Recommended Posts

Don’t know anything about jay halsey and the racing RC10 but he was obviously a good racer back in the day🤷‍♂️ but it looks like team associated are bringing out a special edition with his name on it!

Jay put the Rc10 on the map.  That body is icnoc and many of us have used it for our RC10s.  Not much difference for this release other than a black shock tower and black wheels.  AE couldve done more, Jay's race cr for sure had ball bearings and turnbuckels, they missed the opportunity.   NOw if AE pre-painted that body that would be a win! If you didnt get the 40th this is a good thing.

I think if you listen to the video they do give the impression that the body is pre-painted?

Now that I see the box I want one lol. Good job by AE on the reres this year. And a great idea for a special/tribute edition using production parts already produced from the 40th, everyone wins.

And I for one would be happy to have a prepainted body for this if that were true, Ive lost my patience in my old age for painting bodies lol

If that body is prepainfed I'm in! I went to the site and it did not detail either way. I'll have to watch the video

The price appears to align with the 40th, 10T and DS re-re's and none of them included a painted body so I'm guessing this one comes clear as well.

Would be nice to build the car to completion without all the paint related hassles.

I have four new RC's assembled but each of them require paint and I'm just not up for it right now.

Just putting it out there! Decal sheet like Kyosho did with the optima pro 🤷‍♂️ because it’s only a basic three colour stripe with blue background!

For the first time in my life I was ahead of the game with my 40th Anni build :D

Team Associated Rc10 40th Anniversary.

I might try an pick up a pair of 'correct'  front wheels and tyres though.

Will there be a rere of the original at a price that isn't limited release money? I'd like an early RC10 but have no interest in the special editions!

I second that. The front rims on the "real" one hurt my eyes. Yours are so much better:)

I'm totally with you on this.  I missed out on the RC10 Classic back when they were dirt cheap, tbh I think AE burnt their fingers with that release and they were out of the re-re game for a while, now they're back and going crazy with these limited releases which is all well and good but IMO it isn't helping the vintage scene, it's just giving more opportunity for people with spare cash to accumulate.

If this was going to be a general high-volume release then I'd be all over it, I really want an early RC10 for racing but I'm sure this will be another low-volume high-ticket release, that's a lot of money to spend just to abuse something on the track, and I don't know what the parts support will be like.

People don't buy these to run, these are fun builds for middle-aged men with memories and money to spare.

Fair play to Associated for offering such a wide variety of vintage kits. If they sell well, who can blame them?

Kyosho did a more dedicated replica with their '87 Worlds winner IMHO. However, if Associated did a legit replica of their "stealthy" '89 Worlds winner, that would be something awesome to see (if not highly unlikely).

I had a set of those Pro-Line front wheels and tires that I got in a big lot years ago. Sold them for a pretty penny to someone building a Jay tribute. Glad I sold them when I did...

Parts needed to complete as listed by AE include paints, looks like the body isn't prepainted.

It was more the Worlds re-re that didn’t go to well for AE, the original classic sold well which prompted them to do the 94 worlds. That kit had QC issues and ended up being sold really cheap (wish I bought a couple at that point).

That's probably true, although I remember my LHS had a Classic in stock for a long time for a knock-down price, I didn't buy it because it was before the explosion of vintage racing and I was a Tamiya-obsessed basher.  Also I'd briefly owned a vintage gold pan that I traded on here, but had so much trouble tracking down the parts I needed to restore it that I eventually gave up and sold it on.

I love that they're doing these special editions but I don't love the price, and I fear that this huge flood of special edition re-res is going to kill the market.  Even those with plenty of disposable will have to think about where they're keeping all these boxes when they rush to buy 2 or 3 of every limited-release kit, and in these times almost nobody has a cast-iron financial future.

I think we're in the same boat here. We have the money to buy one, but don't have the connection to these limited editions and just want run to run rather than pay a premiun for a limited edition. We also want spares. My first Ae car is the B6D, I wasn't aware of the worlds back in the 80s, for me the Top Force was amazing, but now I appreciate the history and would like to run in vintage races

I asked this question in the 40th thread and really didn't get an answer.  Alot of talk and concern in regards to if there will be spares. Why? AE has stated that they will support with spares, and although not as nice looking as Tamiya parts (in my opinion) AEs Nylon parts are very strong.  Ive got a team car I drive at my track while the Durga and TRF511 batteries charge.  I can't get through a pack with out hitting something.  The Team car's 35 year old parts have held up just fine. Nothing has broke yet.  I've driven the 40th a few times, same out come, some marks on the body, no broken parts. Sure ease in replacement transmission parts would be nice, but the likely hood of needing some immediately are slim, you can find them online. I just checked AEs sites and there are spares, arms, trans cases, wing and nose tubes so far.   So again why the big concern with spares? What am I missing?

They actually have a lot of parts for the RC10 classic and T on the site. Arms, hubs, screw sets, and the stealth! I couldn't find the idler gears all the 6 gear guys need though.  Well done AE, well done!

They posted that you just have to paint it blue, and all other detail is handled on the sticker sheet - so that's a relief.
