I mostly lurk, but I just wanted to thank you for all the effort. SO SO SO satisfying to read through with all the images. Thanks again!

Thank you so much. That a really great comment to read, and makes all the effort doing threads like these worthwhile. More coming soon. I'm just in the process of converting my XV-02 in to an XV-02RS. Then I'll carry on with this XM--01.

How good would it be to wander around an Art Gallery admiring and immersing oneself into these masterpieces hanging on the wall.

Top notch thread Mr @toyolien 😎 Makes me want to pull my XM apart and build it properly now 😂

I have to say (again, again) that I really enjoy your build threads, @toyolien. So much to look at, so many small things in there in your well organized garage. :)

Thank you for making this build report. Whenever I get to building mine it will be mostly stock (center diff) but also in the "low" version.

As Tamiyastef said. Both the thread about the Optima Mid and the XV-02 are very inspirational fir me.  Actually I am reading the XV-02 thread for the 3rd time now.

Thank you Sir. What a great idea. A 10th scale RC gallery. I may have to work on that in the future. I've almost run our of wall space in the scale garage.

Thank you for your kind words. It's so great that people enjoy reading through my build thread. I enjoy looking back at them from time to time to see how/what I used in various builds.

You're most welcome. It looks like it's going to be a really fun car to run. Looking forward to seeing your build too.

Thank you @Andreas W The Mid has been shelved for the winter. It'll be out again when I race it at the Modelsport 50th Anniversary Vintage event in February 2025. The XV-02 however, will be run all winter (when it's dry). Thanks for the nice comment.

A little later than I intended, but I've finally managed to get the dampers built.

Section 39 & 48 (the other steps refer to the different wheelbases).

All the damper parts laid out. The only change here are the titanium coated shafts. But, for some reason I don't have a pic of the part number, but it's #53850,

Starting off with 3 hole pistons as per the manual.

I couldn't quite get my head around this step in the manual. It asks you to remove the limiting spacers out of the dampers when you are running the car in the lower ride height setting. I would have thought the dampers would be longer in the higher setting, but I did this step anyway.

54130818238_1594ccbe5d_b.jpg

One of my favourite Tamiya tools.

54130880669_98f8bb6ec6_b.jpg

Kit springs and yellow oil for now.

54130817948_59291a9c36_b.jpg

Step 49 to 55. The electrics.

54130992770_bff4423cd9_b.jpg

54130992725_0f4603468e_b.jpg

I've got a Savox 1251 servo that I can use in here. The lead needs to be quite long (as in the XV-02).

54130524916_5aa625fd03_b.jpg

The receiver goes in the bottom of the chassis, then a plate screws over the top top mount the esc on. It seemed a little high so I made my own to lower it. It's only about 8mm lower but it all helps.

Hobbywing XR10 Justock ESC is my go to. I don't think I'll need the fan, so I've removed it.

That's where I'm up to for now. I was hoping to finish the electrics today, but instead my wife and I took our daughters to the cinema to watch the new Paddington Bear movie, so the XM-01 will have to wait until another day.

Very neat mate👍🏻

And the damper holder does look dead handy

Wonderful. I especially like your homemade ESC plate. What material did you use?

Thank you. Not sure if Tamiya make the damper holder any longer.

Thanks. It's just some 2mm black styrene.

Back on the XM-01 this morning. The receiver and esc are now in. It's a tight space but they fit really nicely.

I found this little thingy whilst browsing on RCMart. It's obviously not needed, but it does neaten up the motor wires.

54159086832_e7189c589a_b.jpg

54160411645_9fce2c2bd4_b.jpg

I also added these. I usually like to use Tamiya option parts, but as they seem a little slow with parts for the XM-01, I went with Yeah Racing on this occasion.

54160266414_47dc746357_b.jpg

All done. This battery looks massive in this little chassis, but it's not very heavy so I'm going to go with it.

54159086762_c05aa6a79e_b.jpg

54160266409_bc06dc5390_b.jpg

Step 56 & 57. The wheels, tires and stabiliser mount.

54160411575_4ecd563f60_b.jpg

For now I'm using some 'hard' compound radial tires.

54159960546_5a57cf986b_b.jpg

54160232053_1d310b06c9_b.jpg

54160232048_d3d24f2897_b.jpg

The rear hubs use a standard 1050 bearing, but as I'm using double cardan shafts in the front, they require these 3mm wide 1050 bearings.

54159960541_4c79f116c3_b.jpg

And, the last option part on this build (I think).

54160266229_15c148e8fe_b.jpg

Finally, a roller.

54159960461_fa3cba1090_b.jpg

54159086577_fd8a1abaa8_b.jpg

The last step in this section calls for the stabiliser bar mounts to be fitted. I can only assume that there will be a stabiliser kit coming at some point.

54160231938_ca8e06a9b6_b.jpg

That'll do for today. Next up will be the body. But the weather has taken a turn for the worse, so that may be a while yet.

A really tasty and inspiring build. Curious to see which body you'll put on top of it.

I have 3 bodies up for paint myself, but that will gonna have to wait for spring to come. I am not doing the mistake I did with the Escort MK2,  where I stressed and did it in too cold weather and ended up starting over again from the middle and down.

@toyolien That looks fabulous. Especially with the orange wheels

Thank you. Really looking forward to driving this. I really enjoyed my M-07, but a pair of front tires per battery pack wasn't funny...

Thanks very much. I toyed with so many body options including the HPI BMW 2002 and Datsun. But, in the end I've gone with a boring Yaris. Still to decide on the paint job...
