Today, while browsing RC sites, I noticed that the CC-01 seems to be on the way out. Of course it is a chassis from long ago (and it can still be found in shops) but it should go out with a last special edition. Or did I miss something and is Tamiya still producing this chassis?

I thought it is out a long time ago? I missed out on the Hilux Extra Cab a few years ago and now have to fly out to HK to get one.

I'm sure Tamiya will keep it around in some form or another for a bit longer. There are a few models left, but it is amazing how long Tamiya kept the CC01/XC going despite it's almost 31 year old design.

It is also still an appropriate chassis for many modern SUVs with its solid axle rear and IFS, so we may even see a new body or two for it at some point.

As much as I think the CC02 is a pretty good attempt at being what it is, I still think it's a crying shame we didn't get an updated CC01 instead.  I love the CC01 (I probably have more of them than any other chassis) but it's so flawed out of the box, it's surprising Tamiya have been able to sell it for so long.  It will be a terrible shame when it's gone for good, but I'd really love to see a new version with better steering and a rear axle that doesn't need to be shimmed.

I honestly expected the CC-02 to be just that - an all-new chassis and drivetrain but carrying on with the same design philosophy as the CC-01 - tub chassis with scale details, independent front, solid rear - just better steering and less baked-in problems.

I still think there's a market for that - or at least there was; now it would be in direct competition with the CC-02.

A bit true. They could have made some small changes for modern times, like a CC01.5, but did not. Really, Tamiya could have just added a plastic shim in the kit for the rear ring gear and that would only add a few cents to cost probably. The chassis only accepts oval pack batteries, maybe update the chassis mold so hard case LiPo's can be used. One big of the biggest issues that stand out is the kit included tires, Tamiya really needs to get with the times on that one, because those tires just awful compared to what you get from the other guys.

I do love the CC01, lol I bought two. I know it's limitations and it's potential. Let's just say my CC01 Bronco has surprised an Axial SCX10 owner or a few. 😁
