Firstly, this is my first post. ( I’m not really that new to the hobby though.)

I am currently working on my vintage wild one ( servicing, putting bearings in etc.) and after putting the rear axles back in I noticed that the rubber boots and the hex shafts keep slipping out on one side.

I’ve read that it’s a common problem with this kit and a few others sharing similar/the same components but I cannot find any info regarding fixing it.

Also, are the re release dog bone style shafts compatible with the vintage kit?

Has anyone got any ideas/tips for solving the issue?

Put an O-ring or a spring in the drive cups to reduce the side to side float of the axle shafts but not bottom out in the cups, then zip tie the boots on

I'm not 100% sure, it has been years since I've worked on one, but I would assume maybe.

Also, welcome to TC.

Aha, thanks for the reply! :D I’ll take a look tomorrow and see if I have the parts.

And thanks for the welcome!

When I had my Frog, the old hex axles were actually more reliable than the re-re dogbones. Just zip tied the boots in the right spot and add o-rings in the cups.

If you want to upgrade, go straight to a set of universals from "Xtra Speed" or spend a little more for Tamiyas universal set.
