RC10 Team Car

Recommended Posts

I was at the SEMA show in Las Vegas today. Saw the rerelease RC10 Team Car. The guy from Associated was really cool and let me pick it up and take off the body. Long arms, universals and Stealth trans. Available in a few months.

Great to see!  Nice to see the hard anodized shocks make a reappearance too.  Did he give any indication if this was the end of the buggy rerelease program?  Would love to see them do a black chassis or just a black noseplate to pair with a DS or 10T chassis.

More to come. It was interesting talking to the rep at the show, I definitely got a sense that Associated has some real enthusiasts working there. He had an original RC10 back in the day and said he’s getting a Team Car himself when they become available.

Ok. Now we're talking. I didn't need/want the clear nonsense, 1 of 5,000 or 8,000 "limited" releases or the green goblin.

Yeah, exactly. The rep said it will be a regular release, not limited.

Green goblin! 🤣

Sorry green goblin.

I'm not an RC10 Expert, but as far as i know the Team Car has not a gold pan.
Should feature a black chassis, right? Maybe this is due to showing only a prototype at SEMA:unsure:

You’re right, the 1990 Team Car did have a black finished aluminum tub chassis. I didn’t ask the rep about that at the SEMA show yesterday. The prototype did have a matte finish gold tub, not smooth and shiny like the 40th anniversary.

The 10T and DS re-releases included black anno chassis tub, motor plate and front suspension plate and while the tub and motor plate are universal (fit T, DS and buggy), the suspension plates were specific to those models.  So far, AE seems reluctant to give us a black anno suspension plate for the buggy.

Maybe all of this will be corrected before "Team Car" production roll-out.  If not, I'm slightly disappointed but plan to buy the car anyway.

If they don’t do a black chassis release, Fan RC offers a black nose plate separately.  It isn’t stamped with the logo but I  have a set of their team shocks and they are very color accurate to the original team shocks so probably matches the black tub well.

That's good, did he say how much? Will it have bearings or more bushings?

I'd like to see AE offer their newer rear motor "RB10" buggy with a retro body on it. Something a little bit cheaper but with classic looks.

He didn’t mention bearings or price. Sorry, as soon as I got back to the hotel I was kicking myself for forgetting to ask about bearings!

The Team Car was originally a gold pan chassis. It was basically all the improvements of the original RC10, long arm suspension, longer front shocks, and 3 gear stealth transmission all in one box. The black chassis RC10 would be the "Worlds" edition, which was the end of the RC10 line before the B2 came out.

I'm sorry to nit-pick, but I respectfully disagree. I have both the tub and graphite version in my collection. The Team Car had a black tub.. I believe it was the first AE buggy to get the black tub.

The Championship Edition, which came out the same year, retained the gold tub. IIRC, the Team car reused the CE box photo but just "colored" the tub black in the photo.

Maybe true then. I actually had an original Team kit, my kit was a gold pan. The black chassis was from the RC10T truck, and was an option part from what I remember. I honestly do not remember seeing  black pan Team kits at the track.

Examine the photos closely and you can see flanged bearings in the front wheel.  I hope that's not a pre-production prototype error.

As for the retro RB10, that's an interesting ideal.  It would be in a class with Genova, Dirt Master, BBX and similar more modern buggies.

Are you listening, AE??  :)

I thought the team car was black only too, but seeing how AE started doing balck arms, and white arms and mixed black and white hubs maybe it was whatever was in inventory when they shipped it out?  Unlike the worlds chassis the the only difference between the team car black and gold color would be the color.

I believe you are correct about that.

Especially as Team Car production was winding down, they probably included in the kits whatever they had at the time.  Since TC and late CE anno parts are functionally equal (both included a Stealth trans), AE might have done a substitution to fill orders.  An original vintage gold Team Car would make a nice addition to the collection.

I have a late RC10T that came with T2 suspension parts.   No notice, change to boxart or instructions.  AE would have been transitioning to T2 at that time so I guess they made the swap because T2 parts were available.

Here's a pic of the photo adjusted box with the colored black tub and shocks. The second pic has the mention of the black tub. However, like others have said, Associated often made running changes while in production so anything's possible. My CE is a late Stealth trans "zebra" version with white/black suspension parts. They kept next to zero records in those days as they were too busy fulfilling orders. I'm not sure if Cliff Lett was even able to put a number on how many RC10s were made.

Hi Idaho!

Good to see more locals on the site haha.

I think that while this kit is probably more alike a Championship Edition car, (Saito2 thanks for the reminder and the correction) I still do think this is a cool release and it might be the "Team car" needed for people to use in vintage racing.

I also think this release may get me to finally finish this build that I have had shelved for a long time. Ironically its so similar to this release, so I can tell my self, I need to get this vintage one DONE so i can buy the release to build and run without feeling guilty at all hahah

A stamp drilled for stealth, I can hear the purists crying haha. Also interesting the re release comes with the smaller 1.9 buggy wheels. While its period correct it doesnt help the cars in tire selection. Id rather see it come with 2.2 wheels. I wonder if the rear axles are 3/16th or 1/4?

Also @Idaho should have also asked when they are making GT's again? Thats what I am really holding out for and want to come out the most so I know there is an almost 0% chance it will happen

I have a chance to get an original, RC10 TQ,

It's not a gold pan, has the flat graphite chassis. I searched it and it says associated made the TQ just for horizon hobbies to sell.. I guess it's just an RC 10 graphite with a different shaped chassis.

Why do companies do this?

I dunno ..it's never been run and has an unpainted body 500 dollars
