Ozzmosis 0 Posted November 12 Hello! I've got an old Hotshot that I would like to rebuild. It's in rough shape as I was your typical stupid teenager back when I bought it new in the 80's. I think it is a Mk2. Does anyone have a list of the most common parts that wear out? Sadly I'm going to need quite a bit I think. I have not disassembled the car yet, but one thing for sure is that I will need a new chassis as I cut the top to make room for an ESC. I had upgraded the front and rear shocks to You-G, as well as some fiberglass plates and other stuff. I had started searching for parts a couple months ago, but sadly I did not write anything down. I have checked e-bay for chassis parts, but can only find the new ones with the access hatch. In regards to the rebuild, should I try to bring it back to original condition, or just get a re-re chassis, and try to rebuild the You-G suspension? I would appreciate thoughts, ideas, etc! Thanks! I thought the vintage MK2 Hotshots had the hatch like the Hotshot II, the earlier Hotshots had no hatch(correct me please). You said the car is in rough shape, so if you go down the more expensive restoration path to bring it back to original or a prestine period correct example, you may not want to have the car as a runner. Of course this depends on the current condition and cost. You need to go over the car and catalog what it needs, then determine if it's worth yor time and money to restore to original/period correct or just have an old runner. Saito2 7678 Posted November 13 The original Hotshots (all variants) and Super Shots were all produced without the access hatch. The hatch first appeared in the Hotshot 2 and was used in all subsequent re-release models based on the Hotshot (HS, SHS, HS2). It is up to you if you wish to restore the car to original or to the modified version you had back in the day. The You-G stuff makes for neat period hop-ups. I'd make it a shelf queen either way except for the most gentle of runs if need be. Get a re-release with nice fresh plastics if you feel the desire to run it with any aggression without guilt or worry. 2
