I was quite nervous about this next part as i needed to lay a self levelling compound to encase the underfloor heating cables.

I watched a few tutorials on youtube and set my stall out!

Nedded to make sure I had the correct SLC for underfloor heating and also the correct flooring.

first job was to seal the floor with a mix of craft glue and water to stop the water being drawn into the floor (even though its water resistant it still recommends doing this)

Next up was mixing and pouring the compound - i went for the 2 bags a time method - 1 bucket for each bag - you have to be quite precise with the water and get it poured quite quickly as i went for the quick setting option just to add a bit more stress.

Wasn't too bad and went down quite well until some of the cables for the heating started to pop up through the complound where i hadn't taped them down enough - hence why you can see the roller resting across the room till it set enough to hold them down.

Other than that, i got it all done in a few hours one night after work and was set hard the following morning - it says you can walk on it after 2 hrs but there was no rush.

Next part was really easy and was done in a morning - helped by the fact that it was a clean flat surface and almost square.

Painted the walls in a nice grey and set about laying the vinyl floor planks.

Click together with the underlay already fitted to the plank and easy to score and snap (like cutting out a bodyset!!).

Got the heating on too, to get the room warmed up and dry out any residual moisture in the structure.

I see the room is not equal on all ends, if look at the flooring and how it has been cut in the corner. Was this on purpose?

Yes, the fence/ boundary of my property where in the way 😄I wanted to maximise the space I had at the side of the house that was just wasted space.

Looking good, look forward to seeing the pics of it all set up :-)

I fancy a set of those hex lights to upgrade my garage as opposed to the crappy tube that's in there now.

its coming along nicely and I cant wait to start moving actual Tamiya stuff in there!!

The lights were pretty cheap, about £120 from ebay and they are great :-)

got a big delivery from Ikea so now to deploy my excellent knowledge of building kits.

If you can build a TC-01 then Ikea cabinets are simple !! :-)

Also the blind arrived too so put that up.

As you can see in the corner of the last picture, I have been building my racking which will house boxes of spare parts/ hop ups that I have collected over the decades.

These parts range from the very early Tamiya F1 cars up to stuff from teh 90's and everything inbetween - there is a small 'smattering' of modern stuff in there too but only for Chassis's that particularly caught my eye.

Got a great deal from a company called Rapid Racking but the only problem is they were blue so needed to sand them down and paint them to match the colour scheme (if you can class grey and white a color scheme!!).

Now, I didnt paint all of them as when they are full of boxes, you wont see the blue bits that I didnt paint :-).

Getting to the end of the furniture building now and finished off the final cabinet that will make the other side of the 'desk' area for when I work from home/ or buying more RC related stuff :D

fitted a 'tool wall' to house the 'needed all the time' tools and also for spare parts that fall into that catagory too.

Mounted a bookcase on the wall (sideways) that will house 'Special' cars - I can fit 8 in there plus a few more on the top too.

Painted and screwed a piece of wood to the wall for it to sit on and then fixed it to that and the wall - the wood will also serve a double purpose as I bought some long screw in L Shaped hooks to house spare parts and also some traditional screw-in hooks that will go underneath to hang things on like a Dremmel, heat gun etc.

Need to order the worktops and get the skirting boards done and then the inside is ready to start moving stuff in :-)

Was supposed to be doing the exterior cladding at the weekend but rain and wind stopped play on that, which will now have to wait till next weekend.

Hmm...  I suspect a roller was used... does that count as going 'brushless'? :D

Still, it was a 'kit' you had to assemble & paint, and included blue bits you can't see.  Classic Tamiya!! :) I love it.

OK, bit of break from posting updates but some serious progress has been made.

Built the cabinet that will make up the other end of the desk area and also mounted an Ikea Billy bookcase on its side to house some of my favourite cars (I am sure these will be on rotation as I have a lot of favourites)

Mounted a sturdy 'rail' to the wall for teh bookcase to sit on and then fixed the bottom into that and the top to the wall with brackets.

Once this is done, it will be ready for the worktops.

Also mounted a tool wall next to the bench area for tools and spares that will be in regular demand.

Worktops arrived so time to get busy :D

I went for solid Beech worktops - I know a bit 'fancy' for a hobby room, but wanted a nice place to spend time in and soemthng that will look and feel premium.

Really happy with how they look.

New the next part was very time consuming although a very important process - oiling the worktops!!!

They need to have a minimum of 4 coats with ideally 24 hrs and a light sanding between each coat.

After reading lots of 'how to's' I went for a premuim Danish Oil in a natural colour as I didnt want to change the colour, just bring out the natural wood finish.

I did have a little helper that has been involved throughout the build process - she thought the correct PPE for the job was a witches costume!!

Beech is a great material for workbenches, solid and stable. Having a place that looks feels great is good for your wellbeing.

Love it :)

Thanks and Yes, its nice and flat and solid too so should be a great surface for builds.

I wanted it to be a nice place to be in, hence the underfloor heating, nice lighting and premium materials, My job is pretty full-on so a comfortable place to retreat to will be lovely.

Worktops completed and now time to start the long process of moving all the boxes of spare parts, tools, finished kits for the display, a few kits that will be my first builds in there and lots more associated stuff.

Some of the boxes of spares havent been opened in decades so found some great vintage parts in them and also parts I thought I had lost and re-bought - I know I am not the only person that does this!!!

Getting to feel very real now and something I have wanted since i got serious about the hobby about 25 yrs ago.

Just got the skirting boards to fit now and then the inside is pretty much complete.

Trying to get the whole thing complete before Christmas.

The roof was completed last weekend so now, the only exterior work to be done is to get the cladding on the walls - probably about a good 2 days work but shoudl be able to meet my christmas deadline.

In terms of a first build - NOW WE ARE GETTING TO SOME ACTUAL TAMIYA ACTION - I have been gathering hop ups for 2 cars - both a bit modern for me really but both lool to be interesting builds and quite detailled:

Tamiya TB04 Pro - managed to get a good haul of option parts for this one

Tamiya TC-01- worked my way through the list on the Tamiya USA website (a good resource for seeing whats availabel for a particular chassis) and got every single hop up part available

Also got the new Group C Porsche and dug out some nice option parts and a cockpit

Think those should keep me busy over Christmas

Congrats on this result - it's nice and tidy! I can imagine this definitely adds to the enjoyment of building and maintenance, so cool!

It’s something I have wanted for such a long time, a dedicated space that I can just walk away from when I have had enough and then just come back to everything exactly where I left it 😀

Great room and it'll be really nice to have the really good sized seated work area as well as the standing worktop. @Addicted what have you used there to sit your cars on in the middle row?

Thanks, I wanted both options to mix things up. I ordered a workshop stool that arrived today to cover all options.

They are just cheap white shelf brackets off Amazon. I was going to make something out of wood but thought these would do just fine - which they did.
