Have a read through the draft rules. Not the easiest to read, but it does mention which motor and pinion are allowed.

Hy zusammen,

Maximale Raddrehzahl bei Vollgas ohne Last.

Maximale Raddrehzahl bei Vollgas ohne Last.

Modelle die Leichter sind müssen Ballast verwenden.

3. Free

Who would choose to use a mechanical speed controller?

Wahrscheinlich Niemand,

Es geht um die Festlegung des Mindestgewicht. Genauso wie bei dem NiMh Akku.

Sollte jemand mit dieser Baukasten Kombination MSC/NiMh Teilnehmen wollen hätte er keinen Gewichtsnachteil.

The Ro Mans motor got back in stock on Wednesday and now motor,  motor mount and fan mount is on the way to me. As a tip to others outside Japan thinking about getting these parts: Use the chat function to get in contact. Norisan answers super quick and help you out. A great guy and true enthusiast beeing just as nice as you see them in their videos.

You've gone Scorpion! Tell us more.

Anyone else - I haven't looked into it but would it make a difference to do a combined UK order for a few folk? If so, I'm up for that.

I'm preparing a DT-02 for Mrs. Killajb and just ordered a Pine Beach raceway 380 for it. I love the concept of 380 club racing.  However..  a fair forewarning, the misses drives like I look..

It's the same old Tomahawk I have had since 2021. Later I have fitted Turbo Scorpion front axle and rear axle mount,  so it has TS measures. I have mostly ran Yeah Racing Hackmoto 23t with the timing cranked up almost fully, but now wanted to run a lighter motor in it. Then I hope for less understeer and it would be lightyears ahead of my Grasshornet anyway. It's also cheaper to modify this than getting the Hornet Evo parts I need to build an unbuilt Grasshopper/Hornet I have lying in It's box and also more capable for what I want to use it for.

Today I ordered a Tamiya 380 ST motor. I had to explain to the shopkeeper of my LMS why? It was the first time he had a customer that wanted to downgrade. Of course I told him that you can also see it as an upgrade to a fun class. Well, I am the only one doing this in my region but who knows what comes from this.

This topic has me intrigued so today ive changed over my Scorched DT02 from its 540 Torque Tuned to the 380 left over from my Sandhopper build.

This post is a bit of a rehash of my "What have you done today" post but i figured that information contained might be useful for others digging into this side of things.

Initially i tried using the motor plate out of the Grasshopper kit but found it didnt fit, a few snips with side cutters fixed that:

qWkBhnz.png

But i found that its also too thin for the stock 380, only about half of the pinion contacts the spur gear.
This probably is not an issue if one is running the Sport Tuned 380 as the pinion position on the motor shaft can be adjusted.
But with the fixed pinion on the stock 380 one needs a thicker adapter.

So i remixed a 3d printable DT02/03/Hornet Evo 380 motor adapter, if anyone wants it ive shared it for free here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6902839

It will probably fit multiple gearboxes beyond those used on the DT02, DT03 and Hornet Evo as i made it quite minimalist.

I mounted it using two m3 nuts, two 8mm m3 bolts and the motor to it using the Grasshopper included m2.6x6mm screws.
9 or 10mm m3's will probably be easier to get to grab the threads of the nuts sliding around in the slots, i think there is enough space for them but i had none of those length on hand.

And i also ordered a 380 sport tuned+pinion from Tamico which should be here within a week or two :)

UPDATE: Ive received my ordered sport tuned 380+pinion and fitted it using the grasshopper motor adapter.

Great thread !   For those interested, Pinebeach Raceway motors and merch are all available through rcMart now.

I cannot help thinking how many 380 motors and motor mounts are sitting inside near empty Holiday Buggy / Sand Rover boxes right now.  I think the first thing most of us did was swapped in a 540...

I picked up a 380 motor plate and will get a 380 sport tuned to trial on the MF01x.

I'll be interested to see what happens to the speed, but should allow for something much more balanced and light. As we swap out heavy NiMH batteries for new technologies we are pushing weight closer to the back, so small brushed or brushless motors might help address this too.

A nod to @toyolien and @Andreas W - a video with all Kyosho buggies 380 racing (there's even a electrified Land Jump in there):

Long video (50+ minutes) and the autotranslation gives you a lot of "healthy RC racing" ... so be prepared! :)

Mmmmh. Me like healthy RC driving :D

Something to remember when the wife is away next time. A variation to the Berg Fränky videos I normally watch and fall asleep to after wrench time is over.

Ooh, I'll have a watch of that later. I do like a bit of romantic driving.

Well that wasn't so fun. Tried a bit of light "crawling" over cushions and the motor got super hot. It was a Team Associated 380 motor, so I wonder if it was different specs, but didn't seem to work well. It would cut out far faster than a 540, would under the same load.

I wonder if that's because I'm using for the wrong application? The MF01x is geared quite low so I would have hoped it would have just been a slower, lower powered motor. It would be nice to run a low geared 380 rather than 55T 540 if possible.

I received my first batch of PBRW motors recently, with more due any day now. So far I'm just in planning mode to decide which motor will go in what model, but the plan is to run most of them. I'll post more pics when the second batch arrives, and remove them from the boxes if anyone is interested. I'm also planning to run them in and test for RPM with my Trinity Monster Horsepower Machine for the heck of it.

This just in! Norisan is the best and really took great care of me - I can't thank him enough:

The only thing I have seen/heard somewhere (so take that with a grain of salt) is that the 380ST (if that's what you used) is prone to running hot. Perhaps someone who actually runs one in some other rc car can deny/confirm that.

I wonder if the 380ST would be a good choice for a Grasshopper? If so, one needs to find a 10T pinion for it.

I gave a 380ST in my Grasshornet with a 10t Traxxas steel pinion. Performance is on par with a Silvercan,  but lighter. With a shorty shoved all the way up front it is super nimble (for a Grasshopper). Ihave only ran it in winter temps by now.

Yes sir I will, and I think they are all the same tune but with different labels, wire length options (FAV is long), PRO (no wires) and Left and Right configurations.

I'll spin them up and test for RPMs against stock Tamiya 380 and Sport Tuned, but really for me I wanted the motors in my collection. The boxes can go on display and hopefully I can find a home (model) for all the motors.

Really looking forward to hearing your findings. I have a real desire to get myself a Scorpion and try one of these out.

Yes! I do believe there's a Kyosho Beetle or Scorpion in my future, for the "RO MANS 380S" :D
