WOW thank you so much!! I think that's going to change my 'list' @Kol__. It was too big for my wife to carry up to my room.....

But THANK YOU!!!! 😊

LOL yes they are! There's others.... but these are the ones I'd love to take home. Does that mean I'm feeling better? It does mean I can FEEL again!

To quote my dad (who's no longer with us, so you can absolutely blame him and not me) "you're only as old as the woman you feel!" I know, I know, SORRY 2024!

P.S. I hope we got him the dreaded diff nut?

I haven't decided... too excited still!

And don't you worry.... I'm old fashioned, semi-conservative... I think just like your dad! (RIP)

Ohhhhh...... BALL DIFF! Forgot about that. Well, I'll sort that when I get to it...

😵 post the list of essential TD2 upgrades (with part numbers) please sir. I know next to nothing about that model myself, yet.

Scratching my head a bit. Others may be better placed - I haven't run my TD4 much or my TD2 at all. The diff nut is number 1 and perhaps the only genuine "essential". 22029. Unless you're a gear diff only kinda guy in which case get that instead, but I see no other problem with the ball diff. The slipper is I think a common addition (22031) - subjective - if you want a slipper you want a slipper, I guess. Universals (22028) perhaps? I went for adjustable rear suspension mounts (22038) and the fancy ball fittings (are these 50994?) as well but not essential by any means. I didn't go for any aluminium steering parts but many have. I do have a carbon rear tower but I don't think that's necessary at all. I suspect the metal gear hop ups really make a difference in the TD4 only but there is a metal idler which I don't have. Oh, if it was me then definitely TRF pistons front and drilled blanks rear but that's my CVA choice, not my TD choice, and I don't know which ones/hole size/pattern.

I will have missed things. The TD thread might offer more.

OOOOH!!!! I thought I was stuck with a ball diff! I'm DEFINITELY a gear diff kind of guy.... WHICH gear diff do I need? 😉 Universals are wanted, but can wait.

And I'll have to find that TD thread..... I KNOW they're sorta orphan stepchildren... but I'm excited to put my spin on mine.

What did people not like about them? I think they're cool.... although I never liked the thought of removing half the front end, just to change a battery!!! The TD2 doesn't have that issue. Frankly, I'm happy to have it! THANK YOU Gentlemen and Ladies!! 💓

I think in the main what people don't like is its appearance. Otherwise I'd say nothing major. The gearbox is a bit fiddly to work on and some say the rear hubs are weak. There may be other things I've forgotten - I'm a fan!

It takes a TA06 gear diff, same as quite a few other cars, I think the XV-01, M-08, BBX are all examples.

I've dealt with some fiddly gearboxes... SCX-10III, Blazin Blazer, FF-03, and Tamiya 3 speeds.... I'm good with that. Already looking for upgrades!! Not sure what I think of the body yet, but I actually like the 1950's Indy-type suspension mounted fenders.

As SOON as I saw Ball Diff.... I CRINGED... then immediately started looking for alternatives! Is this what I'm looking for?

8VqRL5X.jpeg

And do I want 50 or 52 tooth gear? It's EXACTLY what I want, a sealed gear diff? Some people don't like Yeah Racing... I put one of these in my M-05, XV-01 and TT-02, and absolutely love them. But then, I haven't raced for a trophy in over 20 years. 😯

....... All I need is 30 bux... or 40 bux if I get it in the US. I still can't believe this kit COMES WITH Bearings AND Hex Hardware! I had to look at the box twice to make sure it was actually a Tamiya kit!!! 🤣😅😂

I can't believe the only 3 things I need to finish this TD2 kit, is that Diff, a short Servo and paint!! Which part WILL be TamiyaClub Forum blue!

I'M EXCITED TO HAVE IT, and can't wait to build it. 😊

I think it's an option. It came up in my search too and is quoted as compatible but I've no experience of it. If you get it you could just line it up against the kit gear to check which size.

I believe the tamiya option is 54471.

On the YR one, they seem to imply you just switch between 50 and 52 tooth gears as a setting, but wouldn't one of them create a less good mesh? It's not like you can just swap in a 2 tooth bigger idler. I don't know on that.

Reminds me - the TDs do have another downside in that I don't think the gearbox is very well sealed by tamiya standards. It's worth a good look at on assembly to see what you can do, unless you'll only run it in clean places. A few grains of sand in mine from only one pack on astro. Maybe solvable by grease on the casing joins in some critical points.

Have I mentioned I live in a DESERT!!? 😮 I've gone the extra step beyond, after making sure the gearbox is dialed in.... I've used RTV Silicone to seal the gearbox. There's even fine silica in the air!

.... according to my odd priorities, a gear diff is a NECESSITY. Not sure I could afford a TA-06 diff.

No such thing as late.... apparently this party is still going, which not only lifts my crushed spirit, but also blows me away, from the staggering generosity and genuine, warm goodwill!

Indeed it has!! Even though I can only read the manual in this white room, hoping to be HOME by late next week.... I believe in my damaged heart, that you're well wishes and great generosity, HAS helped my health!!

I can't WAIT to see what the SECOND package will be. This Old Fart feels like a kid at Christmas for the first time since I was 30! Thank you again! 💓
