58254 1999 Raybrig NSX - Struggling to find

Recommended Posts

IS it me or do these just never come up for sale? All I can find on eBay etc is a couple of listings with the same picture and various prices for what appears to be the same item which puts me off. I accept Im going to pay a fair amount for this but I cant seem to find one?

https://tamiyabase.com/tamiya-models/58254#tech

IS it particularly rare? Ideally Id like a built one in very good to mint condition, but failing that Id accept a NIB. Just cant seem to find one!

Thanks

There are currently 2 listings that I can see on eBay for this model but they are both from the same seller. The different prices could be from different markets (e.g. eBay.com and eBay UK), with different exchange rates and shipping costs for different locations. I have also seen this before with sellers that I know have multiple eBay accounts, listing the same item on more than one of their own accounts. I understand the concern but it might not be anything to worry about (but it could be!). If you pay with Paypal, with a credit card, then you have a couple of protections in place, albeit nothing is ever guaranteed. One issue could simply end up being that there might only be one kit available even though there is more than one listing.

I just bought some expensive Hop-Ups via eBay from Japan, from a less established seller (with a re-used photo) and was a little wary, but everything worked out fine. I'm also looking at a couple of models in Japan with similar listings to the ones you are looking at. Whether I buy will depend on how badly I want the model, how risky the seller looks (feedback etc), and the price.

There's always the chance that something could go wrong. You could wait for one to come up closer to home, but that may never happen and nobody will likely be able to give you any lead on how often they come up. Only you can decide whether it's worth taking the chance to try to get one that might be available, or wait to see if something better comes along.

Do you want the whole kit or would you accept it from parts, e.g., a new unpainted body (this shell was recently re-released), a set of stickers and a chassis from a different car? You might be more likely to find parts to make it than the whole thing if that's acceptable to you.

The green wheels appear to be insanely rare and expensive and I cant find the decals. I did think about doing a tribute on a TT02 ReRe, but to be honest the money isnt the issue its more the finding one. Ive been looking for 18 months now.

Are you looking for the complete kit or just the body?  One of the newest releases, 58739, seems to have that same body shell included.  The body and stickers for 58739 are available as spare parts.

Have you tried the wheels from the DEBIS Merc? Not sure if these are the same but worth a try

That one ebay right now looks pretty darn mint to me. Maybe some rough spots in the body but if it was the one that i was looking for, I would probably grab that one with out hesitation. I bet you could pop the dent in the body with a heat gun. They quit making that kit 20 years ago. More will pop up for sure, but it could be a while before you find one that nice in the box again.

I have the NSX albeit beat up. I also have the DEBIS Nib, I’ll see if I can compare the wheels for you. If that helps? My guess is the green is darker.

Id 100% buy that one if I trusted the seller. Duplicate listings worries me

I dont see multiples of this listings for this item in US Ebay.

Its a wierd export buisness model these "sellers" have going on in asia. They dont actually have the product and are middle people but can usually procure it. I have bought lots of rare parts and kits this way from japan. (Emphasis on Japan) I have never been burned. Sometimes the thing your are buying is already sold but then they give you back your money in a few days. They say something like "the product was lost in the warehouse we are sorry for the inconvenience" but they dont usually burn you. This is a buisness for them. You can look at their reputation if your worried. The other thing is, they probably have no idea what it is they are selling or even what its for. However, if you can find the origional listing on a different site AND you trust the site you could buy it that way that might be better maybe. Most of time you cant find it or arnt allowed buy it. So they are kind of just exporters. That dosnt mean you wont get burned, but i never have.

Note... i found 3 instances of 99 raybrig kits (TA03) being sold on ebay since 2021 so Its hard to get for sure and this price is upper mid range in the history.
