The Woodvale Show (the one in southport) is a one off event every year in August. The RAF stationed there stand down for the short period whilst its on, as it is still operational unfortunately will be virtually impossible to arrange a meet there.

I think people are getting the general idea. I have been to Southport years ago and remember there being an off-road club. If I remember correctly there is a caravan site backed onto a large park where there was or maybe still is a purpose built track and clubhouse. From memory this place would have been ideal but maybe things have changed now.

Keep the suggestions coming[:D]

That track still exists and so does the caravan site, the problem with this track is there is no on road facilities and there is no IC cars allowed, I will look into possibilities of track being hired though see what sort of cost is involved

Lets remember there should be a tarmac and off road track together. I wouldn't want illegal drinking and driving just to drive your rc car off road and then on road. I like Snetterton. Whos up for it again? The terra scorcher is still broke [:(]

A place with on road and off road would be ideal but being without one or another is not the end of the world. Even location with a car park for on-road and a field for camping and off-road would be fine.

If I remember correctly the caravan site is in Southport is of the 'caravan club' kind and that camping in tents is not welcomed. I dont remember any on road facilities at southport but it might still be worth looking at. I also remember a massive flower show being held in the park so maybe the park could be used?

There are a few problems with Southport track.

1. Off road only

2. IC not allowed

3. Camping not allowed next to track unless arranged with council (could be big problem)

4. Only caravans on camping area

5. Track booked for a lot of weekends for club points meetings and brca/magazine meetings

6. Boat club about 100metres away is allocated quite a few 27/40mhz crystals, no way of avoiding this.

7. Use of cars strictly limited to track not allowed to use cars outside of track perimeter

plus points.

1. Said to be one of the best if not the best off road track in britain, some nice jumps [:D](pity the marders not allowed on)

2. Access to kitchen should be possible (cooker, kettle, fridge-good for cold beer, and freezer)

3. I dont have far to come from home[;)]

I personally think this is not a suitable place to hold an event. Will look into availability and cost all the same./

Hi Guys

Just got back from doing the Eurocup round at Ashby in Leicestershire and this might be an ideal venue. The on road circuit is very good with banked corners and elevated sections. There is a large field to camp in and there are banks up to the track with a gravel pitting area that would be great to run the cars on.

This is a very popular club so might be already booked and no doubt it would cost a few quid to hire but in my opinion it has all the right surfaces to run our cars.

This is just an opinion gleaned over my racing here this weekend.

Hi Darren,

That was one of the first places I looked, like a lot of the big venues it is fully booked through till October.

Nice idea though.

Lets try to avoid Ipswich. I think that is how you spell it. I went and watched them race in the STCC and I saw so many broken cars come off of that track. It is very unforgiving. It looks nice and all but I care more about my car/truck than quick drainage.[:P]

Have you raced there? I know how fragile my stuff is and I love to run it but finding spares is another element all on its own. I don't know if they run nitro overthere either though. I wish I could stop crashing[:P]

I've raced at ipswich, the track is very smooth but also tiny. It would be no good for nitro cars and anything more than a stock motor is pretty pointless unless you just want to point a squirt the car around the track. Also there is no offroad track and not enough parking let alone any camping space.

Hi Joshua,

I have emailed two clubs and only got a response off one, who has put it to the committee and will get back in touch. Snetterton seems the best bet! Who was the contact last time?

When I started with the idea of a summer drive I had no thought in my head of it being anything like as big as the one at Snetterton. In fact I was told 'no big meet until september'. From the the way the thread is going it seems that popular opinion dictates that we should have a big meet over the summer of similar nature to the spring drive. I would love that but at the moment we have no venue. Who contacted snetterton before? Would they be up for it again so soon?

Interesting point.

Joshua would your bosses let us use some of their space as a PR exercise, I know some RAF bases do?

Let me know in email.

Thanks

Clive

Also been rereading this topic, has anyone actually contacted Clumber park authority about camping and using a site there?

I work in a small warehouse that is full of aircraft parts. I can get a couple of you guys onto base but it would have to less that 20 people I think. If you live near me, we can play anytime. There is a off road track from what I hear at another RAF base not too far. I hear they race 1/8 scale buggies there. They race Saturdays. [:P]
