Hey Folks,

Some of you might have heard me moaning about the fact that I cant make it to the spring drive. This is because I had a trip to Paris booked long before the conception of a spring meet. Having spoke to a number of guys on here it looks like a summer meet is a certainty but I need a rough Idea of when. I need to know the roughly when the meet is so that my girlfriend and I dont go and book a holiday that clashes with any meeting. I Dont care where it is I will go anywhere in the UK, I dont even need to know the week, even just knowing the month will do!! I know this is early to ask but it will help myself and anyone in the same position!

Me as well [:D]

Plenty of campsites round there!

Good, so thats the first few. Maybe if we can get as many as in November it would be great. I'd be interested in knowing about campsites. Make a whole weekend of it - great!

More people! More people!

This is great! Beer and camping and driving! If we can make a weekend of it then it's not as much of long trip for nothing for me and rossco. Once we know who is up for it then we can set a date. This is still ages away so we have plenty of flexibility.

lol - best of luck guys, guess I'll be swinging buy at some point.

Just a couple of words of caution though...

- Clumber park is a public park that gets very busy in the summer - we got away with it in november cause it was foggy and wet and the weekend drives since then have been small so again 'we got away with it' If the numbers of those attending are the same or more than in November, I think you really should contact the park and see if you can arrange something through them. Otherwise you could find your self trying to reorganise lots of people and cars on the day to a different suitable venue which would be a bit of a nightmare.

I think soniq might already have a contact there.

We would not have another 'Official' club drive there again, without express permission with the park first.

Cheers

Chris

Summer drive update!

Right, it seems like a good idea to take advantage of the buzz following from the spring drive to promote the idea of a summer drive.

After talking to a number of people it seems to be a popular idea to have some kind of camping overnight style meet.

I am under the impression that clumber park is a camping site. Being from Glasgow I am not exactly familiar with the park other than as far as I was there once for the winter drive last year.

If Clumber park is to be the venue then we need to find out how suitable it is for camping and almost certainly make contact with park officials. If anyone is 'in the know' please help.

If we get the okay for the meet we need to decide on a date. Mid summer is fine my me, but any time between the end of May and the beginning of August will do. Obviously we want to get as many people at the meet so individual commitments will be considered as much as possible.

Lets start talking about all matters now. I know we cant just turn up at the park and hope for the best this time. We may have to find an alternative venue. Suggestions are welcome.

So is the meet going to be at clumber park?

Or can we suggest other locations.

Don't know if beaulieu or Crystal Palace areas would be a good place?

Ive had Mini Meets at beaulieu and theve been great.

Not sure if they have a great off-road area with jumps etc , but they do have loads of tarmac?

Just an Idea..

The ideal location would be somewhere in or around the East and West Midlands as thjat would be central for people from Scottish borders and from south coast. Try some of the local car clubs in the area and see if they would loan out their tracks preferably FOC but a small charge wouldn't be too bad.

I like the idea of 'borrowing' some existing race circuit. This is where you guys involved in the Eurocup or any similar series come in. You guys have seen these tracks, know the facilities and possibly know those responsible and most importantly may know if these people might be 'up for it'.

In Scotland we have Stonhaven. That is just south of Aberdeen so not an ideal venue. I know there are many tracks similar in England however I have no experience of them. Anyone who races in the midlands ask your club now.

Guys, come on! Dont moan about driving what you feel is a long distance! It is worth it. I would drive to Beaulieu despite the fact that it is half the length of the country away from me!

Another possible venue would be the airfield outside York where they hold the model aircraft show every year. Can't remember its name though! Perhaps somebody local to York or Hull could remind me! Since submitting my idea about East and West Midlands have had a possibly better idea for a location, that being anywhere down M1 corridor. That is a relatively easy Motorway to travel on. M6 is a nightmare, I lived in the lake district for 8 years before moving to Birmingham and travelling up and down the M6 was annoying to say the least.

Has Bedworth got suitable camping facilities, why not Snetterton again? The possibilities are virtually endless. Who is the member who races at Bedworth?

I presume you mean Elvington, not far from York.

Yes! Well done Rich. I would have thought it was suitable, tarmac and grass. The RAF base at southport would be another good venue. That is used for a model show in July.
