I’m guessing the original thread has fallen over as it’s too big? If so maybe we can start a new one unless the original gets fixed

I’m painting the interior model figure of the Nissan R91CP. As it’s a pretty rare model I feel the weight of doing it justice!

The original thread went funny like this a little while ago and got fixed. I'm sure if we are patient, it will be fixed again this time.

However if it is not, a new thread would be great as it is fun catching up with people's hobby activities via the forum.😀

Original seems to be working again…., Maybe @acprc can merge this one into it, or lock the original so as we don’t end up with 2 threads going.

Happy New Year all

Morning all, old thread locked and linked to this one. The size does and will cause us an issue sooner or later. Jan 1st seems like a good time for Vol 2!

Hey @GToddC5 what tyres are those for your Fauxstute? They look like the impossible to find originals on my Madcap.

I wish! Nope, they are just good 'ol cheap and easy to find at the moment, and I think they look absolutely acceptable for a tribute Fauxstute:

Oh they're stock Egress tyres then?

Yes sir, mounted on an Egress wheel set

Edit to add: I'm thinking about cutting down the tread nibs on the fronts, to better appear like the OG Astute tires.

Cleaned up the Hornet EVO after multiple dirty runs over the past few days.

Ordered a new Hornet body (I'll cut the opening for the EVO rear end without lines) so I can have a painted runner without beating up the more "box art" original one with stickers etc.

Took the dirt oval car off the shelf to prep for racing tomorrow night, although I have been able to come out on top the past couple weeks with close competition.

I had an old killerbody Tipo33 shell that was on a schumacher SST that went long ago, and a TT02 that didn't get much love last year.

Time to crack out the CAD and 3d printer, and 16 hours later, new bodymounts and a set of Tipo 33 style deep dish staggered rims complete the look. Should give me motivation to drive it this year!

Took my TD4 Super Avante out for a New Year's spin. My wife also did a few laps. 😍 Thanks to the long antenna pipe including the black antenna pipe cap (!), communication with Paranoid Perry was always excellent. In my opinion, the TD4 is a good buggy and I think I should drive it on a race track somewhen in 2025.

Painted these wheels in tamiya X-31 titan gold. Then installed them on the 'pig' (MB01)

This was my first RC car, a Marui Galaxy. I'd stripped and given it a basic clean around 6 months ago and was on my todo list over the Christmas break finish it off. I definitely could have restored this to a more pristine condition but I wanted to keep this as original as possible and even decided against finally painting the driver or adding the decals (which to my amazement I still have!). And while I like all my cars to be functional, I doubt I'll ever drive this one again. But thats ok, as the next project on the list is reviving another of these and a hunter version as well, using @silvertriple 's CAD files to replace what I don't have. These cars will definitely be driven :D

I was lucky in that only parts I needed to make it functional were a set of rear tires and the motor mount. Luckily I've been collecting parts since I got back into the hobby in 2011, so I had those on hand. The other part I added was a rear bumper bar, these got smashed pretty quickly, and mine didn't last too long. I printed one in ABS  using @silvertriple 's CAD file (amazing work too, he has done the whole car as well as a few others, fantastic attention to detail and accuracy). I had some printer issues, so its not the best print, I need to tweak my settings again, but I'll do that when I am printing other parts for the next couple of builds.

For me this evening, I finished CAD modelling the TFE chassis and tower sheet parts. They need a test run but I'm pretty sure they're accurate.

TF all parts

You see, something the Top Force seems to have on its side is that it was designed by a sane person who drew straight lines between points, spaced things in units to the nearest 0.5mm minimum, placed holes symetrically left and right of a centre line and filetted corners using largely consistent radii.

The wonderful Avante on the other hand, we know was designed by a crazed lunatic they kept in a basement fed on magic mushrooms and a repeating video of shoals of fish darting hither and thither.

So I think we can safely assume that I won't be back on here tomorrow saying: "For me today, I finished CAD modelling the Avante chassis and tower sheet parts. They need a test run but I'm pretty sure they're accurate."

However, it's a noble aim. Can anyone help me with advice on how I might accurately measure not all that long sweeping curves of large but I suspect not constant radius? And no, hallucinogens are not the answer I'm looking for, thank you very much.

I shall probably start by drawing radii with string and a drawing pin in the hope I can get somewhere near with a simple arc, but not at this hour.

It's been a year since we last drove these. My daughter and I.

Then yesterday, I went on a solo drive with these two. Last time was also in Dec 2023.

Flew this heli for the first time and it was a breeze. Bought this at Super Rajikon in Tokyo last July. Radio configuration was for right hand controls. But the config can be easily switched to left hand by pressing the top right button while turning the TX on.

Great work.  Have you thought about modelling a 2WD version with the front half drilled to suit an Astute front bulkhead and servo position…..  I’m thinking about it a little too much.  🤣

Never crossed my mind but since I have already modelled the Astute chassis a CAD cut 'n' shut would be easy enough.

What would be the rationale for doing this? Why model such a chassis around the TF rear gearbox over others, when it seems known for its crash failures, is restrictive (and maybe weak) on suspension mounting and lacks slipper compatibility?

My current Astute mod plan is to adjust the rear of the chassis to take a BBX gearbox (or maybe something else) with separate suspension mounts but otherwise keep it Astute flavoured.

after my failed attempt to paint a holiday buggy, I decided to try and wrap it in vinyl instead. An initial test was promising, but I wrestled with it most of the day and this is far as I got before I gave up. It's not terrible, but it won't last. the vinyl can't adhere properly, so the edges will slowly let go.

So I decided to leave it plan. I will do some more silly logos for this to finish it off. I also just need to fit the motor and then its good to drive.
