When you're stuck driving around in the snow in single digit temperatures, there are only so many drivers who are up for the task.

I know right.... he hasn't even bothered to put the targa roof back on !    42c recorded here this week, that's 120.2f for our imperial mates. These snow posts from northerners are actually helping to make me feel cooler, keep em coming.

it's about 3deg C here, torrential rain, with reported 60mph winds tonight to look forward to.

Can you rub some sunscreen on my back please?

The Arizona desert isn't doing much better!! ❄️🥶  I've got 2 bodies ready to paint.... but not in this weather!

Here's another for you, @Thommo!  We're used to temps like in the Outback.... in your neck of the woods. 🙄  115 to 122° F in the summer!!  We're not used to this. New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast actually got SNOW yesterday! ❄️😮😮

On a happier note.... me oldest friend just informed me that THIS is my birthday present in March!!!!! 🤗😲😎

To you experienced 3D Printing guys.... am I going to like this? I really don't know anything about 3D Printers, except I wanted one forever.  I  do like that it appears to be "cat proof"!!

Put some new wheels and tires on my cc-02 very happy with them, the look good and there are pretty straight to, al lot of time wheels have a wobble in them even the alloy or metal ones, these ones not.

Finished stickering this beastie, after about 10 hours all in over the last three days

That, finally, completes my TA04-TRF Bits-a-build project which, according to my build thread, I started way back in October 2021 :o

Sitting on my butt annoyed (yet again) with eBay's policy of allowing people to print shipping labels beforehand and then take their time actually delivering said package to the shipping service (UPS in this case) so while a tracking number is 'available' it isn't  actually a tracking number yet. My resin printer died, the replacement part was nearly as expensive a new printer so I replaced the whole thing, and although I don't have anything I need to print in the few days the mere fact that I have a fake tracking number makes all the waiting worse.

I used adhesive tape to close two holes on my XV01 through which stones kept getting in and then blocking the steering. They came in from above but didn't fall out from below because the holes at the bottom are a bit smaller. We'll see if my small intervention helps.

However, I haven't found a solution for the rear yet. Stones sometimes make themselves comfortable between the lower arms and the chassis. This is due to the special geometry of the chassis, which makes it possible to adjust the suspension using a droop screw. Have you got any suggestions or ideas?

@chris.alex.That's a clever solution for keeping stones out. I also have that problem, dispite having done the vertical servo mod (as I know you have done as well). I'll try this out. The nice thing with a frozen surface is that this problem is non existent ^_^

As for the other problem I have not had that yet on any of the XV-01 I have. The first XV-01 has had the chassis grinder out to increase droop by the previous owner. I have droop screws there now. TBH I should have swapped the chassis between the two, so they get the most adequate chassis for their intended use.

I don't know if it would work having not tried it myself, but maybe use some very very soft foam sponge to occupy the gap and stop stones from getting in, but still squishable enough not to interfere with suspension droop?

Thank you very much, that sounds like a good idea. I will try it out soon.

Sponge would also could work instead of tape for the first problem as well. I have a ton of it, si will give it a try.

As a sidenote I have filled up the area around the openings in the XV-02 chassis cover with sponge and it's astonishing how little snow finding the way in after a pack. But I gotta reduce the size of it. The motor gets warmer than expected given the outdoor temps, which is not promising for the warmer months.

Electronics need to be properly arranged and secured, and (at the age of 52) I cut out my first lexan shell (back in the 80s I had a grasshopper, since getting back into RC I’ve had a pumpkin and rere HSii which helped me dodge this for a bit longer).

clearly needs sanding around the edges, and there are a couple of spots that may be goofed up beyond recovery but it went better than I feared.

Am eager to paint, but it’s going to be freezing here a while yet. Any workarounds for spraying in the cold (that don’t involve building a spray booth with ventilation 🤣)?

How does a dirtmaster compare to, say, a TD2 performance wise?

They appear to be of similar build/material quality, so I guess its a case of geometry/design and gearing?

That’s a great question, the answer to which I have no inkling! I thought about both but went for the DM based solely on looks 🙃

I ask, because I am in the middle of a TD2 build! I guess the only way to find out is to buy a Dirtmaster now...

I have had luck painting in my multi purpose workshop in the basement during winter. I have heatet the room with a heater like this.

https://www.biltema.no/hjem/vifter-og-innendors-klima/varmevifter/varmevifte-2000-w-2000054153

This was before the energyprices skyrocketed even here, though. Today with high prices and smart electricity meters you can pinpoint on the bill which hours of a given day you painted.

Nowadays I wait for the spring to come.

Admittedly the word 'cold' doesn't really apply to SoCal 99.9% of the time, but when it's too cool to paint I toss my rattle cans in pot of warm tap water before hand. Of course, I also used my shower as a paint booth in my last apartment so take the wisdom of my advice with a grain of salt...
