So, What Have You Done Today? (Vol 2 2025)

Recommended Posts

It’s been a long week with little modelling, but I’ve managed to make a sizeable dent in the prep of two race bodies for the Tamiya stock class racers.

My bathroom is a spray booth!

I’ve got more to be painted in my own livery when I decide what that is, but like the pros, a single colour shell will do for now. Fantasy sponsors to be added tomorrow courtesy of RDT decal sheets.

A few little projects for me. I ordered a few cheap winches from ali express for my 1/12 vehicles. Not very powerful but should be enough to lift an MF01X. To be honest it will also help with weight at front, especially with a heavy backing plate.

I ordered a cheap TL01 chassis for a new secret project, and took the plunge on some comical / GF02 arms which might go on the TL01 or another MF01x.

I ordered all the individual parts to make a Pumpkin body for a monster truck, only to then find a full set on ebay for less, oh well.

Lastly I tried the wheels that @technics suggested for m tires on my MF01x.

ZFdlq6W.jpeg

72 mm rear vs 82 mm front.

Thoughts on sizes? Think I prefer the look of the rear but front will give much more clearance.

Strictly speaking, not today, yesterday. Maybe f I use time difference and/or the international date line....

Anyhoo, finally got this one done, for my nephew. It took a while to find all the bits to make this thing, it's the WR02 chassis that I found cheap, and somehow found a complete body/decal set for $250 AUD. Considering the available sets for sale at the time were waaaayy higher than that, it was a minor miracle.
With the drift wheels it looks cool, but there is only a couple mm of ground clearance.
Anyway, that's a job on the to do list done.

*eta: Don't look too close at the paint/decals. Some of you are wondering, didn't you mask it? Yes, yes I did, but for whatever reason there was bleeding, lots of it.
If I was to ever opena business painting and decal-ing RC cars, I'd call it 'Good from far RC'....from very far.

I am with you regarding the proportions of the wheels on the rear. But that said the ones in the front are not that off,  so a tough decition.

@Nikko85 - if one is going for the 72 mm all around, I'd say the body needs to come down slightly. The 82 mm ones look better with that body height. But still, tough decision.

That's another factor, I don't think I can drop the body any lower.

I made a bumper for the QD LB.

Found a piece of plastic at work, happened to be the exact grey to match the front bumper.

Cut to size and drilled with a recess cut out for the wheelie bar wheel.

Front.

Rear.

Looks cool with the all black grill and dark grey bumpers.

Torn between adding some livery and keeping plain.

I think this might be one of my favourites.

That looks very impressive. Got any more pics of the bumpers?

Aha - okay, but let us see both variations with front and rear rims/tyres, if you feel like it? Maybe it looks better/different then. Is the overall width the same on both combos?

Finally finished the rebuild of my second Konghead/King Yellow chassis with tracks.

KH_6X6_18.thumb.jpg.be74d101b182dd77f8eb8c2ab745014e.jpg

I still have to find a solution for the half-track front wheels. I already begun to draw a three piece rim that fits the Grasshopper rear tire and the 12mm hex at the portal in CAD. Yet there is still the question about the bodies.

Took our 6 year old to a kids rock crawling event at a (not exactly)LHS. Bought some new brass+alloy beadlock wheels and tires for his Base Camp that utterly transformed it. Same place had a carpet track set up for oval racing and they let the kids run cars on that too. Spent maybe 5 hours there - fun for all. A good day.

While others are swearing the TD4 is over, I believe the platform will continue to exist. I think it's a really good buggy.

My Super Avante was still lacking proper lighting. Up until now, I've always equipped my buggies with homemade LED holders.

I wanted to go the ghetto route again. However, when I was rummaging through my LED box, I came across these old light buckets. They were probably intended for my DT03, which I sold a few years ago.

After a little work, they fit my Super Avante perfectly. I love these moments when parts that have been kept for years finally find their use.

I painted them "silver chrome" inside and now it’s time to do some happy soldering and wiring.

Today I prepped my SWB Optima Mid for next weekends Modelsport 50th Anniversary Vintage National event. Never race indoors before, so should be interesting.

Nice job. Are you joining us in the ERBP challenge? I've ran a Torque tuned in my M-08 and it's done good. Not hot after 30 minutes either.

I am afraid that I have not found good spot to set track and run constantly for 30 minutes. I have one place but it is bit too tight.

I just want to have one car, which is simple and can be run without worries for long time.

I forgot to post this yesterday.  As I had a lazy Sunday morning I had to time to complete my winter project of a Wild Willy 2.  I bought this a little while back for the challenge given all the painting and gluing involved, and it took waaaaaaay more effort that I was expecting.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out, but man, what a fiddly slog it was!!!!!

Never, ever, again......

In the meantime, I have soldered the LEDs and wired them up. I even installed a CH3 switch to satisfy the show-off parts of my personality. B) My TD4 Super Avante is now equipped for the dark season.
