So, What Have You Done Today? (Vol 2 2025)

Recommended Posts

Finished TT-02. I decided to install new ESC and solder wires directly to motor. I also changed shock shafts to Titanium Coated TRF.

Because wires are springs blue/ yellow/ red, I added small yellow stripes on bottom of body to match everything. Red stripes were there already before. It smells bit 90's but I like it.

Happy New Year everyone!

Just renewed my Tamiyaclub subscription.

Perhaps I'll run some cars this year but....we'll see...

Finally finished my Blockhead Wild One.
I love the way it feels; It’s substantial. Haven’t even run it in yet and I already love it! Waiting for some drier terra firma.

edit: aftermarket front, top and rear skid plates. Aftermarket crossbars. Aftermarket fire extinguisher.
My lucky number 2 - Deuces wild. Goes way back to my motocross high school days in Las Vegas circa later 80s.

I believe Watanabe is telling us something. (Image 3) I believe in the same. If you buy a luxury watch, wear it. It’s yours, it was made to wear and use. It was made for you! But I’m not all about greed. I’m about a good time. You can’t take it with you in the end.

Replaced the tub on Ultra Hornet.

20250204_201704

The side tabs on the bumper broke ages ago and it had become an increasing problem. I have had the tub a month or so but only just got round to it. Seems such an effort for an otherwise perfectly functional buggy! Was actually a nice zen hour or so.

I worked on my XV-01 today and changed the stock idler gear to a steel one in the front mostly because I'm still using the stock NN4 parts and decided to change the 540 silver can for an Absima brushless combo (21tooth pinion) and changed the Flysky receiver to a Dumborc one.

20250204_184259.jpeg

I've put the low profile servo in a standing position.

20250204_184254.jpeg

Suspension mount are aluminium now and low friction suspension balls are used. Changed the front driveshafts to universals.

20250204_191429.jpeg

Next up is roughly the same (minus the universals) for the rear.

Today I've been messing with a new bumper mount for my CC02 LC300. I'm planning a front bullbar and needed a way to mount the part to the chassis, so I replaced the factory front bumper with this part that I printed.

It's a 2-piece part so I can remove the front support when I cut the shell for the bullbar, the front part is designed to support the factory bodyshell.

Yummy. These are  nice upgrades for you. I am still on the OE plastic axle mounts, but this is on a future upgrade list. Which motor went in?

I hope you have shims on each side of the OE NN-4 parts. With that you are a long way.

The motor is the Absima brushless eco trust v2 combo. It's a 3421KV motor so more than enough IMO.

I didn't shim the NN4 parts before and they looked perfect, now with the steel idler gear I don't see how anything can move to eat the NN4 part...

Maybe to be sure I should open it up and shim it...?

I have spent most of the afternoon sorting out my ridiculously large pile of parts and spares. I really should sort this mess out and sell everything I don't need to make room and more importantly- funds for more tamiya kits.

Also decided I didn't like the wheel choices on both so I swapped them over. The lunch box is rocking HPi superstar MT wheels & blitzer beetle rear tyres all round with white lettering applied. Monster Beetle is rocking Mad Bull white wheels.

@NUFCRc - the Bug looks cool with those rims - I am a bit oldschool, so prefer these. 12 mm hex in the rear rims? Good call on the Blitza tyres. :)

Yes sir. 12mm hex works spot on at the rear. Fronts not so well sadly.

I would sleep better at night with a shim between the NN-4 and the idler gear to cover up the recess for the BA16 pin. When I fitted these parts on mine I was surprised that the steel idlers was slipping onto the pin just like that. The plastic idler gears had some resistance. Ithen shimmed everything, so I was sure hat nothing moved.

But that's maybe beeing too worried given you have the steel idler gear and the clearance is fine.

Try the 58512 rims for the WR-02 VW van, perhaps? (I guess you have hex up front too?)

Mad bull wheels are bearing front and hex at the back.

These are the ones fitted to monster beetle

Aha - these are same (as far as I can see) as the 58512 ones. I have no idea what to fit, then.

It's me getting things all mixed up - I was actually thinking of the Mighty Bull, not the Mad Bull, when replying. So my reply was a load of Bull, sort of. :D

It's been a nightmare finding wheels that fit and ones I like. Tamiya really should have used hexes instead of the bearings at the front as there would be so much more choice in the wheel department.

I might attempt this mod. This wheel search is rather infuriating. Maybe the super star MT might look better with the right tyre combo.

I was using Super Stars but now I can use cheapo plastic beadlocks.  Its opened up a lot of possibilities.

Alternatively, I recently found Imex has 1150 bearing wheels:  https://www.imexrc.com/collections/2-2-rims
