I was using Super Stars but now I can use cheapo plastic beadlocks.  Its opened up a lot of possibilities.

Alternatively, I recently found Imex has 1150 bearing wheels:  https://www.imexrc.com/collections/2-2-rims

Thanks for this I will have a look maybe I'll see some I like.

would sleep better at night

As sleep is important I decided to get some 4 mm shims at my LHS today

While I was there I picked these up as well

Got the rear idler gear shimmed

And went back to my LHS for these

It's only when you open the stabilizer package and read the manual that it's mentioned you need these as well...

I also did some work on my DB01 today like @Elbowloh :) A while ago I discovered that the front and rear gear diffs had leaked and I started cleaning things up. Also wanted to change the spur and pinion and then discovered that the central shaft of the double slipper clutch was bent :( Not sure how this happened... Barely ran this car. Luckily I had a spare. But then I spent a good 2 hours rebuilding the slipper and researching how to get the spur wobble-free... I found this post from 2013, but still: what a PITA.

If someone found a better way to get the spur on a double slipper clutch wobble-free over the past 12 years, I'm all ears :D

That's good. Now you have a bulletproof XV-01.

PS: I would have loved having a LHS with such parts.

PPS: If you want metal NN4 parts Ican order you that. If I order before Monday I'll have them by Wednesday, I think.

Hey @Tamiyastef I am doing the same thing to mine. I ended up using .2mm on one side of the idler and .3mm on the other for a total of 0.5mm; now feels like it's rattling a lot less from side to side. I don't suppose you know how much shimming you used, off the top of your head? Thanks 👍

Thanks for the offer but not really. Especially now with the shims between the idler and the NN4 parts.

@Pylon80 I used 0.1 at each side just to have something between the plastic NN4 parts and the metal idler gear. I'm not bothered with the (minimal) side to side play.

Thanks, I thought people on TC were experiencing issues with the cross pin jumping out of it's recess inside the idler causing the transmission to slip and destroy the idler. This was ultimately due to the side to side play and only happened with hotter motors as far as I understand. This is the only reason I shimmed it.

Pick up truck on a nikko F10 to make something. Both were going spare.

It's got blackfoot vibes.

Could make a nice little basher, its relative fast with a torque tuned motor and 110 mm wheels.

The body has got a 240mm wheelbase so could also work on an ORV, which could be an option if I find a cheap one.

New handrails on the bed of the Black Ranger…

Black chinesium steel via amazon.  Sanded and painted mica silver (TS76).  Not as shiny as the chrome…

Looks very nice!

Reminds me of my Blackfoot, nicknamed "SubaFord BratFoot" , but your attention to details is on another level!

There was a nice show of static models and their builders/owners close to my house.

Resistance is futile to not pick up a souvenir.

I spent a bit of time in the evening with the Fiat Abarth (1/24 static model) and I get that there are some mad skillz involved in trying to get pieces you barely can see onto this car-thing, which in itself isn't all that big. Super fiddly, but when you happen to actually get something to sit where it is supposed to, oh yeah, man!

And it is a respite from the dongo-ding-crazy outside world, which is even more yes. :)

I have been having so much fun with my TT-02 after swapping the tight diff putty front diff to the rear and the looser rear AW diff to the front. The car just slides so much more predictably at the cost of initial turn in. While the diff putty worked well, it leaves a little to be desired in the sexy arena. It also has a little bit of give to it but the amount it gives is never consistent. Sometimes when trying to move the wheels in opposite directions I can only rotate them less than an 1/8th around and others times it gives a little more than that. Since I decided it's more fun to turn with the throttle than the wheel, I went looking for a more permanent solution without taking away the ability to go back to how it was so I ordered a diff lock block for the stock TT-02 diff. After a quick 30 minutes or so my beloved TT-02R has a new legit locked diff and some ceramic grease all the way around. To test it out I threw on the drift tires and went for a zip around the kitchen. It's so predictable and consistent now. I am using my old "Junkyard Subie" body as an indoor trainer while the new Impreza body I ordered for it comes in.

The TO Eldorado build keeps going, slowly but surely. Chassis is now all done, including after market side bars and wheels/tires. I even had a livingroom test run, and everything was fine (still impressed with how responsive that vintage servo is).

I moved on to work on the body shell. Once filed and washed, he only tricky part to mask was the rear grille: I wanted the spaces in between to be black, for the sake of detail and to enhance the depth of the area. Also, I found just enough room to add my "signature" rear window.

20250121-134425.jpg

While tempted to paint the grille gold, I eventually opted for silver as I think it will look better once the car is all done. Hopefully a good decision, but we'll see.

20250121-161933.jpg

Here is it, the dreaded painting phase finally done (not that easy to sort out when it's -20° C outside, took some thinking ahead). The rear grille had some bleed here and there, but all easily sorted out with the aid of some polycarbonate cleaner.

20250128-111923.jpg

While at it, I started on the driver's body too. Since I decided to ditch the kit's carbon-like decals in favour of some shiny black, it made sense to do it at the same time as the shell.

20250128-112713.jpg

I didn't peel the top film yet, but the end result on the grille is looking goood ✌

20250128-112725.jpg

Can't wait to peel it and enjoy that new shell shine for a minute, before lint and fingerprints inevitably take over as a reminder that life always goes on 😅

At this pont, I picked up the helmet again. After sanding and priming, it was time to paint. I wanted it upside down during curing time, and my old almighty '80s Skeletor was happy to help achieving that.

20250129-223211.jpg

Next was some makeshift decoration, figured out pretty much in the moment.

20250202-125807.jpg

I made it gold and black as the overall theme, but with some red accents added here and there.

20250204-120828.jpg

20250206-003148.jpg

That's as far as I've got. The plan for tomorrow is to peel the shell and get on with the decals, though work might take over as I have a deadline not too far away.

The OCD part of me, albeit demanding, is still happy with the results so far

The Group C bug has bitten, After getting the 956, and being so desperately disappointed that the 787B is seeming like an impossible procurement, I decided to track down a C11. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to arrive. The purchase price was very good, the shipping not so, but the overall cost is about par.

Took my XM01 on a 20 minute trip, on tarmac and then on clay. Driving on the hard clay was particularly fun (forgot to take photos). Seems to be the ideal terrain for the XM01.

For the first time a small problem occurred and that was the rear input shaft was blocked by a small stone, so I had a FWD car for a moment. Note to myself: finally cut out the chassis cover and actually use it.

With similar footprints and layouts, why is the Madcap 110% cooler than the DT02?

Is it because the Madcap has an aluminum motor mount?
