Geez, how much have you bought that the thread couldn’t handle it??

4 little packets of Xtra Speed bits, in all seriousness, does it open for you Ken?

4 hours after arriving in Hong Kong...

rbriYBH.jpg

Collected 5 orders from RCM. Will be going to Tamiya tomorrow morning when I wake up, just across the road from my hotel. 😁

It doesn’t for me either as happens..I guess it’s going the way of the original WHYDT thread.

The main site was throwing its error 500 earlier today as well.

Today I got a little quality time fir myself,  so I built ald mounted the center diff in my XV-02. I also mounted a fan and went down to 28t pinion/FDR 6,5. Also have made 5 stints of postal racing with it. I'll need some time to get used to it. It's less prone to spin when accelerating hard out of a curve. It also has more off power oversteer when entering a corner, like I am used to with the XV-01. But the downside is that it's harder to make consistent long slides now, so you cannot have it all.

Motor temps are in check now. With 29t pinion and loads of foam front and rear it was too hot fir my taste and it would have been no go in summer temps.

I watched the kid build his little Valentine Grasshopper Jr. (Mini 4WD).

Such a sweet thing - with some miniature electronics in there to make it an RC, that would be cool.

Not sure if you already know, but there's actually TWO Tamiya stores in Hong Kong. The first one is the one you went to in Yau Ma Tei. The second is in Central, on Hong Kong Island.

Ive thought the exact same thing but those mini4wds are surprisingly expensive nowdays and i dont like the more commonly available design with their garish colors.

Id get a Terra Scorcher Jr, like i had as a kid, to make it RC, like i wanted as a kid, to complement my rere one :)

As for what im up to:

Tonight im taking apart the chassi that used to be for my Midnight Beetle and hopefully reassembling it with the correct wheelbase to go under a Pumpkin or Lunchbox shell.
Currently im waiting for the two "gearbox mounts" to print.

I converted the CW01 to a modified miniguy71 independent trailing arm rear suspension setup when i was using it for the Midnight Beetle so now im attempting to shorten it back to stock, it will retain the rear trailing arms (and front double wishbones) so i guess its going to be a halfway hacked together modernized CW01.

For those that havnt seen this before: Its grasshopper gearbox converted from solid axle to work with sorta ORV style trailing arms.

I did a few tweak to my WPL C44KM, which is basically the "ultimate", most expensive WPL model of the bunch.

I installed the DF-02 suspension and CVA shocks on my Hotshot.

I also tried the DF-03 suspension, but it was hard to fit the Egress wheels. So, I went with the DF-02.

I'm really happy with how flexible the suspension is 😊

Had to print/fit some modified trailing arms due to the shock mount location causing the spring on the motor side to grind against it and the dogbones being hyperextended/binding with the previous version.

Gonna give this a try, it seems fixed but if not ill print some longer braces to go on the back, tilting the gearbox a little more downwards and decreasing the dogbone angle at rest.

Ive also realized that i had trimmed the sides of the tub just behind the front shock mounts, removing the screw holes for the body post in the process of fitting the scorcher shell.
Back when i made the Midnight Beetle i designed a strut to attach to the tops of the upper shock mounts, bracing them together and holding the front central body post for the scorcher shell, modifying it to extend back a bit and adding lunchbox body posts to it should be pretty easy so on to do that now.

Another batch of car washes to get rid of the drywall dust.  I'll do the same with the buggies sometime next week.

I've had the winter XV-01 and the XV-02 in the setup station. Mostly to make sure they are the same on each side. The XV-01 was OK and it works terrific, so it was left as is. The XV-02 was way off regarding toe out and camber, so I copied the XV-01, just to have a starting point. It cannot be worse at least.

16 euros was okay for one, just to see what it was about. The shipping was another 16 euros, which sort of threw a spanner in the works for any future collection mania. :)

I’m on a bit of a Kyosho binge at the minute. I just got some grip tyres to use on my makeshift track at home. So much fun!

Started off on the crucial graphics phase. Feels good to see the shiny, streak-free surface in the peeled portion of the body 😊20250215-103003.jpg

Son and I had a good old rag about in the wet with Boomerang and BBX. Gotta say, I do like the Boomer very much. He prefers the BBX which I find iffy in the wet. Very understeery til it isn't, and then it really isn't. But then neither has particularly sensible tyres. Got to sort the BBX gearing out. It's slower in top speed terms with its 10.5 turn brushless than the Boomer is with a Superstock.

And then we found out what the ridiculous cooker is really for:

I took this yellow pick up body off of my Stampede and threw it onto my Rustler, I wanted to go for a "low rider" or hot rod look.

I'm still waiting to see somebody run an aftermarket body on one of the new "Groms" or the Mini Maxx!

After seeing the full 53 minutes of Kyosho Scorpion chassis racing with 380 motors the other day I took my Tomahawk apart and rebuilt the diff and gearbox. I have until now used grease in the diff,  but now have oil in it. I first had 3000 oil in it,  but changed for 1000 in the end. The diff is smooth,  but goes a bit heavier around than what I am used to, so felt better with 1000 oil. It's gonna be driven by a 380, so not much torque to handle anyway. I want it to corner smoothly, so the diff needs to be more open than it used to be.

After loads of turning and  a night with the cover facing down it’s still not leaking,  so looks promising.
