So, What Have You Done Today? (Vol 2 2025)

Recommended Posts

When I wanted to install the recently purchased aluminum propeller shaft in my MF01X, I found other spare parts and hop-ups. And so a 5-minute job turned into a renovation that took several evenings.

Before renovation:

What I have done: homemade front upper arms, adjustable rear upper arms, hop-up propeller shaft de-anodized, black M05 suspension parts, steel suspension shafts, motor case de-anodized, new kingpins and ball heads, new servo saver, re-organised the wires.

Many years ago a friend gave me these steering hop-up parts. I finally installed them, tested them - and then took them out again. I don't understand their purpose and they don't look elegant.

Tried these braided cable sleeves for the first time. I'm not convinced yet. What du you think about it? On the other hand removing the anodizing was - once again - great fun. I like the motor much better in its natural silver than in red.

I like the MF01X chassis. For a while it was my most driven street car. Maybe it will have a renaissance this year, even though my XM01 now represents strong competition from a higher league.

That got me really confused, until I realised that GH probably stands for Grand Hauler, not Grasshopper. :D

After months of cold and damp weather, today it seemed like a spring day nice temp and not damp, so it was a good day to paint some bodies, with a lot of on going projects I needed to paint bodies to finish them.

Flake with ps8 green on the squash van body, flake with ps33 cherry red on the td2 body that is for my td4, and ps 23 gun metal on the body for my wild one.

Love the smell of PS paint in the morning. Played around with some mix and match to see what happened.

Flouro red backed with bright red, gold or orange came out real nice 😁

Currently on cyclone watch here at the moment, so anymore spraying (or most RC activities) are out the window for at least a week I’d say unfortunately.

I got back from my cruise today, and spent a couple of hours in the shed this afternoon putting up shelving. My plan was to finish off the tiny amount left to do to finalise recreating the decals for a Kyosho Porsche Superten, so instead after doing the shelves I cleaned the Lancer Evo shell and Audi BTCC shell. Whomever had it before me had fitted the mirror, roof scoop and rear spoiler from the Mitsubishi to the Audi. It's a shame they have to make big holes in the body. Once clean I took some hi res photos of the stickers on the body and with a copy from Tamiyabase I'll be able to recreate the sticker sheet for the Lancer.

Both bodies came up pretty well. The only issue with the Audi is the two new holes in the boot and two on the roof. I'll have to get creative on how to cover them up. The Lancer shell has the beginnings of a crack at the top of the front wheel arches, so they'll need reinforcing. At some point I'll mask and give both a quick spray on the inside with the respective colours to tidy up any areas that have been rubbed off. Chassis will need a quick tear down and clean at some point, but really it's just dusty. The shocks are pretty shocking though, they compress but don't come back.

Hummmm 🤔, other than a spoiler maybe fill the holes and cover the boot lid with some stick on carbon fibre, and bonnet to match?

I like the carbon fibre idea!

I've painted a Tamiya R34 Skyline body and matched it with some HPI Volks TE37 wheels. It's just plonked on a TT02 chassis to see what it looks like. I've not put together a Tamiya kit for many years but it was quite therapeutic. It's got light buckets in the shell so I might add LED's at some point.

Why is there a blue Monster Beetle body in my fridge?

cake mb

Actually I had a birthday Thursday and this is the beginning of the cake my wife was creating for me. Who knows? With prices of bodies and paint nowadays, maybe baked goods might make good replacements. Tastier at least. Lexan always cuts my mouth when I chew it and polystyrene just lacks flavor.

Tamiya Junkies track meet. Absolutely belting conditions and the outdoor track was running amazingly well. Some new faces with some beautiful buggies too. Hadn't seen a Madcap in decades and there were two today!

I ran everything I own, but some of the less recently used had weird radio and esc issues. I thought my radio might be on the way out, but my more regularly run cars ran perfectly. Do esc's go out of calibration if left? Was a bit weird!

Anyway, most of my cars were delightful. Tired but happy, which is nice.

Hehe. This is like you are reading my thoughts. Less than 30 minutes ago I was searching to see if I have misses that you have started a build thread about it. Glad to see it's going forward.

Thanks. I've got the pics for the build thread but haven't got round to starting it yet. Will do either later today or tomorrow. I'll see how time goes.

We had some record breaking snow falls during the last couple weeks, in the country and even more so in the city (which is still very much stuck). I've been less present on the forum 'cause I was too busy driving the cars in all the whiteness. As a result, now I'm stuck with way too much footage and pictures to choose from, sorry in advance but I'm afraid I'm going to flood the picture only thread 😁

I only ran the Manta Ray and the Terra Scorcher, mostly the Manta which saw quite some air time. Fresh snow makes for good cushioning, so I built some ramps to really let it fly. Almost Traxxxas bro style, but with no harm for the cars. The Manta took the brunt and performed flawlessly, only thing the gears are getting loud again. Oh well, these lasted a few years at least, and I have two sets of all-plastic touring gears coming in the mail soon.

I didn't manage to capture any of the highest jumps (best to concentrate on the driving), but this is how a safe landing looks 😄20250209-154353.jpg

The hole behind the wing is just my own footprint. Needless to say, there will be more in the pictures only gallery.

Today I finished wrapping the gold perimeter on the TO body. SO glad to finally call this phase done. I know I said that doing the wheels has been a labour of love, but it pales in comparison to this. It really took all of my patience, and I would not want to know how many hours it took me. Doesn't matter anyway, I think it turned out great and I am very happy with it.

And now on to the next, very specific challenge: trying not to overdo the stickers... there's plenty of candidates from two different decal sheets, but clearly with this livery less is more. In any case, the frustrating part is all done and the rest will be just good fun 😊

My autojumble bargain M-01 has been reduced to a bowl of parts.

2025-02-24_12-06-47

Significantly, they are all mostly black parts. The garish red and yellow paint is almost gone, following a couple of days soaking in denatured alcohol. The last few specks should come off soon, then it can go back together.

My word that is some truly spectacular pin-striping 😎 I have a beer (or 2) chilling in the fridge for when the finished article is revealed 👍🏻.

I feel as though there is going to be a bit of a RbP Mini shoot out  in the not to distant future 😁
