Tyres turned up today, so got them fitted to the custom wheels I made for the TD4. (Yes I'm a super Advan fan)

I'll be interested to see how well the paint holds up on them.

Beautiful! I think your wheels fit the Super Avante perfectly. :)

When did we stop accepting this as the standard kit packaging on an RC? It amazes me each time. Its beautiful!

Fast forward to today and even some premium kits have the parts thrown in :/

Been distracted by bicycle projects for a bit, but luckily enough just as I was finishing the last bit my snazzy new Black Clod arrived, so I get to have that 'New Kit Smile' on my face for a few more days :)

Guess what that is?

You saw that right, a leaking differential in a TT02. I've had enough of it, so I've now installed a ball diff.

While I was at it, I swapped the blue chassis for a black one. I prepared all the holes with a thread former. I also added one or two shims, and I largely dispensed with greasing.

Last but not least, I did something for the looks and installed a small carbon part that covers the front part of the chassis.

Is that a wooden battery bar?

Browsed the Internet and found a NIB Falcon from 1986, completely sealed in plastic. 800 dollars.

Although I do like a falcon and remember them from my childhood, I wouldn't pay that much for it, I'm sure it is worth that tho.

Curious, would anyone here pay that much for a brand new, sealed, Falcon?

To not lose 3-5 days with another color sequence of paint, I just wrapped the cage in oracal vinyl, red's a pita anyway. 30 min FTW..  Now to heavy clear then spray the silver.  Went with 845 so the #45 BBX will be son of FB.  Need to get runners running.

Stole an old Rob Mitchell to stand in for Tony. Good nuff.  Gave him a fresh fake logo to match.

Finished painting the driver's face for my TO. I wanted to do a darker skin tone for a change, but this guy's facial features are quite on the opposite side of the spectrum for that, it would probably look weird, so it will have to be for next time.

I tried to go for a spirited look as by tradition 😄

Good enough.

I also added the visor, it was a lot of fun doing that. It's functional, it goes up and down like the real thing

Too tired now, but next I'll connect the head to the body, and the driver will be done.

Made some wide 1.5” front wheels for the Black Ranger…

Front inner piece, with an unmodified rear face cover, and a modified rear back cover.  I enlarged the hole to fit around the bearing holder with a set of needle files.

Test fitting a tire so only 3 screws.  Seems to be OK.  I don’t know if I would do any hard-core driving with these but they will look nice on a Shelfer or slow street Runner.

I want to try this with 1.7” Rough Rider wheels but I need to order the parts…

Hello All,

I tried to get some measures and do some prints on my 3D printer. Well there's a quote about printers in general being "sons of (you know what I mean!)", and 3D printers are no exception. When you think you got it figured out and you gained some trust in the process ... you will get stabbed in the back like Caesar in the ides of March! Nothing else happened to me. A spool with filament, which is not too old, made some trouble. Two times the extruder was not able to get it through. So I switched to a brand new spool and finally I got some testprints.

We all know the front of the Wild Willy 2:

WILD_WILLY_01_2000.jpg.98e0de32dea0ca1185633a03075552a6.jpg

To be honest I was never happy with the grille that looked a bit like the Ford M151 MUTT.

First attempt after some measuring is the general way back to the old Wild Willy grille:

WILD_WILLY_02_1980.jpg.9593afbf32ff585bfc4bbcb443a44505.jpg

This looks much better for me, but why don't go a step further?:

WILD_WILLY_03_CJ2A.jpg.f9d80e38e6f2eb7bf4c344d01d2c0c06.jpg

Now it looks like a CJ-2A, the number of slots is correct and the shape of the hood matches it quite well.

But my personal favourite is still the wartime Willys MB / Ford GPW.

WILD_WILLY_04_WILLYS.jpg.a8c03d707f3df63ba4da245aa77d76df.jpg

There will have to be several modifications to be made, to get that grille on the body, but I like it the most. Even though it's a bit of cheating, since the bonnet is higher than on a Willys MB. BTW I skipped the strange hinges that are molded to the original grille. A real Jeep doesn't have them and it gives me more freedom for the print bed orientation when I am adding the mounting tabs at the back of the grille. The actual prints were only tests and to get the measurements and proportions right. There is a lot that can be done here. I also skipped the mounting holes for the winch momentarily, since it often was a reason for broken grilles.

Well yesterday was dirt oval race day......won one class and blew up my diff in my Street Stock class where I usually sit in 3rd place in a very competitive class.  I can't complain, been pushing a decent amount of power through the TLR ball diff since the season started in November........it was about time for a rebuild......

Hopefully the rest of my ball bearings show up for he DT-04 build so I can get that ready to race in the silver can off road class on Sunday along with my 4wd....and maybe 17.5 2wd but 3 classes is a lot of coordination......

Looks great, Caesar! ;) Possibly something for you @Gebbly and your SAS jeep project?

I like all of your variations for various reasons. I am trying to figure out a way to fit some cartoony headlights to mine (whenever I get to open my box and open the doors to Jimbears' WR-02 Garage). Not sure where to start, though.

This is my favourite kind of build here. Completely unique, but looks like something that really should be in Tamiya's line up!

I think at that price point the seller is holding out for the “rosebud” buyer

If I knew a couple years ago what I know now about piecemealing together that particular ******* and then trying to find a box and manual as well, I'd absolutely have been better off spending 800 for NIB <_<

It has definitely made me price up those scenarios first - lesson learned.

Looking better each time. Do you have alternative tires or only the "full wets"? 🤪 BTW they're missing the blue ring. 😄

Thanks for the heads up @JimBear, this does look like excellent work by @urban warrior. I would be really interested to see where this ends up. In my research it looks like a lot of the LRDG (Long Range Desert Group) Willys jeeps would have several of the rungs of the grill cut out to maximise air cooling of the engine. Then they often attached a water condensor invented by LRDG officer Ralph Bagnold to the grills to help preserve water, both modifications can be seen here. I have yet to figure out how to make or attach condensor. Maybe enlist the help of a mate with a 3D printer.

Added some stickers. A very challenging sticket set for me, and its far far from perfect. Ill be the first to admit Im not great at this sort of thing. But this is probably my favourite Touring car now. Proper Gran Turismo!

Im looking at widening the stance somehow too.

With some R34s. The real versions of these wouldve had some great battles back in the day (and on 13 year old me’s Playstation!)

Phase one, 'El Stocko Jocko' nearly complete. A couple minor durability mods, and my custom receiver tray, but basically keeping it dead stock for baseline comparisons for now. Just waiting on a stout servo and a receiver.

When Gran Turismo was released in 97 or 98, I remember I was the only one amongst my Frenchy friends knowing some cars in the game. Thanks to Tamiya RC Guide Books that I was drooling over... The game had plenty of Japanese cars, and for sure the Guide-books also.
The barely known in Europe R32 Nismo Clarion was my favorite On-Road car at the time :)

Love your JDM collection, by the way. Great stuff

Thank you, but I believe that there are people here on the board with more skills than me. 😄 I just did what I have learned in the past.

Anyone who likes the Willys Jeep should know the SAS-Jeeps with the cut out grilles and the condenser. And anything is possible in 3D CAD, it's just the question how to print. But all that shouldn't be too hard.

Be my guest! What kind of Jeep-project are you working at? Chassis type, scale?

If anyone feels I am derailing here please let me know and I can move to a PM or a separate thread or something. But to answer @urban warrior's question my current thinking is I would like to make a Willys jeep along the lines of the SAS in the desert during the second world war.

I'm thinking to use a MF-01X in its smallest possible layout as done by @JennyMo in one of their builds. I got a MF-01X "kit in a bag" from LandL for £87. I have purchased all of the body part sprues that would be used in a Wild Willy 2 kit as a basis for the bodywork.

I found a couple of 3D printed SAS desert rat figures (I cant remember where from) that I think are about the right scale (unfortunately they are only from the waist up so I need to figure out an alternative lower half to graft on to them). I'm thinking I can use the Wild Willy 2 gas cans as a template to try and produce several more jerry cans. Something like your front grill, and then figure out the condensor, I have a friend who is always looking for things to print on his 3D printer. I am flirting with the idea of using TL01 arms just to get a slightly more stable track as was done by @Nikko85 in one of their really nice builds but it depends on how that ends up making it look.

At the moment I am still very much at the stage of piecing the ideas together and gathering potential parts.
