Going through a bit of a busy stage of my life right now, and the way my mind if I have something hobby related to do and I dont do it I get really down and stressed about it, which defeats the point of a hobby. I also end up buying more and more which makes the problem even worse. I adore the hobby, I adore RCs and I will get more. But for now Ive put them all up in the loft. Ill sort it properly with racking etc.

Thats just the touring cars not the NIBs or off road stuff. Its great seeing them laid out like that. Makes me very proud as sad as it sounds. Ill get more bits done and update when I get a spare hour etc but for now

Got more MIP tools to grow my stash of them.

They are "gen 2" now, new and improved, just when I got all the previous ones last year. Now my collection will be half originally nals and half Gen-2 versions.

Apparently Gen 2 versions have etched sizes on the shaft, angled edges on nut drivers and black oxide coatings.

I was busy with the assembly of the CR-01 axles, when I heard a strange grinding noise when "test rotating" diff housing and bevel gear. After a quick look I found this:

CR-01_BEVEL.jpg.bb422ccc2fd92a39421d0d4ff810f07b.jpg

On the left side you can see that the bevel gear has a casting failure. That's a bummer. I will go and contact the seller. Bad thing is, that this part is not available as a single spare part, only as a complete differential set. And actually the "usual suspects" don't have it on stock. I will have to see what the seller is telling me. But for now it's a show stopper.

Or does anyone of you know any alternative I could use here?

Do you have some parts number? Isn't Modellbau-Seidel detailing these? (Tamiya 51326 ?)

You could maybe put the shaft in a drill (or a lathe if you have), and try to correct the wrong (external I guess) diameter. Then, with a fine file & if the teeth are wrong also (doesn't seem on the picture), try to correct the defects.

It's the BA23. I already looked it up at Seidel and TAMICO and it's only available as a complete set but currently out of stock.

Actually, I don't have access to my lathe. I can try an cordless drill. But first I am going to wait what the seller is telling me, before I'm messing up the part. 😬

Reasonable choice. Not sure you can really hurt the part more than it is already, though. And if you remove some 0.5mm from the bigger diameter of the bevel pinion, unless you use some brushless/lipo crazy power, it should work nice.

Today I prepared a Heavy Sand Truck :)
Hopefully it should get on the beach this summer.

Today I went to a fairly new sports field with a friend from our RC club. We set up a nice course with marker cones and did a few practice laps in the sunshine and icy wind. I brought my XV02 (Alfa Romeo), TT02SR (Peugeot 406) and XM01 (NSU Prinz TT). The XM01 was a bit slow on the m-chassis wheels, so I'm going to replace the 20t pinion with a 22t one.

Ouch! I thought it was a NIB kit? You could buy the 9400853 bag ... but that's a "bit" on the expensive side. :D

Perhaps this? -> https://www.modellmarkt24.ch/pi/Ferngesteuertes-Auto/Ersatzteile-RC-Cars/Ersatzteile-Tamiya/TAMIYA-51326-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-40-Bevel-Gear.html?waehrung=eur&kat_aktiv=34323&kat_last=34323

I've never used the above company and perhaps not a good idea - just trying to help out a bit.

Thank you very much for your input. Yes it's a NIB kit. But production failures appear, with Tamiya rarely but not impossible. Yes the bag is around 100€

I tried to look up the part somewhere else and your link has been on my "radar" too. Unfortunately it is located in Switzerland, what means some tariffs when it is shipped to Germany. Anyway, thank you for looking!

Man, I love these tires! It's a pity, that they're out of production.

+1 on cleaning up the flash on the outside edge with a dremel or file or something.

Its hard to tell from the pictures but the gear teeth do look ok.

Didnt really do a whole lot of rc stuff today,  besides breaking in a new motor. A lot of tanks just letting the motor set in at a low rpm. I think it got enough oil through it :D

Yes, I was guessing there was a snag in there ... let's hope it all works out fine in the end! I'll keep an eye out and see if I can come up with something else. :)

Quick middle aged newb question re. plastic part repairs. Is Araldite epoxy glue all good on Tamiya chassis parts? I rolled the DT-02 yest, snapping the screw housing atop the rear upright. A bit gutted as it was a very tame roll haha. Antway, removed the upright, superglued it back together, redrilled and refitted the screw and ball end then roughly fashioned a gusset of sorts around the repair (per photo). Seems to be solid as now, but before I touch it up with a file, sandpaper and some X18 black paint, I’m thinking of smoothing over the repair with 150kg Araldite to give it a bit more grunt. If the repair holds I might similarly gusset the other side (and order a couple of spare B part trees) as it’s a definite weak point in the design.

@Thunder downunder. My brother broke a shock tower within the first week on his new Grasshopper 2 back then when crashing into the stairs outside in winter temps. A new tub was no option on paperboy salary, so it was glued with Araldite (blue) with a large overlapping over and under on both sides. Not pretty, but to this day he has still not changed the tub.

Probably it is more "Bad Luck" than weak part. I never had an issues, despite quite hard life of my DT-02/03.

Be aware of one thing: if you make this part super strong, it is possible that you will break something else, because force will be focused on other point.

Upright parts are really cheap ( 3 Euros?).

Awesome good to hear. Araldite over top of repair which should do the job. I’m a builder so very used to doing functional running repairs on my gear. Building and maintaining an RC is great fun - only took me 40 years after seeing a hornet and not being able to afford it, to dive in and build a few vehicles. Next fun challenge is hopping up my 11yr old daughter’s TT-02 AMG with her.

Cheers mate. Yea figured just bad luck how it tumbled over on top of a small branch without much force. Will see how repair holds up - gave it a quick sand and coat of araldite. Buying a couple b tree spares as it’s shaping  up to be an awesome  runner albeit slightly older model now.

Yesterday I went to the club. Unfortunately the spurs I ordered won't fit the RC12 so I only drove the XV01. I had built some new super mini CVA's (with TRF O-rings and pistons) because the mini ones where a bit too long and I had almost no course. Now it's better on this side but after I replaced the old tires that where totally worn out (the heavy front isn't nice on them even if I swap them every time), I couldn't get the handling to my taste.
The next riding session I'll be able to go to will be on a big outdoor track (more suited for 1/8 and 1/5 cars), I hope I'll be able to find a nice set-up there...

Hey, you can still fond those tires, they're "Option N°1" IIRC. ( https://www.ebay.fr/itm/226075562129 )
Good quality, a bit expensive, but when I purchased them last time, I made an offer because I bought 2 pairs (a few € only) and it was accepted.

Good evening!

And good news. The vendor is very acommodating and already reached out to Carson to get a replacement for my mis-casted bevel gear. In the meantime I proceeded with the chassis:

CR_01_06.thumb.jpg.1e5626935f461b42d7f9417414ff817f.jpg

Actually this seems to be the most sophisticated and complicated chassis in this scale I have build so far. I have the impression that it is "located between" the TLT-1 and TXT-1 chassis'.

CR_01_07.thumb.jpg.7e956cf6eb4fc2d9a167d42bc0cd93b8.jpg

But I will "stay the course" and finish the chassis build. Actually I am not sure which body to use. Should I go with the UNIMOG? If so, I need to change the tires to something more "MOG":

UNIMOG_TIRES_800.thumb.jpg.7ac807241ec37b33662f01a08c144907.jpg

These for example ... Anyway the original wheels and tires have to go.

Put some hop ups on my TA04, carbon bits, sway bars, trf shocks, motor mount, center one way. Possibly other things, already forgot what was all changed , took the whole thing apart and have a pile of diffs and diff parts left over so might have a one way in the front too, was building a second from parts while upgrading this one, and upgrading the second one as well because I can’t seem to just leave anything alone :D

About 3 days ago... I went to the beach, suppose to take my DT-03 out, but the sand were too deep and the DT-03 is just high-center the entire time. So I took the big dog out instead. And my "big dog" met the real friendly dog.

With electronics and red alloy wheel nuts installed, I am ready to call my TD2 finished.

After that relatively easy introduction to the platform, it is time to start my TD4!
