Painted more wheels…

Dymond Racing wheels, painted (2) coats of gloss aluminum (ts17) and (1) coat mica silver (ts76).  Generic ebay chinese slick tires.

Also painted some AJ’s #0194 and #0195 (1.5” front wheel and 1.7” rear wheel) the same color.  Not sure what tires I will fit.  Thinking Sand Blasters…

The BT-01 chassis is a work in progress. Still need to solder the ESC to the motor (25.5 HobbyWing FTM). I'm actually intrigued at how easy it is to maintain the BT-01 chassis. Getting to the gearbox/differential is much easier than the TT-02, where I don't have to lift up the suspension system, because the access points are from the front and back.

Yup, I am surprised the BT's and MB's aren't more popular yet. My MB in FF is such a wonderful driving car and as you pointed out, is super easy to build work on. I did a three month tear down on mine last night and front diff regrease, Four screws to access the diff for the win. Two more takes the transmission out. Two more a you are inside the gear box of two gears. Having such easy access to the diff makes me want to experiment much more which is awesome because I already have a couple diffs set up differently pulled from my TT02 I can just throw in to test. The full size servo sits upright so getting to the servo horn is right there where as the TT02 requires me to take the servo out. The thing also drives sublimely. I don't race but if I did I would grab it first over my old M08 simply because I know it would get around the track without a marshal. I have been having so much fun with my MB that I would not hesitate to pick up a BT when it's time. I can just picture a BT FF Civic hatch zipping around.

Tamiya being Tamiya. Over their history, they've done an outstanding job of designing and making parts as well as chassis to "future proof" themselves. So many parts are common across multiple chassis. The MB-01 shares some of the same parts as the BT-01. The TT-02 gear (or even oil) differentials can be easily inserted into the BT-01. One can assemble multiple oil diffs of varying viscocities and experiment on the BT-01. The design from a maintenance standpoint is an improvement over the TT-01, because the differentials won't fall out when you take off the gear covers. Perhaps (wishful thinking) this design will make it to the fabled "TT-03", if and when that ever happens.

I took my workench "out of duty" for some days. I put some linseed oil on and that has "to set" for some days (I guess). Just to prevent any incidents with water in the future:

To be honest, there would be far more to do. I planned somekind of a rack/shelf contruction on top of the workbench to put all of my feedstock in. And I need more options to get the periodically or more continously used tools on the walls (apart from that sad arrangement of tools visible).

@urban warrior - perhaps just painting it would be better, since the linseed oil doesn't protect much against water.

Oddly enough more than ten years ago I prepared some of my cutting boards (kitchen) with that oil and they hold up to this day pretty nice. Even though they got rinsed periodically. I've seen the same boards not prepared in any manner, warping and getting apart in less than three years. I'll just give it a try and I am not planning to drown my workbench. 😂

Looking good!

May I ask what measurements are the wheels and tires?

Thanks,

You know when you get a message -

"Do you still play with RC cars?, my neighbour is letting his late son's RC cars go, and wants them to goto a good home and not just sell on"

Of course, and what are they?

(Thinking they're Tandy ones, maybe a Hornet..)

Wow!

Chatted to the guy for hours, me and his son would have got on great, RC cars, and built his own project car too!!

They're getting gentle restorations (bearings and new elecs) and enjoying them again with my kids, plus they'll be getting run as 'have a go cars' for the clubs open / fun days.

Tamiya Junkies track meet. Only a handful of us today, but more and more racers seem to be turning up on our days. They were friendly enough, but the outdoor track was very busy with extremely fast cars, which isn't that conducive to the relaxed, have a go atmosphere I enjoy about the meets. Only me and another guy and his lad chanced our arms outside, and whilst there was no issues, I can't say I am a fan of this development.

Anyhow, moan over, the outdoor astro has been reconfigured again and (ironically given the above) is fabulous for old boats having a go. Long back straight into long flowing corner then really tight and technical layout with no big run ups to jumps, so was great for slowish cars on Tamiya tyres. Meant the speed differential to the fast stuff was less too because a tidily driven Tamiya with a sport tuned can drive the infield pretty quickly. Was a bit out of sorts myself today, so only ran this morning, but that was enough to get Ultra Hornet, Ultra G and Daffy through a few good long stints, then I ran down my other battery in the BBX, which was utterly delightful. Looked so, so great out there. And actually, being on stock tyres on such a grippy surface made it a bit more mellow than the others on more astro appropriate rubber.

Anyway, pics (Wild One, Frog and Bigwig are other members cars)

Ive been real quiet lately RC wise. Was supposed to be getting a new roof and velux windows on the house, so my RC stuff could live in the loft. The roof has been delayed for now but my RC stuff needed a home so Ive made a start

I've got some 3D printed parts to replace the hardware in the back of the picture for mounting the front dampers on my Grasshopper EVO.

20250518_213149.jpeg

It's just the top of the damper cap en they accept one of these. I never realised they came in different lengths.

20250518_212248.jpeg

Just the top because although the .stl file was for the whole damper cap my neighbour couldn't get the printed screwthread going on an actual damper body. So i glued the top to the flattened top of the damper cap.

Looking good IMO but a testdrive will have to wait, maybe this weekend.

Took my newly finished BBX for its maiden run today. Has a HW EZRUN 4100kv, with the only hop-ups currently being a slipper and the rear shock top bar. Oh and the CC-02 wheels, which I thought suited the livery better than the chromes.

Decided it'd be a good idea to mow a little track into the grass, which the cars definitely appreciated compared to how long it had gotten.

Also took the super avante out to see if my JB Weld rear upright fix would hold. I managed nearly a whole battery before it let go again. Time to replace it properly methinks.

Good to know my 3D printed wheels can take a beating though.

Compared to the TD4, the BBX feels a lot lazier, but that also makes it pretty easy to drive. Quite a bit slower round Veg Patch GP circuit though. Next step, figuring out how to dial out some understeer.

Did some painting for the Blackfoot Xtreme project, then took out and ran the Wild Bigfoot Dagger while paint was drying.

I'm glad I built that truck, it just looks so cool driving around and rides like a Cadillac over rough terrain(rough terrain not shown in photos).

Ok, it was yesterday, but... I ran my "new" TT-02 from topic below:

I am really happy with result. It is much better than my previous versions of TT-02.

IMG-20250519-090939.jpg

I have to admit one thing: after more than 2 years, I realised that I just do not understand how suspension adjustments affect car handling. I started to be bit lost, because my cars started to be worse than better. My previous TT-02 was awful, really.

In that case, I decided to build High Spec TT-02 but only with adjustable toe. Shocks are in quite standard configuration. I am really happy with how car handles. Now I think it is good starting point, to make small adjustments and learn how Toe and Ride Height affect handling. Step by step.

I also have XV-01. It is great car to run, but being honest, I have no idea where to start with adjustments to achieve result I expect. Probably I should come back to manual settings and start again.

Short version: I built cars with adjustability like a F1 car, but my experience is around running shopping cart.

Played around with this a bit more, I will swap out the shocks for alloy ones next. Happy with how it sits for now.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered a Flysky transmitter and receiver. Plus a couple of Hobbywing 1060 ESCs. Planning on having the Lunchbox and possibly the Monster Beetle running in time for the East Anglian Scale Trail.

This was Saturday morning. I've been staring at my freshly built Turbo Optima for a while, and I felt a sudden urge to make those wheels spin, see it come to life.

I tried to do so in a way that wouldn't conflict with my decision to keep this car 100% scratchless and impeccable (for the time being, at least).

This translated into a morning of tight livingroom/corridor action, featuring powesides, small makeshift jumps and the inevitable close calls with the furniture.

Who would have thought, I actually had fun even in this overly contained environment. The buggy's handling feels impeccable and it certainly begs for a proper playground, but for now this compromise will have to do so that the car can stay pristine.

Well, a bit of a 3 fail's initially today.

Fail 1,    Although not RC related it was on the way to a favourite beach run spot, (Doctor's Pathology near there) that I discover the Pathologist has left & not been replaced. So much for getting that done in a nice quiet out of town venue.

So off to the beach anyway for the BBX's pre-run photo shoot, & then exhaust the charged LiPo to reward the long walk carrying all the gear, Daughters camera, water, car etc.

Fail 2,    Get all set up, BBX in shot, press the shutter button........nothing......in that instant I realised I'd forgotten to install my RC SD card in said camera 🙄.......... nuts.

So photos using my phone it was to be.

Photo shoot over, insert battery, enjoy.  Briefly.  I usually test run a car before hand to check, but hadn't this time.

Fail 3,

IMG_0497.jpeg

Turns out the trusty silicon I use to adhere tyres to rims isn't so trusty anymore. It's the second time its happened even though much older tyres are still stuck fast 🤷🏼‍♂️

Bad luck normally comes in 3's, so plan B was put into play.....

Thankfully all was well from then on 😎
