The W. Schrott Racer is now moving under 380 Healthy Racing Dad power (I had a spare 7 channel receiver for the Carson TX, totally overkill for a GHII but you run whatcha got).

The big brain melt was spending an hour and a bit trying to figure out why exactly nothing (and that's a whole nothing, friends!) works ... tried 4 different esc, several batteries, other batteries in the TX and I was almost off to buy new stuff and throw the Carson in the bin, when I happen to look at the ESC and notice that hmm... the channels are reversed - 7 on top and 1 on the bottom. :D

And then while powersliding over the kitchen floor, I managed to fail again (better) ... I hit the dog water bowl, turning the whole thing into watersports ...

You see - "Dads go wild" when nobody is at home. 🐹

I bought this little scale Bonsai tree kit a year ago from Plaza Japan. Decided to build and paint it this afternoon. It's new home will be in my scale garage, which is becoming more and more Japanese themed!

Speaking of small things happening: not acorns, but body clips.

I really enjoy the Grasshopper II (to my surprise), but I am not a fan of having to get the clips out from the battery lid. Even the small Tamiya clips are a bit too big and I need to use a tool to get them out easily. I was trying to come up with some Clever Engineering to get rid of the nuisance until it struck me ... the Axial ones for the SCX24, with the little flap thingy?

Ran off to do a test, and yes, very nice - works a treat. It's the AXI206000, should of you three who actually run a GHII, need them.

Took my newly finished BBX for its maiden run today. Has a HW EZRUN 4100kv, with the only hop-ups currently being a slipper and the rear shock top bar. Oh and the CC-02 wheels, which I thought suited the livery better than the chromes.

Decided it'd be a good idea to mow a little track into the grass, which the cars definitely appreciated compared to how long it had gotten.

Also took the super avante out to see if my JB Weld rear upright fix would hold. I managed nearly a whole battery before it let go again. Time to replace it properly methinks.

Good to know my 3D printed wheels can take a beating though.

Compared to the TD4, the BBX feels a lot lazier, but that also makes it pretty easy to drive. Quite a bit slower round Veg Patch GP circuit though. Next step, figuring out how to dial out some understeer.

Tamiya uprights... Last one I fixed pretty quickly. Superglued back together and bolstered both ends of the join with a bit more material from the same parts tree, filed it into an acceptable shape and coated the repair in 150kg araldite which cures nice and clear. Dunno if that might help?

That's a good shout using extra sprue to reinforce it. I think one of the reasons the JB weld failed is it's too hard & brittle. I'm not sure what the 150kg Araldite is like, but the regular stuff might have the same issue when the part flexes, and the epoxy doesn't.

I'll give friction welding with a dremel a try, and be back with results. It's a shame there's no easy way to make sprue goo for nylon parts.

But getting the shot exactly where the tire flies off was pretty lucky! Epic photo.

Like @chris.alex I did some soldering. I didn't do as nice a job as he did and I wished I thought of the 3.5 connectors but I didn't. I just extended the wire and soldered on bullet connectors. I was using one of those shotgun style LiPo batteries that worked well but the new square pack has 1300 more mh's and since it's heavier, it balances the chassis than the 5000 pack.

Thank’s mate. It was more luck than judgement. I used to do Burst mode on an iPhone, but a while back they changed from holding down the shutter button, to hold down and swipe across a bit that was really awkward one handed while driving. So now I just take short vids and extract stills from there.

Incidentally today I finished uploading the BBX adding more pics in my Showroom on the main site as after writing it out & one pic I got the ‘500 error’ yesterday.

So after having a bit of a barrel roll at full chat from a hidden bump on a gravel road (mistakes were made), and attempting to fix it with JB weld previously, I decided to have one last go at repairing the TD4 upright.

20250504_202359.thumb.JPG.6a5e0e455519db61b25bd9ae9490191d.JPG

I tried friction welding with a dremel and bit of sprue. This has worked well for me on 3D prints before (ASA mainly), but I think due to the glass fibre acting as an abrasive, it removed more of the upright than it added sprue material. Plan B was the ol' solder station with a tip I didn't mind ruining.

20250521_210636.thumb.JPG.781879b9dc3c2b211ec0997a99b7b57d.JPG20250521_215904.thumb.JPG.900aece9dc09541bd8cc4a3ac0222997.JPG

So after melting about 40mm of sprue onto it, it's not pretty, but it looks a lot beefier than standard. If you ever try this, wear a VOC mask or use a fume extractor.

Back together and ready for another rip. It feels sturdy enough, but time will tell.

Looking at the original part with its obvious stress points, I'm tempted to model a reinforced version in fusion and see how well the SLS printer at work can print it.

Badlands + bad weather = Red carpet for ye olde Big Boss

The following one wasn't placed on purpose, it's just where the truck landed after an ambitious jump... almost all the way into the pond! Look how high the water is by the wheels 😅

Another great run, at an enjoyable slower pace.

Cheers bud, & thanks for your comment on the other site, much appreciated 👍🏻

Definitely something odd going on over there though. Your comment came up twice, so I green ticked one of them, then my response comment didn’t look like it had gone (some red box popped up) sent again same thing, then refreshed the page and my response came up twice as well?? Weird.

Received a couple of Lipo packs and a pair of Hobbywing 1060s. My 2.4GHz kit hasn't arrived yet. So gave the Lunchbox a bath.

AJs 0194 and 0195 painted, typical Brat tires for rear, and the rare 1.5 Brat front (Prostar #51820).  These are the “Turbo Blaster F-225” tires.

Last night I finished trimming and mocking up my new JConcepts Bigfoot #4 body, well... almost. I Still need to cut the hole for the grill insert.

I might do a build thread covering the process of putting this body together. For the price it seems to be good bang for the buck.

Yea the repair seems to be holding up. 150kg Araldite is good stuff - it takes a while to cure but it is extremely strong and long lasting (I’ve used it for all sorts of jobs incl repairing vintage golf woods, my tool handles, small home repairs in my work as a builder, etc). The original upright top arm attachment looks like an obvious weak point when you compare the two sides eh? Wouldn’t mind blinging out the DT-02 Buggy Champ project to shed a bit of plastic with alu shocks, wheels and bumper, so might add alu knuckles to the list next time I snap something...

I decided to bite the bullet and give my Rustler some decent tires, better springs, and a rear toe-in mod. I was surprised to find that it'll go anywhere that my Stampede can, but with more stability.

Realised I'd ordered Schumacher Cat tyres, not 2.2" buggy tyres like I had intended.

Thought I had wasted £18

Then realised; Schumacher Cat tyres fit Tamiya Star Dish wheels! Yay, disaster averted.
