I did some shopping.

Sometimes I complain about quality of Tamiya cars. Tools are a different story and they are exceptional.

my next projects centre around rebuilding a heap of Marui Hunter and Galaxy cars I have. I've started printing replacement parts for the bits I don't have using @silvertriple files. Although I am having some issues with my printer.

While I dither on the printer issues, I am also working on the Marui Mitsubishi builds. I have some spare bodies from the test prints and over Christmas I managed to source a Comic Hornet Chassis. So fitting a body to the chassis has begun.

I did a little more on the MF01x SCT.

The battery always annoyed me, although it was mostly tucked under the body it somewhat ruined the profile of the car.

I picked up a 21700 Li Ion battery. These have some of the benefits of LiPO but can be stored at any voltage. They are 5000 MaH and half the weight of NiMH. I run on the 1060 LiPO mode to be safe.

I made battery holder with some IKEA brackets, spray painted blue.

Based on a post by @technics I also ordered some new 72mm wheels.

The 21700 batteries fit perfectly in the chassis.

IKEA bracket, drilled and spray painted blue lock them in place.

Looks lean!

Now the front is so light I might look at options to join the 380 club to balance out front and back weight. This will now pull a wheelie on a high traction surface.

Today i did receive the promised 380 heatsink+fan combo, modified it to fit and installed them on my Scorched DT02.

Then i finally got around to building a new gearbox for my CW01 chassi on which i run my Lunchbox or Midnight Pumpkin body, just need an ESC and RX and its ready to run again,.

After a week hiatus (back to work and other stuff) I got back to my TO build today, and progressed quite a bit. I was concerned that the shocks would put a damper -pun intended- to my so far great bulding experience, as they definitely did for the Mid two years ago. I remember how they drove me crazy, how I had to tear them apart and rebuild them so many times before finally getting them right (no leaks ever since, at least).

Luckily, this time it was a breeze. Concentration and a generous amount of Green Slime did the job first try.

Here's my makeshift damper stand... not as fancy as Tamiya, but Lindor is not so bad

20250107-224536.jpg

I let the assembled shocks stand for a few hours before mounting them on the car. No leaks, so it's a go.

20250108-084629.jpg

It was then time to get out the electronics. Since this car will not be driven too hard, and given the vintage vibe I am striving for, I decided to recycle this bad boy that was mounted on my Big Boss in my childhood. This 35ish year old Super Tigre servo never skipped a beat! I took a minute to open it up and lightly regrease the gears, by now bone dry, and it was as good as new.

20250111-133731.jpg

It is actually more responsive than some of my modern servos. As luck would have it, the colors are a perfect match for the car

20250111-192427.jpg

I kept going with the rest of the electronics: a pretty basic Surpass ESC, my FlySky receiver of choice, and a hot period correct Reedy Radon for some vintage horsepower

20250111-192408.jpg

The golden endbell also matches the car theme

20250111-200712.jpg

One final look at the gears and power on for a quick bench test...

20250111-205024.jpg

...and then the gear cover goes in.

20250111-205102.jpg

This is the car so far. I hope you can see the pictures, as I didn't get around to switching to the new host yet.

The OCD part of me, which I am wildly indulging in this build, is very happy so far 😊

@Saito2 ..... you got the right idea!

Since it's SNOWING here in Arizona (in the foothills anyway), I thought I'd take my SCX-10 and CC-02 out to play in the snow! ❄️ 😅

I can understand that completely – it looks stunning! Simply beautiful! :)

Yesterday I drove to the other side of town to visit another club. They have an indoor track there that made me curious. The people were very nice and I really like the track. :) It was quite cold in the hall though.
I drove with my TT02SR (Peugeot 406), XV02 (Alfa Romeo) and XM01 (Porsche 914). I can't say it often enough: The XM01 drives like a dream, at least with the current setup. My XV02 also drove very well, but was a bit over-powered for the track. I didn't get around the tight corners so well with the TT02SR, which is probably due to the locked front differential (this is the original kit setup). How can I change my driving style to master tight corners with the locked front diff?

It was my first time on carpet. There is much more grip than on the asphalt track at my club. I now have such a sticky coating on the tires. How do I get it off?

Sounds like it was a fun day out :) The indoor track looks very legit, loving the curbs. The only time I went to one myself it was also on sticky carpet, so I know what you mean, so much grip!

That in the photo is now one of the best scale looking slick tires I have ever seen :D that texture on the surface is visually perfect, just like the real deal... that being said, I think a few runs on asphalt or any abrasive surface would likely get rid of it and restore the tires to normal conditions.

Slowly I am coming to the end of the assembly of this TT02. Lot of hopup from different manufacturers, Tamiya itself, Yeah Racing, some unknown Chinese copier...

Neither rc nor Tamiya related:
Today I finally hung up the beautiful display case that my wife gave me for Christmas. Now the surviving 1:87 scale vehicles from my childhood have found a worthy place. 🙂

I’ve started building my Schumacher Cougar 2 Works Classic. This is my first buggy build, and my first ‘vintage’ build, also my first Schumacher build. It’s been… interesting so far. There’s been several points where I’ve had to remove some things in order to complete the next steps. There’s also been a couple of times where it seemed like parts didn’t fit but I think I’m not used to such tight tolerances, coming from Tamiya kits - all sorted with a firm shove. I’ve also installed the aluminium front yokes,  it couldn’t fit the washers on, only the E clips. Nearly done though, only a couple of bags to go, then electrics and body.

I wanted to see what alloy wheel covers would look like on the banana-frog (as I like to call it)

I've also been struggling to resist buying a Hotshot 2 and/or a black edition Monster Beetle.  It's tough.

I took out some cars for a quick blast of the BMX track.

ny1Clpz.jpeg

The Taiyo has quite a weedy motor, so although it could get up the hills the speed didn't lend to much fun driving. At the moment it's got a random 280 motor from the collection, but I might explore a hotter 370 motor there.

The MX01x FJ45 drove nicely, but I need to glue the wheels and gear up a little. It looks great on track and drives well, but it's a little slow.

nIjCboS.jpeg

The MF01x SCT was a total blast. This has a torque tuned motor, and this combined with a higher gearing and Lexan body means it really moves. Only issue was the a few roll overs seem to have taken off the paint from the body. I used generic plastic paint, which I don't think can flex like Lexan paint, so it now seems to be flaking away (see base of A pillar). Might have to strip and paint properly, although that will mean reprinting and redoing all the stickers, which is a shame.

New tires seemed to hold up well, I'm impressed.

Only mechanical issue was the motor got out of mesh, which is a problem with this chassis. I've now got 3mm anti vibration washers and tightened down far more, so should be ok from now on in. It's not a perfect chassis by any means, but I do really enjoy what it offers.

I printed a mount to relocate my esc so it’d fit with the fan, and also hold the transponder nicely in the window. Just need to put a battery connector on and paint the body and it’ll be ready for some RBP :D

Following it's new year runs on the beach, I did some work on the Fighting Buggy. First I replaced the plastic counter gear with a shortened brass driveshaft. Then I put a fresh Torque Tuned motor in, as the original motor had felt a bit tired. Now I only have to wait for the next holiday on the sea-side. :-)

curious where you found this case. I’ve been looking for something like this for my uncle’s Dinky toy collection that I inherited.

Hello everyone...it's been a while

After moving house just over a year ago and focusing on renovations and decorating for the last 12 months, there's been no time for RC. Plus, with the new house offering a change of room arrangements and sizes, there's no space for RC display!

So I've been selling a few projects on...my Super Dooper Astute, Hopped Up DF03, TA04-SS Audi TT, TA03-F Pro Drift AMG GT3, TA03-F Impreza WRC, TB02-R AMG GT3, TA02-SW GT2, TT02 SR-XXX chassis, TT02-R, M07-R and M03 Mini Cooper have all gone on to new homes, along with a few NIB kits. There are a few projects still up for sale and a few more that, with a bit of time taken to finish them off, will also be ready to move on to new owners.

So today, for the first time in 16 months, I picked up my RC tools again!

First job is to finish the TRF-style conversion of my TA03-RS GT3...and see if I remember how it's all supposed to go together
