Today i got together the M-06L that will go beneath the Ghia shell.

1AEOrfa.jpeg

Was surprised to find the rear pogos too long for the included springs, leaving a gap and crouching the rear end, i added in two left over shock clips to take up the slack.

Dad called earlier today saying that he had gotten stuck with his M-06S/Alpine A110 so im going to visit on Sunday to help him along.

Just place a bevel gear in between the other two and it's locked. No putty, no JB weld, no aftermarket inserts.

Thanks man. I wished I knew about this over a year ago when I build the silly thing. Now I don't need locked diffs but I know how to lock them when I do!

This was last week.

I needed a proper break from my E-learning, so I decided to take my most capable buggy out to the BMX track and see it fly.

While no stranger to spinning its wheels in anger on gentler playgrounds, it was the first time for my Optima Mid facing a hard environment.
This being a rough, countryside BMX track, it was in no way a proper RC course though at a glance it may have looked the part, giving a false sense of security for the cars to run. The jumps were high and rarely at an optimal angle, pebbles and protruding rocks came in spades all over the place and weeds were lurking at every corner, ready to snap or get tangled up into every moving part of the vehicle. I've certainly taken some risks when choosing to run my highest specs off roader full throttle in there.

With the hindsight, I can say that my boldness was rewarded. The track remained deserted like I found it for the whole duration of my run, which, "thanks" to some massive wild fires happening a few provinces away from us, took place under an all-day lasting golden hour. While definitely a little eerie, the amazingly rich orangy light gave a big boost to the overall experience.
Most importantly, the car came back unscathed, and not because I was easy on it. On the contrary, I ran it like I meant it and of course experienced a few tumbles, a long nasty wing darkslide (skateboarding term for a slide happening with the wheeled side up) and a couple of front hits with protruding rocks, which really made me cringe. Despite that, after a quick dust off and cleanup, all I could account for was a small dent on the front bumper and maybe a couple light scratches on the undertray. Amazing. How's that for durability? Way to go, Kyosho. Their legendary series may be expensive but man, they are worth every penny IMHO.

The Hornet and Mad Van came along for support and were also ready to have a go at the track, but the Mid just stole the stage for the whole duration of the outing.
I wanted to see the it fly, and it happily did. Amongst my fleet, only my Hornet and Manta Ray can claim to have landed higher jumps, and lenghtwise I think it was right there with my most "extreme" stunts done with those cars. The driving behaviour of the Mid, jumps aside, was irreprensible. Nimble and precise around the track.
I am impressed, and only wish that my area offered vintage events like elsewhere, so I could have a go at properly racing it.

I hope the photos will upload properly.

Yes they did. Impressive! Running your car like that and taking those pictures.

My trucks(and sofa) have been stolen by a three year old and his panda accomplice.

Edit. For some reasons Imgur is still being odd. Best work around seems to be outside of the app, click on a picture and then open image as new tab and copy the URL.

Back today from an afternoon of rc use after a hiatus. I’m buzzing from the fun.

F150 Pre Runner + two 4000mah lipo packs, fine loose gravel, an adult and three kids having a go. Incredibly robust for a vintage bone stock rig :)

Tail end of the session we lost rear wheel drive. Under clean up and initial tear down inspection one side of the the pressure plate of the ball diff has had it’s teeth stripped on the inside.

I have a new hardened outdrives and a pressure plate set in the basket along with bearings but before I hit the endorphin button is there an obvious alternate choice for rear diff that drops in from you TA02/S/T experts out there? I should probably just get the entire new diff set ( manta ray ? ) to have the internals as a spare.

There was nothing else obvious in the other out drive couplings or rear transfer case where the long driveshaft connects both ends of the vehicle. I do have three of these pre runners I could chuck in another’s dift to see if it solves things.

I installed the standard 19t pinion in my XV02 Alfa Romeo GTA again, with the 23t the vehicle was much too fast for rc rally.

spacer.pngspacer.pngTook my Comical GPL Tribute DT03 for a spin in front of the house.

Once I got the Dunlop C5 tires in the right operating window the car stuck like glue in the corners. No snap oversteer  yet very pointy the way I like it.

In fast corners I did notice some inbalance because of the new frontwing ( no flexiwing allowed anymore)  but nothing disturbing.

Straightline speed was impressive, topping around a blistering 20 kmh with the torque tuned motor on a 3000 mah Nimh!

During the long runs tire degradation was minimal,  not much graining.

It was so nice to run and funny to watch!

Backyard test for my Injora

Basic 275mm wheelbase chassis extended to 305mm.

Brused 35T motor , ESC from TT02 kit (seems a 1060 clone by Carson)

Simply light kit controlled by transmitter

Today was a good day at work:
- on the lathe, managed to modify some wheels to play with the Super Sabre (rims from a "Venom Mini Giant RC Truck" - 2004 - Who remembers those?)
- laser-cut & bent a phone holder to put on my transmitter.

Went to Almosta Rc Ranch located in Twin Falls, ID about 2 hours away to do some racing!

Super fun track (especially for gas truck) with lots of whoops, technical tight corners and rollers, bumps and tables. Had a blast! Was a laid back and fun race program with the right number of classes to finish early.

There is a option from Xtra Speed for the TA02 gear diff to modify it to an oil-filled one: Xtra Speed Gear Differential Combo Set

@Sgt.Speirs Sound option, and I see this one is offered with all the Tamiya original parts to get it to work.

I saw this housing at tamico and I did a quick tally up with all the necessary Tamiya parts needed. It came to a whopping 85 euro, another 25 or so and you have a TA02 in a bag kit.

Although all original with no wheels etc.

For now I went with just the replacement pressure plate and a few hop ups for fun. If it breaks again í´ll go with the rcmart option, thanks for that share!

Started setting up a new project. I love the A4 Audi!

Great: I love beltdriven cars!

May I ask what chassis this is?

@Torhaantje Sure thing! :) TRF418, I have been collecting them on and off from TRF417 to 419. I don´t compete in any way, just enjoy using them as bases for projects and occasional pavement bashing...

Incredible running vehicles, so neat. Swiss watch, zero slop.

Mind the mess, some double sided tape got loose and no zip ties yet.

Here´s previous projects with similar bases 419 Lancia Stratos and a 417X WRC Subaru "speed" run car.

Today I did a bit more work on my jumble sale rescue Hornet, adding decals and headlights to the shell:

2025-06-24_11-15-37

It still needs electrics, a driver figure and a servo saver, but is coming along quite nicely.

On the subject of electrics, it came with a Mabuchi 540 with a black plastic endbell. Does this have any historical significance? It runs but is a bit rusty. Worth restoring, or shall I just pop a new one in?

I have been slowly working on a Alpin A110 for my MB-01. I got it trimmed and painted but still need to get all the dingleberries painted and installed on it. I took it for a test spin in the parking lot to see if there was any rubbing. The test run turned into about an hour of lazy figure 8's and turns around random twigs. It was an absolute blast. I decided a while back to take off the CVA's in favor of the spring shocks and it was a good decision for me. The body leans so realistically in the turns it's mesmerizing. I'd post a pic but I am not smart enough to keep up with the changes around here.
