Well, it's not toy car related (no time of late for such things, but I'll be back soon) but it does feel quite Tamiyaclub so I thought I'd pipe up. Or, at least, it's very me-on-tamiyaclub if nothing else!

Following a post separation exodus of many things from my home (and from my bank account) I decided I would try to buy second hand wherever possible, and be relaxed about the place being a bit empty for a time. That doesn't bother me.

But as most Brits will confirm, in these parts toast is like tea or warm beer. Without it we're all at sea. Breakfastless. A day begun that way is no day at all. So top of my list was an old Dualit toaster from ebay. A king among toasters, but silly money new. Mine was cheap but gobsmackingly filthy and not working. And I quickly realised the screws were either overtightened, corroded or their heads were knackered. So I measured and ordered some rather odd hardware, spent a day stripping it, attacking it with fine wire wool and Brasso, and the ultrasonic cleaner, a bit of straightening with vise and hammer, then a refit with (as you'd expect) new metric hardware, a long head scratch about the wiring, a few test toasts before I configured it right but by some miracle no replacement parts other than screws required. Then the crowning glory, a furthering of my line in 3d printed knobs, in orange to match my kitchen tap.

I'm very pleased with it. More personalisation of household items to follow (and some precede this too). I've found a new niche.

Also our local club got a new track, so spent some time working and racing on it!

I came back from a long holiday with larger family including nephews and nieces.

They are a little older now (10 -13) and had really enjoyed RC cars in lockdown, but had grown out of it a little.

I bought 3, the SCT MF01x, brushless QD Lunchbox and QD King Cab.

tUbtKZn.jpeg

What was lovely is that not only did the kids want to play with them when I did, they actively asked if they could take them out.

All worked well on the short grass.

The MF01x with its 390 motor was great. Smooth over bumps and fast with great handling. Kids favourite.

The quick drive LB was brilliant, it's on one of my favourites. Powered with 8 x AA batteries going into small brushless it's way more powerful than it should be. Although it's basic the big tires soak up a lot, so you don't get that 'hop' that a grasshopper makes. Hop Up spiked tires really gripped well.

The QD king Cab was more hoppy. With a small 370 motor it wasnt super fast, so I might go brushless.

Only the LB survived the week.

The MF01x motor lost a lead as the solder failed, and the King Cab's pinions came loose, and I didn't have the tools to fix.

Very much worth it for the fun. Picking the three to bring was tricky but think I made the right choice, although the heavy dump, CW01 pumpkin and CR12 Pumpkin would have also worked!

@Aerobert Oh, Thanks so much for the kind words. I wasn't really sure if I liked it that much but it is kind of growing on me now. Coming up with a livery design is difficult!

Gave the C11 a first outing on a large parking lot until the pinion became loose.

3u680Os.jpeg

It drove surpisingly well with the stock setup, but the Sport Tuned got quite hot. (Thats probably also the reason why the pinion became loose)

And there where some small pebbles that collided with the step underneath.

But I really like the Look of it. Originally I wanted to make something non boxart (I really like yours @Ferruz) but couldn't decide on something. Now I am quite pleased with the boxart design.

Yesterday I took the Mad Van out on its first Italian adventure. I was a bit reluctant to bring it to a beach with salty water, so eventually decided to hit some fields right behind it on the road to the lighthouse.

Here it is with a feathered spectator, moments before attempting a jump over the ditch. Bird was cute and oddly nonchalant

This photo is the most significant of the bunch. Ditch jump accomplished! Screenshot_20250829-122353_Video-Player.

The battery lasted just under 20 minutes, but it felt very punchy all the way so good enough. This run was great fun and the location is one of my favourite places, so good times were had. Nonetheless, I think that next one will be right on the beach: the forecast shows some rain, so I should be able to run the van in wet sand without having to go all the way to the sea, hence avoiding most of the salt 🥂

the last week or so, I've been preparing a Proline bull dog body to copy. This is a very old project that will hopefully be finished soon. So this is the body I am copying with a 3D printed internal support structure and I will cast urethane into the gap to make a mold that I can then vac form a couple of copies from. I'd been experimenting with a Mk1 Gold body previously to get a feel for the process. So I made the setup pretty much the same as the golf, expect for this version I've made all the pieces lock together so there is little movement and the placement of the body to the shell is more centred.

Golf-chassis-extension-1.jpeg

and for the Golf body I've been playing around with, I want to mount to a M05 chassis, but its too short. So I found on Printables a M05 chassis extension, and it turns out @Honza had made these, so a big thanks, they worked perfectly :D

Now in my endeavours to vac form car bodies, Polycarbonate shells have always been the goal, but they are hard to do as they attract a lot of moisture and if not dried properly, you'll get water vapour bubbles forming in the shell. So Friday I found a second hand medical drying cabinet that would work and picked it up,

I was invited to a friend's birthday party. Had 2 cars and 4 pylons with me as part of the programme. Young and old had fun 🙂 Edit: I love transmitters with EPA to reduce the maximum speed, very convenient for beginners.

Put the finishing touches to my TT01E truck for racing at Newbury. It's been a long time since I sprayed a body (or raced for that matter) and it's not my best work, but it's identifiable as mine, so that's good enough I reckon!

Two ready to paint, but I need black paint. My LHS was all out of PS black and the Evri guy is running way behind with my package.

I was bored waiting for the postman so I went ahead and built the TT02 Toyota Celica, I added a few blue bits that were lying around.. high speed gear set, 29 tooth pinion, CVD's all round, aluminium drive cups aluminium servo horn, yeah racing battery holder, it will be painted black box art once the paint arrives.

Had the Fox out for a brief run today. I tried running more aggressively front ribbed tires with more bite. The wheels are a pale florescent yellow. Not sure if they look good or not. What do you think?

Fox1 Fox3 Fox2

Unfortunately, the activities were cut short by a fence post that jumped in the way, stripping the front upright. With ebay and paypal pretty much banned in my house, I'm not sure where to safety source parts anymore using just a credit card. Tamiya USA has had worrying data breaches in the past and I've never tried using credit with Tony's Tamiya Parts. This may sit disabled for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, I like them much better. One day I will have a Novafox myself, it's been on my wishlist for a long time.

@Saito2 All Fox’s look good, the yellow wheels are good, so are the white, I raced my original back in the day with white.

I would 100% recommend TTP, I’ve used him regularly for items to Australia, postage is fair, and quick enough.

You can order stuff on ebay as a guest with a credit card. No need to sign or have an account with ebay or PayPal. I do recommend making a new email just for purchasing things, they tend to send a lot of useless messages, so it would reduce the clutter on your main email. Another option is ordering parts from your local hobby store, they usually can order things directly from Tamiya if they have a dealer account. For certain common to break parts that you need to wait long enough for, I recommend ordering double or triple of the parts you need.

Been messing about with the front panel off my Monster Beetle and finally reached the point of painting. TS16 yellow. Anyone else had trouble with TS16?

Horrible paint. Seems to want to run.

I have a Lunchbox to paint at some point - it won't be the box art yellow!
