You can also order it without the pullstart with a delete plate already on it.

AE is now taking pre order for a direct fit engine, on their website. Doesn't say the brand of it I assume a thunder tiger.

The case and head look new but the carb and air filter look to be the same ones that came on the RC10GT RTR. So yeah, probably Thunder Tiger.

Mine is on order with the AE Nitro motor. This will just be a shelf queen. It'll be box art and sit next to my rere RC10T.

Mine arrived today. They were out of motors when I ordered. I may just do the Traxxas engine. Does anyone know if the pull start will be an issue with the engine mount or the header and pipe?

You can buy a non pull start backplate for that motor if it doesn’t fit.  Traxxas #4012.  Also it looks like preorders are back open on the associated site for their engine.

As someone entirely unfamiliar with nitro (even as an older dude), it would seem the only two options for engines are the AE and the Traxxas with the pull start replaced with a backplate - at least in terms of drop-in solutions. Does that sound about right?

That’s about it currently.  There are plenty of older motors that would have fit but the only solution for those currently is eBay or any other reseller.  I always had luck with O.S. But even used I wasn’t finding any great deals, and plus a used nitro with questionable current parts support makes me nervous.  In the end I preordered the AE motor and wait patiently for that.

I was all set to skip the GT until AE announced an in-house engine. Too cool to pass up. Engine arrived today.

Exactly. I think sticking with a new engine for my first foray into nitro would be the better choice. Amain has the AE engine back up for preorder so I'll just wait that one out.
