Surely The Hornet has to be up there!!

Not sure if it's because it looks to be going fast, or that it's got a bit of the JPS vibe of the time?

I think the Tamiya Road Wizard has to be a contender. It also remains the only box to be orientated upright.

Plus one for this baby... Plenty of gorgeous art on the boxes, but in my opinion this is the very best. That stance, they just nailed it. It reminds me of a Grizzly bear about to attack

It's not me stopping you :)

Spurring me on? :)

This text is from an earlier post I made years back but it fits...

th-2648941802.jpg.58e45eabd96866863f848ea1b7436262.jpg

The Fox. The stance of the car clearly emphasizes how the body designs mimics a Fox's head. Slender, tapering snout, wing for "ears" etc.

th-200815570.jpg.ec3696210a4c964b04714e4c3c0d6ede.jpg

The Hornet. Aside form looking like one, the boxart depicts the buggy making an exaggerated, swift turn or change in direction. Hornets and bees generally move in quick darting motions like this in real life too.

th-2846577608.jpg.24890e626c796d1d0e633273e6ead9a5.jpg

The Falcon. Now this one can be subtle. Its no too different than the Bigwig for example. However the Falcon body design plus its boxart stance shows the buggy swooping in and down into the frame, much like its namesake, poised to strike.

th-3151052696.jpg.5367f4f2a823a610eb2cc9e6f3d196f6.jpg

The Boomerang. Another subtle one. The Boomer is pictured making a turn and coming back toward the viewer, much like the real thing perhaps.

th-2748440024.jpg.c7241f5b92d33c0f082af9ba718ff740.jpg

The Hot Shot. Here's one where I question if the artist drove the vehicle. Looking at how the front suspension is acting when pitched hard into the depicted turn, while exaggerated for dynamics, isn't too far off the real buggy.

th-1201185864.jpg.48dad3c1a3d5159aab0724311fd33183.jpg

The Hot Shot 2. This might be completely in my mind but the buggy's, somewhat like the Boomerang, turning and coming back to the viewer. Perhaps this signifies the "return" of the Hot Shot name in a sense.

th-1384334362.jpg.493bce5e7f7ad4f3d9c5b4f1d1adcec2.jpg

The Bulhead. Ever drive a Clod or Bullhead? they bounce and bound a lot (much like real 1980s monster trucks). I would have thought, for its massive size, the Bullhead would be shown crushing something or emphasizing its girth. Instead, the artist cleverly zigs instead of zags showing the huge truck leaping into the picture, which actually isn't far off from reality.

I'm a sucker for the cutaways.

I'm a technical drawer by profession and I am a sucker for exploded views, x-ray views, cutaways, schematics and ... the manuals ... where especially Tamiya is still benchmark in my opinion.

First I’m gonna say all the tamiya box arts are pieces of art in their own right bar none! All look super cool and it’s what make tamiya kits stand out:wub: we all remember back in the early years when we went to our perspective hobby shop it was the tamiya box art that drew us in but my favourite for no other reason other than it’s an actual comical car that looks equally as cool as the kit thats inside the box and I could actually see myself driving it! but like I say they’re all brilliant:D and the none tamiya box art has to go to the 40th anniversary team associated rc10s I think they’ve knocked them out the park:wub:

The Bruiser was my first love (and my first RC too) and I feel quite sad about my original boxes been destroyed during several moves. To be honest in 1988 I had never thought that they would become so "precious".

I remember when a hobby shop had ~10 of the Jun RTR hornets on the shelf ready to run on clearance discount, I think under $150 each(it was years ago and they were in the 'I don't even have to ask permission' price point).   Probably should of bought the stack...
