Hi folks,

I would like some help with my Technigold/Mabuchi engines.
I just bought a vintage Bigwig and I'm assuming the motor is original.  I have compared it with my other motors from other sources as I need to replace the brushes, which are completely worn out.

Some time ago, I received some golden cans in the “lab” that I can't quite identify. The funny thing is that one of them was machined to install a water cooling system.

The rotor shaft on these two motors is shorter than on the other Technigolds I have in stock. One shaft is 66.5mm long, one is 68mm long. The shaft of the 100% original Technigold is 70mm long.  For comparison, I also measured the shaft of the Technipower, which is also 70mm.

I assume that the rotor of these two motors has been replaced once. Only for what? There is no inscription or marking, one of the rotors has been machined (balanced?), the other has a white insulation disk (like the rotor of the Technipower). However, the shaft is shorter on both.

Does anyone have any idea which rotors these could be? Is there a way to figure that out?

I would of course like to assemble correct motors.
I already had the idea of putting together a Technipower, which is not 100% perfect, but I know that the rotor is the correct one.

What would you do?

Detail on the side:
It's also funny that one of the Technigolds I once bought has an aftermarket label stuck on the wrong way round... if you're going to fake it, do it right

Water cooling jacket suggests boat use - perhaps a boat supplier got hold of some teardowns from Mabuchi back in the day and modified for their own market?

Hard to tell whether the windings are the same or whether it is a different winding for a different purpose. Both look like single winds, perhaps slightly more turns of a thinner wire on the unknown motors?

Different shaft length may just be a batch thing or might be the difference between buying teardowns direct from Mabuchi and Tamiya's own supply.
