Custom stretched Globe Liner build

Recommended Posts

This is where I'm building my custom Globe Liner! Can't really get started yet.... there's two others that have to be finished first. But since I have to wait to paint the others.... I thought I'd tear into this!

LOVE how old school the Globe Liner kit looks!

First mod - the big one. Frame stretch. Not crazy long.... using a King Hauler chassis instead of the Globe Liner chassis.ย

pqzyG3f.jpeg

The only thing I had to do was drill the 6 holes in the front and top of the frame rails, to fit the Globe Liner Cab to the King Hauler frame.ย

pHyRJMV.jpeg

And I only did the measurements on one frame rail... I then mounted the GL floor to the right frame rail, and simply drilled through the three left holes!

Fits like it should!

Thanks to @BuggyDad,ย  I've got a 3D Printed front bumper mount, which moves the bumper closer to the Cab, looking far more scale! Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Šย

I needed room, so I moved the steering servo sideways.... and will do a gearbox mounted servo for shifting.ย

Because THIS Truck is getting a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1200kv brushless crawler motor! Thanks to @NUFCRc !!

Alright..... I went a little farther! ๐Ÿ™„

Built the axles and the Gearbox. After my third one, I've stopped looking at the manual!! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Ž

rzTk20S.jpeg

Yup, it's official.... this Truck is going BRUSHLESS! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜ย  Hobbywing Fusion SE 1200kv brushless crawler motor/ESC combo. The motor/ESC is a shave longer than a 550 brushed. So I had to axe the shifter servo and move the steering servo sideways. But it all will fit well.

...... Now I've got to figure out how long the driveshaft needs to be. I'm guessing the same length as the King Hauler, since I'm using the KH chassis.ย

Still waiting to paint the Knight Hauler! ๐Ÿ˜ž

So........ moving along with the Globe Liner! A bit more anyway. I've had this kit since 2021, one of 4 Semi Trucks I bought... that short period of time after I got my Inheritance.ย

Did my rear wheel mod again. It worked so well on the Knight Hauler. I simply fitted the wheel screws in from behind, with the tiniest drop of CA cement. From a small distance, it matches the other studs around the wheel hub.

HWpZeUE.jpeg

Last time, I enlarged the holes to 5mm.... this time I went 6mm holes. Tell me what you think?

sRmlNGn.jpeg

An old trick.... I stick double sided tape to a piece of cardboard. Rub the tape across my shirt, to pick up lint, and take most of the sticky out of it. Holds things in place nicely whilst you spray paint! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wheels done, sprayed with TS-17 Alumininium.ย

I definitely am! Didn't expect to be working on multiple kits... but I have to paint outside, and it's too cold to paint. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Well, it's still cold in the Arizona desert!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎย  So I'm continuing my Globe Liner build.ย

Borrowing another idea from @Mad Axย ... a Cabover truck needs a large engine "doghouse".....

UtIkZsV.jpeg

To make the doghouse, I took a spray paint cap, cut it in half, and glued it over the hole that the motor sticks out of. Then, because glue can crack over time, I applied a small bead of RTV Silicone around and under the cap.

RhQumLw.jpeg

Sanded the floor and doghouse, with 500 grit sandpaper.ย

7Fr3FQZ.jpeg

Then paint! ๐Ÿ˜Š

7uWbuL9.jpeg

Then I decided to modify the dashboard, for a more wraparound look....

HyWH3ON.jpeg

Added a cup holder....

3XxGVfd.jpeg

And will be adding a trucker's favorite beverage!! ๐Ÿ˜œย  In my world, it's still 1982! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I can't claim credit for the idea - I was shown it by my good friend and old-time Tamiyaclubย member @djderk

Since, when I bought this kit 3 years ago, still had money, and KNEW this was going to be a custom Rig...

I also bought several accessories and details. One of which is these LESU Mud Flaps set. They're nice, and substantial. BUT are they worth $27.00 [USD]

qdyuubq.jpeg

Except for smaller screws (1.6mm YIKES!!), and alumininium flap mounts... they look very much like the Tamiya bits....

mY8FbC8.jpeg

Here's the mud guards from my Knight Hauler... these are stock Tamiya parts.

O4wCGTt.jpeg

Got the Fuel Tanks done... don't know why, but these are my favorite type. Being Kaptain OCD.... I absolutely couldn't use JIS screws here! I used chrome hex head screws instead. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fitted the fuel tanks.... and thought about the gap, because of the stretched frame. My Knight Hauler had a spare Battery Box, so I fitted that behind one of the tanks.

But now what to do with the other side? I don't have anything to put on the right side......

Scraps..... bits from other kits..... and medical supplies! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Vm4wpPK.jpeg

I built my usual divider, from .040" ABS. Then mounted a Shotgun from my Axial Wraith kit!ย

Built a raised centre floor, fit a shifter from the Wraith, acting as a manual Diff Lock... then glued a piece of parts tree (sprue) as the Gearbox Shift Rod, to be painted silver.

aKb4slU.jpeg

The shifter boot......? I cut the tip off an insulator for an ear scope. ๐Ÿ˜œย  Sometimes it pays to have Nurses coming to visit!!!

yPejtnN.jpeg

Some black paint, and voilรก!
