Frog vs Beetle. What is exchangeable?

This is something I hear a lot around mod threads. What exactly does that mean? Replace the existing axles or are there parts to make them longer?

What would I use in that case?

I know I could google but I do not know what to look for.

Thank you for the link!!

These tires should fit regular 2,2" MB rims right?

Hmm.. The extension is either 15, 20 or 25mm. I guess 20mm should be enough since that makes up for a tad more than the extra width.

Yes, the Mud Thrasher tires will fit the 2.2" wheels.  https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/4894  They are designed to fit a 2" wide wheel (51mm), with a 2.2" diameter (56mm).

As for the extensions, I didn't send you that link as a recommendation to "buy this one".  Its just the first example that came up when I did an ebay search.  I'll do a little digging and try to figure out what I bought.

Terry

ETA digging through my ebay and amazon order history, I can't find the purchase.  It was probably an amazon purchase since ebay history is usually pretty good.  I'll measure the length later tonight.  Send me a PM to remind me.

after all that, it’s probably easier and as affordable to buy a complete MB kit.

Wise words here. Should just leave the Frog as a Frog and buy a whole new monster kit.

I actually agree. But I already have a MB builds from kit and this frog is stone dead. And I like a fun cross breed project. I love the idea of making my own vision come true rather than settle for what's in the box.

It is not supposed to become a MB, though I plan to use that body. The Frog is done no matter and would need equal amounts of parts and work to get back in shape.

So you could in reality say that I don't have a Frog. Just parts from one.

Just measured the extensions I used.  25mm for both front and rear.

I just realized this may not work for the front of a typical MB, and I have done the front 12mm hex mod.

So, the rebuild of my Frog Beetle mashup has begun!

Ahh, so you were the guy who outbid me on Tradera

Now, my max bid was only 250DKR/30EUR so congrats!

It's quite the Madmax car!

Yes, a load of parts are trash but I do dig the wooden parts. I'd restore it with the crazy external cage/rollbar thing if it was me

Good luck and I'll follow this restoration. Perhaps take it to right part of the forum? ^_^

Cheers,

Ole

Oh! I'm sorry 😥 But I promise it will get love here as well!

Me too! Sadly some of the wooden parts, like the bumper, was completely broken and/or not exact enough, like the front suspension. It made the wheels impossible to align in a way that would make it fun to drive. But my original plan was to keep the wooden suspension at first!

The roll cage stays on definitely! I have to make better attachments though because it flapped around and made no one happy. I'm going to keep all the quirky metal parts and weird home made solutions as well.

So, it's going to remain a Madmax car, but hopefully a lot more functioning. The body was torn to shreds and I have a MB body that I can make look trashy.

And yes, you are right.... This thread was meant to get insights to parts of the models and turned to a build thread.

Best to you neighbor!
