Sure the DT04 looks a bit toy like, but after the abominations of the Td2/4 shells I will take a fun looking retro roll cage style buggy any day. Plus I am a massive fan of those new driver figures. I had one in my comical hornet. Its so fun. I really have no need of one (and would probably get a BBX if I wanted that style) but I am glad they are making it.

My 306 shell.is quite sad these days, so if the 306 shells are still available later in the year I might get one.

I hope not haha. I paid good money for my BNIB M-01 Mini to go along side my shelfed M-01 haha

That's the dilemma with all rereleases. I have an BNIB M-02L Porsche Boxter and a Porsche Carrera bodyshell and wheels (without the box and the chassis). They can rerelease them tomorrow for less money than I paid for them...but I don't see Tamiya rereleasing the old M chassis, just the bodyshells.

Gimmie gimmie gimmie...

Story goes, the Falcon's 289 so completely trounced the Minis they had to invent a whole bunch of secret penalties after the fact because the European race commissioners didn't want an American upstart (despite being driven by a fearless Swede) to win.

Cue Ford vs. Ferrari in 3...2...1... or was that 1-2-3 at Le Mans, and 4 consecutive victories, I forget ;)

Some of you are disappointed in Tamiya but I must say (I'm not into small scale -smaller as 1/12th- or drifting) I'm disappointed in Traxxas and Kyosho more than ever. Nothing new except the fazer drifter that was teased a few days ago, or did I missed something?

Am I the only one loving that Audi 90 Quattro IMSA body?  it comes with the correct wheels, too... that's a real nice one from Tamiya in my opinion, give me IMSA cars any day!

I love it too. It's a shame I just bought a Scooby Impreza NBR body.

Traxxas recently came out with the Mini Maxx and a Bigfoot-themed Hoss. I like how the Hossfoot looks, can't say that the Mini Maxx interests me.

I am so happy to see the Mini. I know I am in the minority but the MB-01 interest me greatly but I do not really like the current crop of mini bodies. Once the MB-01 with the Mini body is available, I will be ordering.

The TRF104 is really interesting. I still run a TRF102 which holds its own, but the 104 looks faster as mine are the black edition with no blue

Wait, so Ford needed a 4.7L V8 to take on the 1275cc 4 pot? That seems ridiculous!

I am mostly excited for the body shells of the Mini and the Porsche. Well, the Peugeot and the Volkswagen are great too. I hope they will be available separately.

I am just a little bit worried about the durability of the rear wing on the Porsche, as I would like to use it as a race car shell for the local GT series.

What did you expect from Kyosho?
Like AE, they've completely shot their powder in the last few months, throwing a new car on the market every few weeks. After the extensive 60th birthday party, it's probably time for a hangover. I would have been very surprised if they had turned up at the trade fair with a suitcase full of additional new projects.

I would preorder this thing.  They should do some of the mini 4wd bodies in 1/10

DT-04 looks pretty decent as an introductory buggy.  I like the chassis layout, the suspension with CVA dampers and especially the bell-crank steering.  It seems favourable to the low-end buggies of the 80’s as its probably tougher and a nicer design overall.

DT04 looks interesting, but not such a fan of the super tight fitting body. Looks more like Lego or Gundam aesthetic than the flowing aerodynamic shapes you get with lexan.

I always feel like offer a new chassis with two options of body would be a good idea, and maybe also a truck version.

Might be way too hard or too much investment, but I think the body is quite divisive, and when it's the only Tamiya option for that chassis the body ends up defining the new chassis, like the TD04.

My gut reaction to the buggy was that it looked Lego inspired as well. And who knows, considering the money people pay for Legos it might serve as a gateway drug from Legos to Tamiya... some creative soul might make printed panels with the nubs on the sides for visual effect (someone more talented and interested than me). Maybe even a scaled up Lego driver figure for fun.

A scaled up Lego driver would be great fun. A job for someone more talented than me in design but it's what 3d printers were made for.

But I like the addition of a comical driver. I think it really suits the DT line to go down a fun track on appearance and character. Very Tamiya and also I think makes sense to go cutesy to try to sell entry level buggies for the fun that they are. Fun to build, fun to drive, fun to look at, wide appeal. Not for racing, don't pretend it is.

BTW did you guys notice that the DT04 has a hex front hub?  I think some DT fans have asked for that.

Oh yes! Now we're talking. I can see this getting us some handy transferable parts.

So I think the DT-04 feels like a nice addition.

Do we think there's some rear toe built in there? It looks like it to me. This and the side view also give me the impression that perhaps the gearbox is not the 02/3 part?

Mainly though, I'm interested in the design of the front half of the chassis because it'd be nice if it was a bit tougher than the 03 and my gut feel it should be. I think also with a shorter wheelbase (?) it'll be a little more playful.

Yeah I do think it'd be nice if they'd supply a sealed gear diff option for it but I also share the view that this stuff isn't really needed in an entry level tamiya. Certainly I wouldn't expect them to offer a slipper. But even for kids I think a tighter diff can be a good thing once they get to a certain level.

Rather than adding up scale improvements to the entry level, I'd put that wish list to a mid range line. Diff options, crank steering, tougher plastics, keep the plastic shocks. Tamiya Dirtmaster if you like. But then at this point in my life I wouldn't buy either. I've got enough projects! (but there's only one of me, so who cares about me)

What I will certainly buy though is a Mini Cooper body. And it'll probably spur me into a nice FWD chassis. Did someone say the M-07 doesn't go short enough?

In my humble opinion, the Mini is right up there with the prettiest things they've done and I would love love love to see its front wheels hauling it round a tight postal circuit. Well done Tamiya and BMW for kissing and making up.

And I will get a HCT. Obvs. Everyone should get a HCT.

WHAAAT? BELL CRANK STEERING IN A DT?

That's interesting and I think it makes the 04 much much more different from the the 03 than I'd realised.

But it does, weirdly, give me a niggle. Which is that suddenly the lack of a diff option seems to let it down a bit more for me if the rest of it is at a certain level. Illogical maybe 🤷.

It feels like a well thought out and lightly modified DT-04, perhaps with a lexan body to take the weight down, would perform vastly better on a track than an 03? We do of course already have a modification option to add a sealed gear diff, and mainly the kind of folk who care would be capable of doing that (albeit at +1/3rd of the kit price).

Yup, Much like the Hornet EVO.

Weirdly in recent times the latest new basic Tamiyas interest me the most. Pretty capable when tuned correctly and without all the hassle that comes with high end tuning possibilities... and above all a lot of fun when run on a track with all similar buggy's.
