But it does, weirdly, give me a niggle. Which is that suddenly the lack of a diff option seems to let it down a bit more for me if the rest of it is at a certain level. Illogical maybe

There is the 53863 Tamiya DT02 ball diff set available.

DT-04 according to table, will cost 175 Euros. It is A LOT of money for basic Buggy, with bit stupid body and even no bearings in kit.

I am really interested to buy it, despite I do not like body, but price... DT-03 costs around 80 Euros and it is great. DT-02 Sand Viper is even MUCH better for the same money.

A scaled up Lego driver would be great fun. A job for someone more talented than me in design but it's what 3d printers were made for.

Why not a Lego Technic figure? There's still plenty available. And when you go that route, better make it in an Octan livery.

I can confirm that people pay a lot for Legos. Just sold a rare Star Wars figure, now I need to choose which Tamiya kit to buy from that money.

I love the way Tamiya’s biggest competition is itself and its refusal to kill old models (DF-03, DT-02 etc) half the time.

Tamico has them listed for 135 Euro. Still more than a DT-03 of course

When I look at the DT 04 I see everything Tamiya stands for in my humble opinion:

Fun and humor, scale appearence with a comical touch. Easy to build and maintain. Suitable to mod to your own taste/ preferences.

I can't imagine anyone who is watching it run, who won't  get a big grinn on his/ her face.

For youngsters it will be a great looking and good handling entry buggy to get into the RC hobby.

For oldtimers like myself looking at it takes me right back to my own childhood and makes me fantasize about modding it (and maybe upgrade it with the mighty powerfull Mabuchi 380 st motor!!!).

I can only say: well done Tamiya!

👍

Kudos!

I think it is best and at the same time the worst about DT-04.

If you are Tamiya fan, probably it is nice to see something like this. If you are RC fan, there are other, more interesting options than "funny" looking kit with bushings.

I think there are more RC fans, than Tamiya fans. I am really surprised, because cheap, entry Buggy is always a good idea, especially that DT series is really good. However, because they decided to make it "funny", I have feeling that a lot less people will be interested to buy it. If it would be "standard" Buggy, I would be first person to buy it, because I really like DT series.

It is really weird. It seems that Tamiya has good engineers which are able to design good cars. At the same time, they decided to release another RC Toy. TD2/TD4 is discontinued. It means, that there is NO EVEN ONE Buggy in offer, which can be called modern Buggy and will be produced for next years.

If we go even further, it seems that in 90's and 00's there were many great Buggies, which look interesting even now. So once again, there are or at least were able to design good models. Instead of this they decided to continue with "Toys" and next Re Re Re Re Releases.

Look at DT-02, DB-01, DF-03 and many others. They were "classic" Buggies which probably were able to compete with other brands. Who will consider DT-04 as good Buggy, if we compare it to competitors?

You can call me Tamiya hater, but they do not offer anything interesting to be honest. Few cars* which can be called "nice" and nothing more. I like Tamiya, mainly beacuse I can build car myself and modify it a lot. However, without new interesting models, I think my "journey" with new Tamiya cars will end soon. I will run my current cars, maintain them and upgrade if needed, but nothing more.

*I do not count TRF cars which are on bit different level.

Some of you are disappointed in Tamiya but I must say (I'm not into small scale -smaller as 1/12th- or drifting) I'm disappointed in Traxxas and Kyosho more than ever. Nothing new except the fazer drifter that was teased a few days ago, or did I missed something?

Ill be the first to admit, I spend far to much on this hobby. I can justify the Tamiya’s sat on shelves as my “Collection”. But I have/had the majority of Traxxas vehicles. I love them, I think theyre brilliant. I know not everyone does for very justifiable reasons. I currently have an X Maxx, XRT, Sledge, Rustler 4x4, Stampede 4x4, 2x Wide Maxx’s, Mini Maxx, TRX4, TRX4M. Ive sold a list bigger than that including the on road style RCs, to buy Tamiya’s. With that being said, what else is there to release? What is Traxxas line up missing? We are all anticipating a new release, but I dont think theres anything needed?

I recently looked at buying a Jato 4x4 or a Maxx Slash? You know what I did instead? I bought a super duper fast Charger, Discharger and a new set of Lipos to make it easier to enjoy what I have!

I saw a couple of videos on the DT-04 already and I predict it's going to be super popular.

Wait, so Ford needed a 4.7L V8 to take on the 1275cc 4 pot? That seems ridiculous!

'Murica baby.

That said, there's a great old video out there of a British road race full of Cortinas and Coopers and such circa 1963/64 and someone decided to bring a 427 Galaxie to the party... pure comedy. Minis on three wheels (as one does) shredding the bloated pig in the corners, then Andre the Giant shouts "Everybody move" as the Galaxie passes everyone on the straights and then does it's best to slow to a crawl for the corners. After a few laps the Galaxie's brakes cooked and though the track turned to the right, that big ol' Ford went straight and since the track was slightly elevated, ended up perched at a 45* angle with it's massive trunk hanging over the track- no yellow flag, no clean up crew, just a couple brave souls running out onto the track dodging cars to move a couple hay bales in the way.  Good times.

We now return you to your regular programming. I'd love to see a Mk1 Lotus Cortina body as well.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but looking at this and the earlier pics from previous pages, it's now obvious that the adjustable wheelbase is why we see the front shocks mounted in front or behind the tower. So anyone worried about their vulnerability can run the wheelbase that stuffs them inside, or someone will inevitable come out with a protective cap.

Either I want the reres that most want: OG Astute, Kingcab/Monster racer, Dyna Storm, 959, or the blazing blazer. OR a new 2wd/4wd chassis that sint wierd. Ill take over ebgineered (Avante/Egress), or a failed Idea DBo2.  The TD2/4 were just too weird, the predator and avante shows how you can lay down shocks.  Just rehashing old chassis is getting old, we love the bodies, just make bodies and give us a few new chassis!!!!!

I think the DT-04 looks nice as a simpler and cheaper relative to the BBX. Tape it up as a Wild One or in Blockhead livery and get yourself a set of JC Pepper Pots with narrow fronts and it's much better on the eyes.

Aye. I love it. Paint the Lego blocks TS-102. You would have a simple, cheap (hopefully), comical-without-being-ugly, fun little buggy.

The more I see, the more I like the DT04. It looks like it's designed to get youngsters into the hobby (nexgen is a clue), with a better performing buggy than say a Hornet or Grasshopper. You can get two for your kids, sticker one blue and the other red and can race against each other. No painting required, even the driver is decals I think? The decal sheet includes numbers up to 9 also which makes it even easier to have a bunch running together for fun racing.

Yes, no bearings (apart from the steering)  but you get CVAs and better quality plastics than a TT02 in the suspension arms, hubs and composite dogbones.

There'll be a racing series in  Japan and I wouldn't be surprised if some other places followed suit.

After seeing the video, I say this Fighter is really a step up, if it´s needed or not. It will make agreat beginners and experts buggy. So easy to mod.

The video for me is lacking some important infos for DT users:

DT 04 uses gear box and wishbones from DT02/03. So good to integrate in a Fighter series.

Rear knuckles seem to have toe in for me, so you can add these to your DT02 and DT03.

Front knuckles with the bearings in the knuckle are a straight drop on DT02 and DT03, so you have more wheel choices now.

Bell crank steering is really great, even ballraced out of the box. Cures the DT03 weakness for braking the Servo saver horns.

And we got now a High torque servo saver horn on a std. old Tamiya servo saver, LOL.

Also the wheelbase mod in front is nice, depending on the needs.

Just through out the comical driver figure. But that´s my personal problem...

Good for beginners: No painting needed, No flimsy Lexan rear wing to kill within seconds...

Seems I´ll need one for fun, when the price drops over time...

Forgot the additional wishbone mounts in rear to alter the shock angle. Applies to DT02 and 03 too.;)
