Paint Problem

Hi, I am new to this forum. I need some help with a paint problem with the PS paint. After following all of the prep instructions ,I ended up with a lot of dark blotches. What is causing this?Thai happend after the first coat.

What prep did you do?

Was it cold when you sprayed?

Tamiya PS paint?

Assume you really shook the can up and it wasn't cold!

I don't think I've ever seen a reaction like that before 🤔

In the photo it looks like the shell is dirty on the outside. What colour paint is that?

I was thinking the same. That looks like it might be the outside?

Did all the prep as req.The hobby room was about 55Degrees Fahrenheit

Exactly what prep did you do?  And how did you paint it, what was the technique, how many coats does it have on it at the moment?

Without a detailed description of what you did it's hard for us to suggest where you may have gone wrong, if indeed you have and it's not just a faulty can of paint.

I washed with soap and water thoroughly, let dry overnight Sprayed one light coat out of can. Got this reaction immediately . Then put on another coat, figuring it would disappear, only got worse. the hobby room was about 55 degrees Farenhight

Apologies for dumb questions, but we’re debugging and sometimes it’s good to check everything. 
 

1. did you shake the can well?

2. Had the can been stored in this same room at 55F?

3. Did you spray the inside of the shell? 

4. How close to the shell was the nozzle?

Beginning to look like something wonky with the paint itself. The paint was stored in a warmer place than the hobby room?

Paint stored at room temp. I don't think that's the issue. Could the paint be defective?

Maybe a problem with the dishwashing soap? Maybe it had oil in it or something?   Otherwise a very old or defective can of paint.

Get a clear plastic bottle or something similar.  Go through the same steps and see what happens on that.

Just ordinary Dawn Liquid soap. Paint just purchased from hobby store week before.

If it comes out the same then chances are it's either the paint or something you're doing.  I'd get a new can of paint if you're reasonably certain you're doing things right.

Get some Tamiya polycarbonate body cleaner if you can.  That can be used to clean out the failed paint on the body.

I'm positive I have taken the right steps. Can I use rubbing alcohol to clean the body next time, if that is the problem?

I've never tried anything other than the Tamiya body cleaner so I couldn't say.

If you search the forum there's bound to be a few threads about other products people have used.

I suspect there was something on the inside that either the soap did not remove or was left behind by the soap. 

when using ordinary house hold cleaners to prep the body you have to be certain you’ve shifted all trace / residue as the stuff it can leave behind is probably worse than the gunk and release agent you are trying to remove.

Yep, I'm wondering if the soap wasn't washed off enough?  You don't mention rinsing the body thoroughly after washing it?

I’ve had this happen to me quite a few times, or looks like same that happens to me. Usually when I put in extra effort to clean and make sure not to touch the body without gloves so it comes out perfect. Based on where it happens, patterns, temps, etc, I’ve always assumed was caused by oils/residue from the soap that I didn’t get fully cleaned. Might just be me or the amount I use but I’m often annoyed with how much extra rinsing it takes to get dawn off my hands as it seems to take forever, but always forget this when using it to clean bodies. 
 

I doubt it’s the paint as I’ve had this happen then used same paint several times after without any issues. My paint is usually a mix of new to several years old and anything older goes through many large temp changes, only thing that’s been consistent when this happens is my prep/paint process.

Never hurts to test in small section but this is what I’ve done on last three I painted and came out perfect. Last few I’ve just taken the bodies out the box, thoroughly wiped them down with alcohol, let dry, mask off wearing gloves, and paint.
