Hello All,

Thanks for all the positive feed that has been posted about the last club 'Drive' weekend. Glad that most people found it worthwhile, despite the cold weather.

Already people have started to ask about the next one [8)] which is great even if it is a little daunting. Personally I think we should limit the 'big' events to just one or two a year, just to keep them as a bit 'special' and worth the effort to go to. That said, I also like the idea of lots of smaller ones in the gaps in between, to keep people meeting and driving. So this thought popped into my head...

Assuming we have one big one a year (probably in the middle of summer for obvious reasons) and because of the size assume lots of people will come, whereever it may be although we would try and get a very good site that can cater for loads of people. Then why not have several regional, smaller, more personal, easy to organise ones (no fighting over where it should be etc). Organised by areas 'Reps' of the club - but all happening on the same day - 'Live Aid' style!?!

The summer meet that Stu.B is organising could be the midlands one, and others could arrange one or two further south (or north) for others to attend.

My brain then kicks into over drive and thinks, why stop there? Why not have lots of regional ones in lots of countries at the same time? The club is global one after all, and I wouldn't want all the none uk members to feel left out. Even if its just a couple of members getting together to race scorchers in thier backyard. We all do it on the same day and we all take pictures and post them on the same day.

What do you think. Nothing to loose.

(Or maybe all the good will from the summer drive has gone to my head and I should go and lie down for a while, until I become bitter and synical again [;)])

Hey Chris,

I would like the proposed summer drive i'm talking about to be as far north as possible! I kinda prefer the idea of one big meet where you get a chance to get to know everyone rather than just those in your local area. I guess you folks in england are used to all things R/C car related being relatively near to you. Most of the guys here in Scotland are used to travelling long distaces to 'local' hobby stores and south of the border for decent R/C car copmetition.

I dont mind travelling down for a big meet. I would be a bit miffed if I help organise a meet and less people turn up because there is a meet nearer to them. I dont mind driving for 5 hours to get to the meet as it will be totally worthwhile.

The Live Aid idea is pretty cool but some areas would have bigger and better meets that others. Maybe a drive per country would be best. Understanably some countries are a little bit bigger than the UK! I just dont think the UK is big enough to split up into regional meets.

Make the effort!!! What is a 5 hour drive when it rewards you with a weekend of fun!

Hi Stu,

One of the problems you have about more frequent events are the fewer people will come to each, which is just the problem you are talking about. If they know there will be another one along soon, thats more convenient they will quite naturally go for that one.

While 'the main event' is a once/twice a year thing people know they have to make the effort to get there, as it will be big and the next one will be 6mths away.

Is this system not like most events or shows ( eg The Motor Show, Ideal Home Exhibition, the various Toy shows around the world?)

There is also the 'too much of a good thing' syndrome to watch out for

All that said, I don't want to put anyone off getting together as often as possible - its a real blast.

The World Drive Day is a slightly different thing though, its just about getting all our members out and driving, where ever they are. Its not about organising big events, with hundreds of people. Sure some groups will be bigger than others, but its not a competition. Just thought it would get everyone invovled

Cheers

Chris

Great idea Chris! I bet some of the other world wide TC members do feel a bit left out, Coz when they see these boards where always talking about meets over here!!

It's maybe one of the hardest things to do, organise even a simple meet, You will always have the problem of people with long drives & holidays etc. You've just gotta make the effort, Like Stu says "IT's well worth it in the end"

One thing to remember, You can't please everyone! Impossible!!

We've just all gotta make the effort [;)]

I for one don't mind a long drive (I did get a lift to Snett though[:I]Cheers Paul!)

I'd like to say one thing though, If it is far away, Got to be an over nighter![:D][;)]

Goodluck guys, If you want any help just shout.

Don't know about anyone else, But I'm always on the look out for possible venues.

Stu, Missed you at Snetterton mate!![V]

Take it easy,[;)]

Moosey.

I would love to see something here in the eastern US. So if somebody has the time to putsomething together it would be way cool. I would offer but I start a new full time job Monday so that counts me out.

Chris: Go lay down. I think I like you bitter and cynical better! [;)] <Kidding Mate!>

could be easy for me to put on a meeting, as apart from me there is only one other member in town here, and 1 new one joining soon...

I like the idea of a world day, make everyone feel part of the community.

only thing I can think of is that Summer in one part of the world is not Summer in another.......

but lets pick a date and go from there

One way to do it to attempt good weather worldwide would be to pick a date in september or march/april.

Some friends and I are building a track here in Oregon..(that's in the western USA, lads..)if we get it up and running in time...we would love to host a tamiyaclub sanctioned event...give all the folks out here with old or new tamiyas a place to run...I should think that for this day we would give a significant discount on track fees....[8D]

I like the idea of a "World Tamiyaclub day" ! [^] There is a nice racetrack near me, called the "Harburgring". Would be great to see

other german or international TC-members here. But it´s only On-road. If someone knew a nice Off-road track ? [:D]

Interested members can always contact me.
