Mazda 787B Group C 2025 Re-Release

Recommended Posts

Announced at Tamiya RC live (timestamp: 1:07:30)

My Japanese is very limited :D But from what I understand through translating the subtitles we will get another Group C car this year. It could be a Japan-only release (probably due to exclusive licensing deals?) but we will have to wait for the official announcement.

It was the same last time when they released it. Due to licensing with Renown, they can only do it in Japan, and also, the decals for the Renown portion would not be applied if it was a finished body again. From what I have heard, the Group C is seeing a big rebirth in Japan and why they are releasing and re-releasing so many of these kits lately. Very cool to see!

I would absolutely love a 787b. The shorter wheelbase compared to the C11 or XJR-12 would make it even more nimble in addition to being the best looker IMO.

It's great news to see another Group C rerelease, although I would prefer a Jaguar.

Besides, can slick tyres be mounted? I love the idea of a Group C chassis, but shy away from foam tyres for (on road) bashing.

EDIT: Thank you, @Superluminal!

Best,

Rookie Rabbit

Ive got one of the prepainted ones thankfully, i dread to think of the nightmare difficulty level in masking a clear one up!

Not on the stardard wheels and not without making some adaptions to get more modern narrower f1 type wheels to fit. Theres a very limited choice in rubber wide tyres and rims (f103/f104W)

Id be incljned to try it out on the foams - at least while spares are readilly avaiable

Well I wanted to visit Japan anyway, another good reason to do it this year!

So who in Japan is likely to have them for sale, and would be willing to ship to Europe (other than eBay)?

Does RCChamp still ship overseas?  It has been ages since I purchased a kit from them, but they used to do overseas.

I've just had a look and they have a note saying that they don't ship overseas.

My only hope at the moment is Plaza Japan (but they don't appear to stock all of the models so it is a bit of a gamble) or eBay. Visiting Japan again would be fun, but it's a long, expensive, journey just for the primary reason of buying a RC car kit :o

What a shame that Tamiya decided to exclude the rest of the world from enjoying this very welcome re-release. :/

I believe this changed years ago when Tamiya instituted a global pricing strategy. In the late 2000's to put it in context, I could buy a kit from RC Champ for less than I could buy one as a TamiyaUSA employee which was below cost. Tells you how bad it was. It's a shame to lose that option for kits like I assume this will be, but there are always ways to get it from Japan without going to Japan, or RC Champ.

Unfortunately not (yet) shown on the English website so it's not looking good for availability outside of Japan, but fingers crossed.

I'll speak to the Tamiya rep tomorrow to check if we're getting them in the UK. I'll get a firm yes or no tomorrow.

VERY interested in the 787 to go with the 956 and C11. For me, having it pre-painted is a welcome change, especially on something with so much room for error if painting myself. Hoping to get more info regarding US availability, or where we can snag one from Japan.

A Dutch shop advertises the Mazda for a future release so maybe it comes to the rest of the world.

I have just gotten the answer from T.
This will not be available outside their domestic (Japanese) market sadly due to some licensing issues.

This is a real pity indeed:unsure:

The Dutch shop deleted the pre-order. I think they realised that they will not get the kit.

Shame - they could always do a release in the blue and white livery as this only had Mazda markings and still looks pretty cool.

How do these Group C chassis cars compare on asphalt to car with independent suspension. I have a fairly well hopped up TA03R-S that is back on the road thanks to my kids finding it as my point of comparison, and it's got me back into this after 20+ years away. I love the 956 and this 787, but if it's a new car I'm buying I'd want something with a powerful brushless motor and a suspension that can keep up with it.

Personally I think a group c would struggle to keep up with a TA03RS in terms of handling and grip. The low ride height and foam tyres make them very sensitive to the conditions of the asphalt. To me group c are best on a perfectly flat surface that has no stones.
