I hope so for you guys in Europe. But if you are disappointed that it might be a Japan only version, well… I live her in Japan and I was prepared to order the 787b as it went on sale suddenly on Wednesday/Thursday but this thing sold out so fast, unbelievable.  Within hours all the normal RC car stores have been sold out. Freaking quick and meanwhile all preorders are closed. The Porsche 956 you could get for a couple of days and even on AZN. But not that one. Somehow I got luck and made it in on a waiting list, also closed now. Hope my slot is good enough, don’t know. I will keep you posted. Also I learned that in Europe the Porsche 956 is quite easy to get, not here. Only now on auctions for a decent price up. Tamiya played that well with the 956, stiring interest and people here discovered C cars again. As of now 956, C11 all sold out. Parts for chassis likewise. Parts situation is much better in Europa, e.g. Tamico where I ordered a spare body as there is no one - maybe yet - over here. So I hope they release the 787b in Europe and the the Jaguar, Lancia, Nissan u know… would be great.

Personally I think a group c would struggle to keep up with a TA03RS in terms of handling and grip. The low ride height and foam tyres make them very sensitive to the conditions of the asphalt. To me group c are best on a perfectly flat surface that has no stones.

Thanks guys. Shame, I love the bodies, but I have 0 access to smooth/prepped surfaces.

3-rotor engine my friend. Quite high revving, and very different than a traditional piston engine. Johnny Herbert swears he lost hearing from driving it in 1991, and track marshals said they could hear it coming a mile away. Spectators said they would be kept awake by the car at night. Awesome thing to behold.

If you're not stood on a wheelie bin at 4am drinking warm Kronenbourg and watching bikes or cars hammer through the pre dawn gloom, then you're not doing endurance racing spectating correctly...

It was not Johnny Herbert but his teammate Volker Wiedler that indeed suffered permanent hearing loss after doing a driving stint without his earplugs. It actually ended his driving career.

Some nice info can be found via the below link on Mazda's own website, including a more detailed overview of that engine...

And, of course, Evo never fails to deliver: Evo article

Pre-order placed

Now I just need to find someone to make the iconic 'pills on stalks' wingmirrors. I notice the Rlaarlo un-licensed 787 has wingmirrors in ABS plastic, but these don't appear to be available separately, only as part of a full body set. Shame!

Interesting. So you need to replace the diff with a spool to be historically correct. B)

It kind of won by happenstance.  They had new restrictions adding weight to all other group C cars except the Mazda.  Then everyone ahead of it broke down throughout the race.

The Mazda looks pretty small? Had it more weight than the others then?

The tiny displacement of the rotary exempted it.  Their unique 'displacement' doesn't translate to the same way as a piston 3.6L would.  This exemption was only for 1991 with no warning for the other teams to make any engineering adjustments other than to add weight.  Rotary engines were never competitive in Group C again.

I placed a pre-order from a Japanese shop, but even they're not entirely confident they'll end up with any due to how many Tamiya may/may not produce after the initial batch. I'll have a better idea at the end of March, so fingers crossed as I'd be thrilled to have one here in the states (that didn't cost me $800 on eBay).

A body and the stickers, and you can build this Mazda on a Group C chassie of choice then.

Edit - he sent me the YouTube link and it’s actually the other way around. Plot thickens

This is getting ridiculous.

Why on earth doesn't Tamiya put out a release explaining what's going on? I know that Tamiya has their own way of doing things, but the way this debacle has unfolded is bordering on unprofessional in my opinion.

Did anyone see the last 5 sec of the video? He states he’s heard the Astute is coming this year. I don't know of this channel (First I’ve seen of it) or how credible he is, but seems a bit connected
