Brushless Silver Can in the Mini16

Recommended Posts

There was a long quest to find a Brushless Silver can equivalate that doesn't break the bank I think I finally found it. It comes in a 380 sized can and has a built-In 30amp ESC @ 80amp burst and is 178grams lighter. Wanted a sensored brushless system, but they were always a little too powerful and expensive for the "good" ones. Was looking for Maintenace free /sealed motor that had a lot of adjustment and control. Plus, the extra run time is a nice and with it being 178 grams lighter i could use a bigger battery

1st throwing these in my GF-01 series, ORV series and TD2/TD4 chassis as this buggy is already too tail heavy with a 540sized motor and have a hard time fitting regular sized motors. Most Tamiya cars just don't need 540 sized brushless motors with how powerful they are. It's overkill

This unit has already been tested in crawlers up to 6lbs with no issues and if this unit is anything like its big brother than it punches well below its weight. It's spec'd for vehicles up to 4lbs, but probably handle more like 10 is my guess. It's marketed towards cralwers, but there is a bash option and these are used in Arrma groms a lot.

Need Hobbywing adapter plate and some Latrax 2.3 pinions or pinion sleeve adapters to run your current pinion.

Not sure I really follow, if you want silvercan performance, use a silvercan. They get great runtimes anyway.

Using a tiny motor in a vehicle way too big, just means you are running the motor hard and hot.

I have a Fusion SE in my GF-01tr, as a crawler.

Can't say I've ever found a brushless to be too powerful, you just match the motor turns with your performance and gearing goals.

Silvercans are kinda heavy for what they are and require cleaning now and again or replacement all of which i'm trying to avoid. Also sealed brushless can run in all conditions and I live in what is the Alaska Equivalent in the lower 48(U.P. of MI)...things get messy! It's just nice finally having a sensored brushless option that has the same feel as a silvercan, but can also be geared for more speed if needed. Working great in the ole blackfoot!

Plus being a 2n1 i don't have to find a place to mount an ESC, which in the case of the TD2/TD4 can be a real problem.

There are no good 540 brushless systems that are cheap and not overkill for alot of my Tamiya kits and it being 178grams lighter be of help in a lot of situations.

And the beauty of the brushless is although it's small its mighty as seen in the videos linked. I think heat would be a concern is a rig above 4lbs that you run in grass and a fan should take care of that and having thermal protection is nice. It's the Fusion Pro system in a smaller package.

Also there are plenty Amazon "540" sized brushless motors that actually have 380 internals.

I have 9 Fusion SE systems, and they are really good!...but overkill in most situations. The Crawler Caynon video above kinda proves this.  youtube.com/watch?v=YF2Dod0q0zE

The improved efficiency in brushless means they often run cooler. I have 20mm motors in my QDs which give huge power and barely get hot.

I've got an MF01x and this could be a good option to balance out the weight.

I thought about this earlier but always decided against it thinking 1/10 th scale would be too heavy but now with the 380 revival and your post one of these is on its way to me.

Ideally I'd like to try this out in several chassis,  from my Grasshopper EVO to my group c and some M sized in between. Sounds like a fun experiment.

Go for it in the Grasshopper Evo. Even here this is not that costy- but still 2x the price if a 380ST and a 1060.

I have some 380ST and brushed ESC's to put in the same chassis and compare performace with the Fusion Mini. Really curious about that.

Cool. I'm curious too.

BTW I saw the full 53 min of healthy RC Racing the other day and saw a Dynemaster there. It looked really nice and planted. The Fusion Mini could maybe be something for your Dirt Master when you build it.

The combination of a shorty pack as far up front as possible and less weight of the motor in the back might be a real performance booster for buggy's like the EVO and Dirtmaster that have typically a lot of weight all the way in the back.

It's a sensored brushless motor as well and has an incredible amount of software tuning options being that is a pro version.

So far i have it in blackfoot, Element crawler and Arrma Grom! I'm using the fan option below for my element

This is truly amazing.

It is tiny. You can use the program card to get the settings how you want them. You can even set the drag brake from your transmitter while you're driving :o

It got the esc in there and it's not even as big as a regular 380...

Sweet! Smaller than a 380, but more powerful than most 540s. These hobbywing FOC 2n1s are some type of black magic:)
