I was wondering if any other club memebers were planning a trip to the Eastnor Model & Hobbies Spectacular at Eastnoe castle on 19th and 20th of July

It's been quite heavily advertised in Radio Race Car magazine (as their publishing group is the ones behind the orginisation of the event) and there is a website for the event at http://www.traplet.com/eastnor

Me and my pal Richard are going to pay it a visit, but I wanted to know if any other Members where similarly inclined, it seems to be an anual event, I know they had one last year and I was planning on going to that one too, but then the first Clumber park event came into being and I went to that instead, but has anyone else been to any of the previous Eastnor event and can give us an Idea as to what it was like?

I reckon this even would be an excellent oppertunity for Tamiyaclub to set up somekind of stand so they could display cars from some of the memebers and maybe even set up some kind of Vintage demostration track? I know that may be asking a lot, but it's worth a shot atlest, weve left the preperations a but late to be doing the event this year but perhaps something could be set up for next year? who knows :)

I might pop along - they have a two day RC car boot sale, which is supposed to be quite good.

I actually booked and paid for a table last year but at the very last minute I had to pull out I think APCR went though and bagged himself a Super champ I think.

Hey chap's,

I would like to go but it's quiet a distance so i'm not sure yet.

It would be good if a load off us went down and made a weekend of it.

I think I might have to go tot that as it's within an hours drive from Cardiff.Had a quick look at the website which gives quite a lot of info.Has anyone been before? Any good? £7 does seem a bit step though.

Hi All,

I will try to be there. I will have to ask my grandparents to take me though, I am visiting them. I understand there is a used R/C boot fair, Anyone know if it is any good?. I think we should add a list of people who will go and maybe set up a spot where we can all meet.

I agree with Tamiya 01478,we should try to arrange some sort of meeting/gathering of TamiyaClub members at some time at the event so that we can put faces to names. Also it might help some people to get there if lifts or shared driving can be arranged. If anybody lives near Cardiff I'm quite happy to arrange to give someone a lift.

Roop and myself will probably be there as its 10 mins from where we are.

Will know nearer the time. Be good to meet up with some other TC members.

I'm going - just booked a tent site today, and was told that it would be in the overspill area cos the main campsite is fully booked, so it sounds like it's popular. Should be a good couple of days, and it would be interesting to meet up with the Tamiya Club regulars, as we are new to this (well, my lads are, I'm currently firing up my second childhood [:)]

Hi all,

Yes, as Chris said I did go last year and manged to pick up a Super Champ. It is geared mainly toward aircraft but we pitched a tent and had a good weekend. Sadly I can't make it this year due to work. It's worth a visit and I think they have a round of one of the car race series there. If you go enjoy. If your looking for a meeting point there will be a commentators hut in the middle of the flightline. As good a point as any. Camp site was packed last year, has water on site and portacabin toilets.

Hi all,

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Eastnor Show, but if you’re into anything RC related, it’s well worth a visit.

The actual car racing is two organised rounds of the ‘Nitrux’ series (Sat-Sun). Noisy, smelly, Nitro burnin classes only [:P] consisting of 1/10th trucks, 1/8th RallyX and Monster trucks.

Anyway, I have a couple of spare tickets going to whoever can use them, that will admit one person per ticket into the show on both days. Mail me your addy if you can use them, and they’re yours.

I’ll be racing RallyX both days, so come and say hi if your there… (tall, middle aged, grey haired git, with an ever increasing beer belly) or so I’ve been told! [xx(]

hey steve i would like some info if you can spare it. my email is joshua.thompson@mildenhall.af.mil how far away is it from me in east anglia? new market/cambridge/snetterton area?

WOW seems kind of far for me. Dang!!! Is there anyone from East Anglia going? I would like to hitch a ride if possible. Lets car pool.[:o)]

It is a long way, I'm going from Essex, but I'm afraid there won't be room in my car, as it's gonna be full of kids and tents [B)] It's about a 3-4 hour drive for me, which is why I decided to camp, didn't fancy 8+ hours of driving on the same day!

What about the train? Though you would probably have to go into London and then out of London again, which is a PITA.

Me and a friend went over to the Eastnor castle event this morning, I have to say that for a TC member it was pretty dissapointing :(

there was hardly anything Tamiya for sale and any of the stalls, what Car that were on sale were mostly current Kyosho cars and many unheard of branded Nitro Buggy, Trucks and touring cars.

there was an RC track set up, but that was pretty much for Nitro Trucks and buggies only and as I don't Do nitro, of little interest to me, there was other stuff going on though, there were flying displays with planes and Helicopters, and a load of boats floating about the nearby lake, there was also a small classic car show and a few Traction engines, but apart from that the actual market wasn't very big with a few stalls, mstly catering for the Aircraft fraternity.

I took £200 with the hope of getting lucky, the Only Tamiya Off-roaders I saw were a QD Manta Ray (which my friend bought £15) and a Bearhawk that was painted every colour of the rainbow and had the whole chassis painted PURPLE, it was with Radio, battery and Charger but the guy wanted £60 which was way too much for such a piece of junk, I did actually manage to find something though, I picked up a Tenth Technology Streetwise (Ford F-150 stadium racer) MIB for £95 which is quite interesting, and I also bought a cheap and nasty 40Mhz Radio set and a Ripmax X'Tra (NO LIMIT) ESC to go with it.

still I was more that a little dissapointed with the event, and won't be atending next year unless TamiyaClub manage to get some sort of a stand set up, there is more than enough room and it would fill a void in the proceedings, perhaps the club could set up a display of Vintage RC models, say the 1st 100 cars would be good :) then perhaps we could arrange some track time and race certail classes of cars like 4WD/2WD or wild willys :)

there is scope for TC to attent this event, perhaps the club could look into it next year :)

id="quote">id="quote"> I spotted that Bearhawk, I couldn't believe what the guy was asking for it, it was probably worth a fiver for the car tops, bald tyres, deeply gouged underchassis, bearings worn completely, and a paint job from badword (or perhaps it was modern art). Still, at least it showed that the Tamiya's can handle a rough life and still go on running!

I agree with that, a stand with all the old Tamiya cars would be good, and racing could be arranged by Tamiya Club.

The car racing was good, but it would have been nice if they had added some electric classes to the racing rather than just nitro.

I enjoyed it though, had a good weekend camping away from the wife and little kids, so not all bad [;)] I wonder if there's any similar events (with camping facilities) which include the electric cars though, it seems that nitro is the current flavour of the moment. Having seen a couple of people who had bought nitros at the show, trying to get/keep them running, I decided that I prefer electric at the moment anyway, much less hassle!

I agree with you on the Nitro Issue Jozza [;)]

I don't care much for Nitro/Gas/IC cars at all, and no disrespects to any Nitro owners but in my opinion there are 5 things wrong with Nitro cars... Expensive, Noisey, Smelly, Dirty and Unreliable some ppl will argue that Nitro's go faster and have much longer running times, which to some extent is true, but for me the con's far outwiegh the Pro's on this issue

but then again with a good set of 3300Mha NiMh batteries and a suitably Hot motor (10-11Tx3) then any EP car could easily match a Nitro for pace and endurance.

so whats the big deal with buying Nitro??

Posted

LOL - "Noisey, Smelly, Dirty" I'd say they were three plus points.[:)]

I drive both electric and nitro and enjoy both. Electric are simple and easy to run and the nitro are just a complete rush to drive, regardless of wether they go faster or not, they just 'feel' faster. The sound is just the icing on the cake, comparatively speaking, they roar into life, you hear them change gear and then when they rev out while in mid air its just great. I don't think reliability is an issue with modern models, although maintenance is. If you look after them right then you have no problems at all.

For me nitro is a little less nostalgia about my playing with my toy rc's and a little more nostalgia about when I started messing with real cars, trying to get them to go faster and sound a little bit meatier than they really were [;)]

Still each to thier own. Maybe this would be a good debate to pick up in the 'General Discussion' forum?

Cheers

I can certainly see where the charm lies in nitro cars, the noise and smell is certainly nice, but they do require a lot more TLC to keep them running, and for me the electric ones win because I don't have the time to tinker, I need something I can charge up, switch on and run.

However, if I win one of the nitro's they had in the free draw at Eastnor, I might change my mind [:P]
