I have a TT02 with a high speed gear set, adjustable motor mount and a 29t pinion. It's pretty quick as it is now but I want a motor with a bit more punch. Any recommendations?

The kit supplied torque tuned motor is what's currently in there.

There are loads of motors that can out-perform a Torque Tuned. Some may be beyond the scope of your ESC and/or battery though. What are you running at the moment, and do you want to upgrade them too, or just the motor at this point?

I will do the whole package sir. Its currently running a hobbywing esc and a fly sky receiver. NIMH powered.

You should switch to LiPo at the same time, another boost in performance.

Yea I'd go LiPo before I mess with the motor and speedo. The increase in performance with that alone is impressive. Late if you add the brushless you'd need the Lipo anyway. The TT-02 on a Torque Tuned motor on 2C Lipo is a very fun and lively little machine.

Looks like another expensive little project as I use spektrum (idiot proof) lipos. They're all EC3/IC3 connectors so would need the esc to have those as well.

You're better off breaking the dependence on Spektrum sooner rather than later. That connector is an excuse to charge a premium for very average batteries and electronics. Much better to get onto generic connectors (XT60) and have the full range of equipment available to you.

Spektrum LiPos work the same as all others, I wouldn't treat them as any more idiot proof.

XT60 on the ESC is good connector and you can actually plug an EC3 battery into an XT60, so gives even more flexibility.

As for more punch, what sort of Tt-02? Buggy. quadtrack, touring car, etc?

What sort of use? Bashing or Racing?

Lots and lots of options.

Do you have a budget in mind?

Going down the brushless route would give you a performance and efficiency boost, but if you are looking for performance and don't mind the inefficiencies of brushed motors, something like this would work with your existing ESC and give a huge performance increase over a Torque Tuned:

The build quality of LRP brushed motors is very good, a lot better than the generic Chinese things sold under brands such as Etronix, Core RC, Surpass, Absima, etc, but they are generally more affordable than Tamiya's own range of open endbell brushed motors.

Deans if you're in the UK, much better choice of lipos.

I am in the UK and XT60 is the new standard, it's a superior connector, Deans have had their day.

Want more punch? Same motor with a much smaller pinion is what you need... I have a TT-02 with a torque tuned and I use the kit supplied steel pinion... 17 teeth. I actually find it very punchy for what it is.

Agree. And Not even new, well over a decade or more for XT60 and I've not normally had an issue buying LiPos or ESCs with XT60 pre-fitted. And if not, its always easy to swap over with a soldering iron.

That will trade top speed for acceleration though. Depending on what the op is doing, this might not be the best option.

The word "punch" led me to believe the op wanted more acceleration? Not sure. My point was, you can take any motor on the market and gear it high enough that it'll feel very slow and disappointing. 64/29 on a torque tuned is just... Something you would only use if you were trying for a speed run. And even then that's really tall gearing.

We run 25 tooth pinion on the torque tuned motor spec class.  Since you have the high speed gearset, you can try brushless.  17.5 will have a lot more performance, but will need to get a smaller spur gear and experiment with pinions.  Probably t want like 5:1 final drive ratio.

A Traxxas Titan 12T is a good budget option.  They’re cheaper than dirt and really shove the TT02 around.

I would agree, but 12T Titan motors have trouble fitting into TT02s. Compared to most brushed motors they have abnormally long motor shafts.

After keep getting told this, I tried , and once I got them not to melt, found them too bulky, and wasn't worth the effort to swap my fleet.

On the modelsport site for 2s lipo , 47 deans options, 17 for XT60

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/electric/batteries/74v-2s/76v-2s-lihv?

I've run deans upto 5s, and that's when they got a bit troubled, where i really needed an anti spark.
