Pukka Parts Super SRB Build for Las Vegas Vintage Race

With the announcement of the Team Associated Vintage Off Road Championship in Las Vegas, there finally is a vintage event I can drive to! As my introduction to RC was a Sand Scorcher in the early 1980s, the early 2wd class had to be one of my entries.  Time to break out the Pukka Parts Super SRB kit I've had for a while and try and turn it into something close to the pictures from their Facebook page. My only RC racing experience is on road where I race all Tamiya, all of the time (I'm @tamiyaracingfan on insta) so this is going to be an adventure.

My first build thread so fingers crossed.

Some progress with the initial assembly.

Need to find some gears/lay shafts for the gearbox.  I have a Ball diff to try.  Also need to source some shocks of the correct lengths.

Looks like a really well thought out chassis. I've recently attended a two day vintage meeting as was surprised at the huge number of vehicles that were using modern built chassis, shock towers and transmissions etc... Is this with in the rules of the SRB class?

Classes are grouped by year - this would fall into the earliest 2wd class.  Team Associated are using the rules/classes from the Iconic Revival in the UK which allow for a Super SRB.

Hi,

In the past I ran for 2 consecutive years my Super Champ Re-re in a 540 friendly vintage class (was good fun). 2 times in a row, the front wheel-axles (which are press-fit) came off. If you use Re-re wheel-axles, I'd suggest to reinforce the press-fit assembly with an extra M3 screw, like on the picture below :)

I made this mod with a lathe (was quite easy with such a tool), but with some skills, good drill & tap, it should be doable without too much trouble.

I heard about this and have been picking up OG front knuckles here and there.  LMK if you need one.

Thanks - waiting on more parts to arrive.  Time to do a little work on the spare car for this class.

Thanks for the tip - I think this is beyond my skill set and I don't have a lathe. I think I have some original front axles somewhere.

Gearbox parts arrived so built the diff but couldn't complete anything as the counter gear shaft is too long <_<

Cut the idler gear shaft to length and was able to install the gear box.

Spacers to widen the front end are coming from Pukka Parts, then it will be front end and steering set up.
