Some hilarious comments in this thread, Made my lunchbreak. Thanks for that!

I find Scale Builders Guild youtube is the most inovative and inspiring in my opnion if you want true quality rc building, running, etc.
It´s a specific niche genre he´s into but the precision, experimentation and passion can be applied to any project and hobby really.

Personally, I find that many channels yapping too much, be it RC Kicks or even some of the recommended channels here. I want to know about the kit/car, not listen to irrelevant nonsense, like the weather or whatever. The worst is a channel that I will not name where it sounds just like 2 boyfriends yapping away endlessly. Being a static modeller, I really like those channels that do not show the person at all, just speech, or, the best are no speech at all when a technique is demonstrated. Some screen over text to let me know the details will be enough. No arms flapping to annoy me.

I find unboxing videos completely useless.  Ooo here is a plastic parts tree inside a plastic bag.  Oh look, here is another one.

Or them building at 25X speed. Ridiculous.

One of the ones I used to watch was RCMojo but he stopped making vids a year or so ago. He did real time build videos of a wide variety of kits and had a very relaxing voice and just generally seemed like a nice chap. Great viewing when wanting to nod off but very compelling at the same time.

I quite like the Hearns hobby shop ones too.

Just finished reading throughout the thread, and inevitably this comes to mind: I am ever so grateful we have TamiyaClub. No nonsense or attitude, just some awesome folks that are humble, talented and like minded👌

99% of the time they are. However I do look for unboxing videos very occasionally as I want to know if something is specifically in the box or not. This applies to products even other than models.

For static kits, there is nothing as good as Plasmo. He is a genius! And he did a rather nice job with a 1/10 Tamiya Subaru too when he delved into RC. I always get a sense of immense calm and wellbeing watching him work.

I like many of the other channels noted here. Tomley RC, Mark Bryan, Matteo, Pete Wylie, Popalong.

I watch them all for different reasons. Sometimes I just want to be entertained, sometimes I want to see what's inside the box. And sometimes I'm looking for building tips, or running montages. For the last one, I want to see what the racing scene is like in the UK (even though I'm in the US).

All of them offer their unique perspectives and viewpoints of this niche hobby we all love (especially Tamiya RCs). There's no reason to always watch the entirety of their videos, although I'm sure it does help, so often on a drive, I'll just let one of their videos play to the end.

As far as Kevin Talbot. He's made it big. Just not my cup of tea, but I respect all that he is put in to make his channel as big as it is. Just from the (2 or 3? years ago) UK RC Youtuber race with TT02s, he seemed like a fairly good guy and racer. I'll watch him to see some insane stunts and live vicariously through him (because I would never run my RCs like he can off ramps "sending them to the moon").

For Tomley, I really like his boyish enthusiasm about everything. Just super cool, chill, laid back, and has a positive outlook on things. He covers lots and lots of stuff and is not shy about saying good or bad things about the things he puts to the test. Not to mention he got to go to Nuremberg through an invite from Tamiya. How many RC Youtubers can say that?

I had to Google it to try and understand why?....People wave their hands around while talking, also known as gesturing, to emphasize points, keep their audience engaged, appear more expressive, and generally enhance their communication by adding visual cues that complement their spoken words; essentially acting as a natural way to add emphasis and clarity to what they're saying.

Key points about hand gestures while speaking:
  • Emphasis:
Hand movements can highlight important parts of a conversation, drawing attention to key ideas.

  • Engagement:
Gestures can keep the listener focused and actively involved in the conversation.

  • Emotional expression:
Hand movements can convey emotions and add passion to a speech.

  • Cognitive processing:
Studies suggest that gesturing can aid in our own thought process while speaking, helping us formulate ideas.

  • Cultural influence:
Different cultures have varying norms around hand gestures, with some using them more prominently than others.

And the last one is .

Confuse and irritate the deaf community by making them think you are addressing them, but you either have dementia,  schizophrenia, catching invisible flying objects are illiterate,  a fake sign language translator or all of the above.

I used to look for unboxing videos for kits, but I find manuals much more useful and less annoying to access.

RTR unboxings are basically pointless:

"WHUZZUP GUYS! WE GOT THE ALL NEW MINI UDR! Here's the rig! Heres a bag of stickers and a parts tree! Here's a decrepit wall charger! Now watch me chase it with a selfie stick! If you like this video click this thing and give me your money!"

@naturbo2000 Thanks for your help. I’m glad to have got this resolved and keen to put it behind me.

I had already asked for this thread to be closed as I have made my frustration known and I don’t see the need to prolong this any further.

I will be more careful what I say in the future though! It’s just RC cars after all.

Well, I thought this was all over but I have one final update.

I was reinstated to his Facebook page but, presumably, at that point Gavin was unaware of this thread.

He clearly then found it, sent me a snotty email and then, subsequently but not immediately, banned me from his Facebook page again.

Gavin, if you're reading this, I wish you all the best for your venture. There are plenty of other places I can get my content from, from people who don't ban their followers for no reason and expect them to stay silent, and then throw their toys out of the cot when they tell people the truth of what you're doing behind closed doors.

What odd behaviour. Hobbies are supposed to be stress free. Sounds like you're better off without facebook groups.

This is slightly disappointing, not overly surprising and another reminder that these people are paid to influence our decisions while doing their best to appear as if this is their passion over their job. It could have been handled from a different angle but this is the way he’s chosen.

Me neither, I miss out on a lot of cool stuff because of it but it’s far from all good on that mess.

Edit: I wonder how he would act if a sponsor or manufacturer did this to him, would he make a vid on it or keep quiet🤔

I told you, he's a funny guy😅 Very defensive and passionate😅I would have uploaded the email personally if there was nothing to hide 😅 As long as you haven't been nasty or aggressive or whatever, then it just paints him in more of a bad light😅 That's how i take arguments or fall outs anyway, as long as you weren't the one to then start making it personal or start adding insults or "witty retorts", you've come off as the better being. We just have to wait for the inevitable video now about how he is the best at annoying Tamiya Fans, or the little dig at TamiyaClub. I believe he did this to another group on Facebook who basically proved him wrong about racing Tamiyas, and he said he was their Number 1 hater and he enjoyed annoying FanBoys😅 Nothing like bringing a RC Community together than taking the mickey out of them 😅

Following these revelations, I have unsubscribed from his channel. There are plenty of content creators who don't play such games with their supporters, and they are far more deserving of the £0.00000001 they get from me watching their monetised content. 😀

Would like to see this email and the proof of being banned. Don't get offended, but I'm a skeptic and so far the thread has been one sided without enough evidence. If it's all true, then that's a bummer, but another reason not to be on Facebook.

I agree that it's one-sided but that's part of the problem - I've no issue if Gavin wants to come here and tell his side of the story; maybe then I will also find out what's really going on.

Proof that I was banned was posted (by the kind person who helped to get me temporarily un-banned) earlier in this thread. It confirms that my ban was, initially, lifted so by correlation that confirms that I had been banned. I agree that there is no evidence of why I was initially banned but, quite honestly, even I don't really know so I can't tell you. I am not going to post the private emails or PMs that have been sent to me as they are private and, even if I did, a skeptic could say I just made them up. I'm more than happy if Gavin wants to come here and post his email himself.

I'm not going to drag this out any further. I had put all this behind me and wasn't going to post anything else until he banned me again. (Quite honestly, I understand that he might want to ban me after I started this thread but it should never have got to this). It has now become a soap opera and not what I ever intended or wanted - I just want to get back to messing around with RC cars.

For those talking about protecting his brand, I completely agree, but even now I still don't know what I did or said that upset him. I am also a Facebook moderator for a commercial model company and the only people I ban outright are fraudsters (primarily those selling T-shirts!). If someone else posts something I don't like then I can do all sorts of things before it gets to that stage - primarily, he could have warned me or, at least, replied to my email.

And for those unsubscribing from his channel as a result of this thread, there is no need to do that unless you want to. I was prepared to sit in the background and watch his content (without engaging or commenting any more), as I did find some of his information useful, but I clearly can't do that now. The issue only appears to arise (although I'm only guessing as I don't know for sure) if you say something that he doesn't like.

Anyway, let's forget all this and talk about Tamiya!
