Hello, all. ^_^

Didn't quite know where to put this, but I figured this was the most appropriate place! I've been a long-time member of the MSUK Forum, where I go by the profile name "PraetoR" (Starcraft reference and my old online gaming name). However, being a big fan of Tamiya, I thought I'd also join this forum.

My name's Mike, I'm Scottish, live in Stirlingshire and am big into cars, bikes, boats (anything with an engine), motorsport, BBQs, rock music, fishing, hiking, single malt Scotch Whisky and The Legend of Zelda. I also like buying T-shirts with motorbikes on them.

I run a small youtube channel (just over 4000 subs) called "The RC Scotsman", although, I don't upload as much as I'd like, as it's difficult to fit that into a busy life!

Current RC car collection comprises 20 hobby-grade models (6 of which are Tamiyas), a display chassis (TT-02 White Special), a couple of toy-grades and two Tamiya Mini 4WD cars. I also race GT12 (Schumacher Atom 2).

My TT-01 Type-E was the Ring Bearer at my wedding! The bodyshell is a replica of my pride and joy: a silver Mercedes 190e 2.5-16 "Cosworth". The bodyshell features the correct colour grill, stickers taken from photos of the real badges, a metal exhaust, a smaller spoiler (shell has the big "Evo 2" wing, as standard) and the correct number plates.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all!

Cheers! :D

Welcome to the forum Mike. I found your channel fairly recently and thought it was worth bringing to peoples attention. I love the style and varying format. Some of the first videos of yours I watched were the build video and run video of the Dancing Rider. The joy you expressed with such a simple but fun RC was refreshing to watch and I couldnt resist getting my own little Dancing Rider after that (Its waiting in my build queue). I have started watching all the videos from the very start and am currently at 7 years ago. Just the other night I watched "Tamiya Lunch Box: Cr*p... and yet... awesome! The lighter side of RC". Just watching 2 mates with basic RC vehicles having a right laugh is a great watch.

YAAAAS!

Thank you very much. And thanks for the kind words, both here and on the other thread.

Yeah, the Dancing Rider is great! And so is the Lunch Box. ^_^

We forgot to brief the photographer, so he was late to bring his lens to bear.   This is the only shot we have on the day.

I was late getting it ready too - I'd planned to use a different truck but a week before my future-wife said "that's ugly!" - so I had to rapidly cobble this one together.  It uses aftermarket chassis rails, a Traxxas Stampede transmission and TLT axles.  On the day, the shocks had no oil in them, it was RWD only, and the propshaft was a piece of solid brass rod between two metal UJs, so the rear suspension was locked out.

Also since none of the guests knew it was happening, it spent the entire morning switched on under a table behind the tablecloth at the back of the venue.  The transmitter was hidden in a closet.  I was terrified the battery would dump after being left on for so long, and the "top secret driver" (who was neither me nor best man) would have to crawl around under the table to dig the rings out and deliver them by hand.

Hey, as long as you managed to pull it off, that's all that matters! None of my guests knew, either. The reaction was great.

Welcome @Mikey P

We're in the same neck of the woods (central), i work near Stirling!!

Most of us are 1:1 car guys too (my project is in this section, 'full scale car projects? ') , goto a few meets, but usually the 'Gas Guzzlers'.

There's a few clubs nearby (ish), which I've listed in this thread, Glasgow (my club) and Dunfermline are Off-Road, Lothian On-Road (guessing that's where you race the GT12?) and Ayr has carpet track for both.

Thanking you! Small world, eh?

Cool, cool. Love me some car meetings. Always great fun!

Nice, I'll take a look at the clubs. Dunfermline is where I used to race TC (Lochgelly), but, yeah, Lothian is where I race GT12.

Absolutely!!

@neowhizz helps run the club at Ayr (although, looks to have been 2019 since he's been on here..), and he trys to run vintage/tamiya days there.

Winter isn't too blessed, but the Paisley Breakfast club meet regularly at the Mirren Football ground, next is the 6th April. The Gas Guzzlers usually have a monthly meet at the Harley Davidson showroom at Hillington of a Wednesday night, with a live rock band, burger van etc, and if the weather gods are favourable, a cracking meet.

Dunfirmline isn't a BRCA registered club anymore and following their own path..., but their new off road Astro track looks awesome, and planning on getting over for a meeting, when I can!!

I went for a visit a few months back!

Someone messaged the Glasgow club on FB (I'm admin) wanting to run vintage/Tamiya on the Glasgow Astro. Turned out he lived a few streets away, and our kids are at the same school (small world..). Great for stealth parts selling/ purchasing 🙄😁.

He races there, and was trying to get me into 2D /flat earth / GT12 racing, but it's not for me (but have bought an M05 to run at Ayr...maybe 🤣

OK, well that just sounds like the best day out!

Yeah, I'd also like to go over there and try their new astro track. Even just bring my old, low-spec buggy, just for a go.

I'd always wanted to check-out Ayr. I heard rumours they still ran TC, but then I heard that part had also died. Can't find anywhere to run TC, nowadays. Well... apart from Stonehaven.

Keep throwing it out there at my Glasgow club (Calderglen Country Park) to run on our Astro, but doesn't seem a great deal of interest tbh..

They run alot of Mini's, not sure about the TC scene tbh, but I'll ask for you.

Here's a vid of some last night's running taken by @neowhizz
