If you would have to decide between these two speed controllers named in the topic, which one would you pick and why?

Assumed that you only use 540 silver cans and 540 Torque Tuned motors (and maybe a 540 Sport Tuned).

I have a few of each laying around but want to reduce that variety to one model and get rid of the others… I am just a freak who loves consistency in life, I guess. 😂

Oh and btw, I have a Blitzer Beetle NIB… I think it could be fun to go nuts with Brushless, which would a good use case for the TLBE-02S – but I am also willing to buy a combo then.

Thanks for your opinions! 🎉

The TBLE-02S are known for going pop!

I had two go in different ways, one wouldn’t take programming and the other had the BEC blow on a small servo so I’d say anything else is probably better.

For brushed, the Carson Dragster because of the pxxx weak BEC on the TBLE.

However be warned that the Dragster is not a HW1060 and is not really waterproof. I had 2 that blew up after being wet and when I took one apart, it was quite clear it was water damaged.

For brushless, you can use the TBLE, but will probably need a UBEC unless you are using some weak servo.

Thanks a lot for your opinions! 😊

I will keep the Carson Dragster and get rid of the TLBE-02S models. I am not a Carson fan, but in that case, the Carson model seems to be the better choice. ;) And as I have to purchase a sensor cable to use the TBLE-02S in Brushless mode anyway, I would directly go with a better speed controller in that case…

I know that the Carson Dragster ist not a Hobbywing 1060, but as far as I know, the Tamiya THW-1060 is one. 😊 I had a good surprise yesterday, as one of my two kits contained this speed controller – which is my favorite for brushed motors.

Sorry to jump on the end of this ..but I found a Carson drag in one the box kits I fitted to another runner .but can't get it to link up ...

Are they just plug and play or like the tamiya set up way .

The led flashing  but nothing happening ..it is running on vintage 27h set up ...

Then it's one of two (or both) things that can cause this:

1) The vintage stuff was differently pinned. When I started with my Grasshornet in 2020 I used my old radiogear and had to repin the connector for the ESC. If you run a vintage servo just copy the way it's pinned.

2) Your vintage RX doesn't have a built in BEC. In the beginning I used a battery pack from my glow buggy to power the radiogear. Later I fitted a UBEC as in the pic and has left it in after I converted to modern radiogear (which is not needed now and overkill for the humble Futaba 3001 servo).

Both have BECs. I've run (several 100kms) the living snot out of a Hotshot + TLBE-02S + Sport Tuned + cheap servo

Never had a problem with the electronics. Mud, snow, grass, coarse gravel, tarmac heat, running 5-6 packs (NiMH only) a day) .. No sweat :P

But I have replaced like five or six front arms and knuckles over the years

About to make another car with the Carson Dragster ESC. Thanks to Alvin's PSA I'm definitely going to seal that sucker up and put it a protective cover :D

I think I read it's a HW1060 clone, but NOT an actual HW product like the one used by Tamiya now

Cheers,

Ole

Ok ..all the furaba and acoms boxes have the BEC  logo on so thought that was fitted ....unless they too fault ..will swap a few around and see how it goes ..

it was running on an old 101 ..but if out about 2ft lost control so first swapped  box out then could not get it to join up signal ..so that's when I tried the Carson....

Omg the price now on ESC  may as well get full new controler set ...lol

Then check the colors on the wiring and their position. Compare the servo to the new ESC. As said vintage radiogear was differently pinned.

Unfortunately I don't have easy access to my old stuff ATM,  otherwise I would have taken a pic of it.

Hang on, do you feed your 27 RX with a battery box? If yes, you need to disconnect the red wire from the modern ESC. If not, something can fry. And since all modern ESC have BEC, battery boxes are no longer required.

@alvinlwh I  am the one bringing battery box/pack up , based on my experience from when I was using my old radiogear. I then had one TEU-105 and two TBLE02S refusing to work without a battery connected to them. I think the OP has left that out.

I later got one TBLM02S that worked as it should and all 1060 has worked as they should without any fuzz.

Good you mention that the red wire from the ESC has to be disconnected. I forgot that, but remember now doing that (after reading it here before I signed up) and is as you say important.

No battery box connected

cable colours are the same way as the servo and esc ..

Aa like you. will have to get pics as working blind don't help ..just strange it all started from a weak /short signal what i put down to poor reciver..

TEU-105

The 105 should work as it has a BEC. However it is p-weak at just 6V/1A.

TBLE02S

The TBLEs are still a joke, 5V/1.5A, I only use them in very low end cars with equally low end servos.

I actually quite like the 101 and 104 which don't have a BEC. Their red cable is meant to go into a BEC RX, extremely rare these days. The only one I found is the Carson 500501535.

What I do instead is to connect the red cable to a RX that can take full fat lipo power and use a HV servo. Just waterproof them, and they worked very well for a basher in all environments that needs HV servos.

I know, but still only got beeping and blinking. Put on my old and not so longer good 5 cell Sanyo from my Burns and tadaa; it worked. Think I have just been unlucky with my Tamiya ESC's for the most.

This what i removed ..fully working in a bench test ..but soon as you step back few feet it lost signal ..

Just notice this rec does not have bec but it worked with the teu 101 ..

The steering servo name says

Standard HI TEC ...HS 311

ah right just looking the rec and found it has power wire that takes power from the 101 ....so that's the one problem sorted ..and but why the 101 won't power the futaba FP-R-102gr.

Do now removed the Carson and replace with a HW 1060  and all working ...so no idea why Carson won't work or set up
