what's the difference? TA02T vs TA02

Recommended Posts

For some reason I always thought the TA02T had longer arms to give a wider track/more ground clearance, but muddling through a few manuals I'm not seeing a difference.

The fact the colour of the parts is different (blue rather than red) for the T makes identification more difficult, but looking at pictures side by side, everything looks the same.

So when comparing say the Toyota Prerunner or Chevy C10 (a TA01/2?) vs the Ford F150 (TA02T) what really is the difference?

Can anyone help please? :)

Thanks!

As far as I am aware, all the TA02-based trucks were TA02T - so the Chevy, Prerunner and Ford are all the same chassis underneath.  I could be wrong about that.

The TA02T is a hybrid that uses a mix of TA01 and TA02 parts to give a different wheelbase.  That's all there is, really - it isn't wider.

There's a fantastic comparison here:

@Mad Ax  beat me to it …just.  TA02T has TA01 suspension arms and hubs.  The rear lower arms are flipped compared to the longer chassis TA01.  So it’s a flipped arm TA01 on a TA02 chassis.   Confused yet 🤣

@Mouc-RC supplied a nice excel file on the subject of TA-02 variations (what part to which chassis) in this thread, it's been quite useful:

It's not so hard, but you have to read carefully, and maybe use anti-headache pills of your choice afterwards :)

You have a lot of TA-02 variants. Let's name them TA-02xy (because you have the S, the T, the W & the SW). And the "normal" one, the TA-02.
If I got it correctly:

For the front end:
- all TA02-xy models have "TA02" susp. arms except TA02-T, which has the TA01 ones.
- all TA02-xy have the same knuckles except TA02-W and TA02-T, which have those of the TA01 (Or: TA02-xy = small knuckles of the TA02 except "W" and "T", which have the large knuckles of the TA01 - the wheel axles follow the same rule).

For the rear end:
- only TA02 and TA02-W share "TA02" susp. arms.
- the TA02-S, TA02-SW and TA02-T share the same susp. arms as the TA01. And to shorten the wheelbase of the "S" and "SW" only, the susp. arms are flipped, lengthwise.
- all TA02-xy have the same hubs (those of the TA01)

I believe this is the truth, but I may be wrong or partially wrong and happy to be corrected :)
