Guys, girls - I am in trouble. Big trouble. 😑

I always remembered the Clod Buster as the cool car from the older, cooler neighborhood boy across the street. I was around six years old, he was around 12 years old. He had the Clod, I had the Grasshopper II (no regrets). Good times!

I was never the lucky guy who owned a Clod. In fact and to be honest: I always saw it as a relict from the past – with all honesty, of course, it's a legend – but I never wanted one – Pogo sticks, plastic everywhere, the fancy, but troublesome steering. No, not for me…

After I found my love for the Monster Beetle (for the Black Edition, I have to admit), I stumbled across the Clod Buster Black Edition.

Wow…

Something happened…

I want one…

Yes, my inner child wants a Clod! 😳

Great. My wallet is in big trouble, after Sand Scorcher (okay, this was gifted, but it needs additional parts and electronics), the Blitzer Beetle, the Monster Beetle and a TT-01E – all within three weeks.

I watched a few a lot YouTube videos and must admit that it’s cool. I counted my Tamiyas and noticed that I have already a collection anyway –nine Tamiyas (some NIB, some Shelf Queens, but they all should be runners some day) should qualify as collection, right? Now I ask myself (and feel free to answer this question for me): Is a collection complete without a Clod? 🤔

Well, to keep things short(er): I am willing to purchase one and I know myself long enough that I will get one some day, wenn the right offer occurs – but in all honesty, I really can stand a few things.

  • I will add bearings as I add them to all cars, no matter what. No Brainer,  Check.
  • I will try out the original steering, but add a capable servo (35 kg?) with metal gears and play around with the servo savers and steering horns, as I found some ideas here. My first attempt was to print some servo mounts for the axles, but is in still a Clod Buster then? 🤔
  • The Pogo sticks. Yes, they are a big part of the Clods legacy, but really, I just can't stand them. I want to add (black) CVAs, but as far as I seen, Tamiya has nothing available for this chassis? In other threads, people recommend 100 mm shocks from Yeah Racing – but maybe there are more, maybe cheaper alternatives?
  • I may add more questions later, but these are the elemental things I have to find solutions for before I even will purchase a kit… just to have a plan in mind.

A lot of text, I may come to an end now. 😳 Thanks for reading, thanks for your patience. I also want to apologize for „just another“ Clod thread – but I would be very happy to extend this thread to a build journey some day and share my experiences.

Best regards!

— Marcel

Do it, it's beautiful! Also, don't search for any more Black Editions, or you'll end up with over 12 different ones like I'm up to currently

Short: buy a Black Edition.

Medium: sell the cars you don't use, then buy a Black Edition.

Long: you could have an even cooler Tamiya Monster Truck, like a Juggernaut or a BullHead. But Tamiya don't produce them anymore. So... Buy a Black Edition.

My personal case: I wait for the BullHead re-release.

@GToddC5 12 Black Editions? May I ask which ones? I didn't even know there are so many available… :o

@Mouc-RC I heard a lot of good things about the Juggernaut II – sadly, not available anymore…

Even if both of you now don't like me anymore, but I am not a huge fan of the BullHead… 😏 So, for me they re-released the right model on that chassis… ;) Would have had a hard time deciding between Black Edition and Grey Edition, but the latter is/was not available in Europe, so one problem less… 😂

😳

An impressive list! Definitely a collection! I totally overlooked the Black Edition Grasshopper II which is a shame, as the original GH II was my first RC car. 😮

I noticed that AliExpress has a sale right now – there is nobody here by chance who can recommend a nice set of CVAs for the Clod, isn’t it? 😉

Thanks to both of you for sharing some links! :) Great to see the available options and I will also keep an eye open for another options.

Yes, let's go – if I find a Clod Buster Black Edition <= 250 € here in Germany/Europe, I am temping to purchase it right away. Should be a very good price, as far as I see (maybe some Germany fellow can confirm or disagree). Will keep an eye open, too… ;)

@wolfdogstinkus: CRAZY stuff! 😳😁

Ah, that's the Cloudbuster though, a rare model indeed.

Some say it's bigger than a Clodbuster which we know is impossible and that it doesn't bust Clods, but clouds.

All we know is that it's called the Cloudbuster.  😂

235 euros

My autocorrect had a hard time believing I wanted to write Cloudbuster, not Clodbuster. 😂

That's ex VAT, shipping abroad, I would guess - the german price is 279,99 euros.

£197. +£15? Shipping. To U.K.

Might just make it under £250?. But then model sport prices are usually pretty close when you factor in VAT+ *handling charge and postage.

*Couriers cut.

Edit to add

I see we're playing

with German euros anyway not U.K ones.

Both modelbeau(spelling?) and Tamico have fantastic reputations on here.

Thanks a lot guys for finding the best price for me! 😁

Of course, it does not depend on 10 € more or less – Modellbau Bochum has a good price (259,- € incl. VAT and shipping). It's more a physiological thing… I don't need the kit right now, I have three kits NiB (four including the Grasshopper) and enough to do for the  next weeks. But a very good price compared with the fact that this is a limited release (kind of) would trick my brain: „Get in know, just to have it… this is an opportunity!“

And yes, I am a weirdo! 😂

Even if I remove the shrink wrap to admire the beautiful content of the box every day and remember my childhood? 😂

Not… yet. 😉

Not all kits are shrink wrapped.

I think it's done by the main distributor and not Tamiya?

Didn’t know that. That’s cool so I must not have a kind of regret if I rip open all my boxes. 😅

Wait for confirmation before you do anything you may later regret but I believe that is the case.

Edit to add,

Or maybe there just isn't a shrink wrap machine big enough to wrap a Clodbuster?. 😂 I'm sure it's an export thing of some kind.

… all is good, as I not plan to sell any of my other models right now and I don't see them as an investment. ;)  If I really need to get rid of one or more cars, they are still unbuild and I think this should be enough to get a fair price.

I originally wanted to keep them closed until I build them to avoid damages to the lid, but I was too curious to check out the included speed controllers, as I needed one for a build. So I now have NiB models, but with only the rear shrink wrap removed; this should be the best of both worlds. ;)

If the Mrs kicks you out for having too many toys, at least the Clodbuster box is big enough to live in.

Oh, you haven't bought it yet?,

You should definitely buy it so you have somewhere to live when you get kicked out for having too many toys.

My logic isn't really working here is it??.
