I have an idea to add to all of this.... last year i remember that a peg or 2 went missing and we couldn't find which Violator had it! even after the announcement was put over the Tanoy. There was tempers rising and i remember wanting to shoot whoever it was that was ruining it for others. In theory you should only have your Tx switched on if you have the peg and are about to race or in a race. However there is occasions where you do have the peg for a minute so you can set up or test your car and in that short time your peg is required by another person. This person cant see you on the rostrum or in the queue for the next race so assumes that some careless person has wondered off with it. in the mean time His race is about to start and all that is missing is a PEG ! night mare. so my point to all this is that i think we all should have our own named peg with our ''Tamiya club' name and mobile phone number on it. When you take a peg from the board, you replace it with your own peg! The rule is guard your own peg with your life Use it with out fail or GO HOME! this way we can stop problems like last year and allows a little extra time with the proper peg on your Transmitter if you desperatly need to set a car up! Now if we all followed this then we would be sorted. If you all email me with your names and numbers i will happily provide and decorate the pegs. What do you all think?

Pardon my extreme ignorance, but what sort of pegs are we talking about?

Often heard of this system, but never quite understood it/

I often wondered what it was, but it's wonderfully simple. There's a big board (normally made of plywood) and it has umpty-nine wooden dowels set into it, one for each allowed frequency (normally split into 27meg and 40meg). The frequencies are written under each dowel. Each of the dowels has a clothes peg on it, with the same frequency number written on it. When you want to race/fly, you simply check that a peg is available with your chosen frequency, take it off the board and attach it to your transmitter. Once you are finished, you put your peg back.

So in a nutshell it's a way of ensuring that no one else uses your frequency whilst you are driving, so long as everyone follows the rules. It's a simple idea, but works a treat.

Blazerfrazer, I think your idea is interesting, but it does rely on people putting their own peg on the board, and also could make it more difficult to see at a glance which freqs were available. Also, I can see that some people might not want to put information like their mobile number on public view.

What about a slight variation on the idea, where the pegs had just the tc member number and were all coloured, say flourescent yellow? That's more anonymous, and would mean that if the announcer has a list of TC members, he can call out "jozza, please return the peg for 27 meg blue to the board" (not that I will be guilty of peg hoarding of course!) and the taken frequencies would be instantly visible.

Still might make it complex to those not used to the pegboard system though, but would be easy to bulk paint some pegs and then scribble the tc number on with a Sharpie marker on the day, try it and see how it goes. Whaddya think?

Blazerfrazer, good idea. It's already used at IC Nationals where everyone just writes their name on a peg. The Snett pegs are easily seen and if a simple wooden peg was put in place of our normal one when being used it would be obvious which were away from the board. All it requires is a load of wooden pegs and a Biro.

I remember the "own peg" system being used at last years Snett meet.

Roops still got his...mine snapped after using it as an emergency hair clip.

It was a good idea.

I've still got my peg from last years Clumber meet!!

Oh and something else that i realised recently the meet at Snetterton is being called the Spring Drive? But as it's not spring till March 21st shouldn't it be called the 'Winter Drive'??

yeah I know i sound like a right pedantic ar**hole!!

sorry!![:D]

Sounds like we are all for the personal peg idea then, without moblie numbers though... I'm certainly for it, anything which helps avoid interference and arguments sounds good to me [^]

Name pegs are a good idea, but only if you can put a name to face, maybe put car reg on it as well, most people's toys are around their cars. just a thought.

This is the current list as of 26th Feb. Remember, we're still using the peg-board - this list is just for convenience so you can be as pre-prepared as possible. Might save a few of us trying to change delicate Xtals on Sunday morning with freezing hands and while still hung over / half-cut...! [B)]
