Pretty much as the title says - if you have a personal livery that you like to use for multiple cars, let's see what it looks like!

I used to go for a metallic green body with a white Y-shaped stripe when I raced with my father and brother, who had the same layout but in metallic blue and metallic purple respectively.

Our Yorkshire Tea racing teapots are of course red:

I really liked the gunmetal and yellow livery of the Mercedes AMG GT3, so decided to apply it to my two most recent F1 shells too:

And now my Super Avante has joined the club:

I seem to have adopted this as my personal livery. What is yours?

I am still all over the place painting-wise, and I have nothing to show for it. :D

But I like the idea - and I really like the Teapots - what's the story behind these, really?

Splendid Teapot Racing is a popular activity within the Steampunk community, initially offered at a festival in New Zealand as an activity that can be enjoyed by people with or without mobility difficulties. It has since spread across the world, and there is now hardly a Steampunk or Steampunk-adjacent event that doesn't offer it on their programme. The concept is a simple one - drive a RC vehicle either carrying or resembling a teapot around an obstacle course against the clock, with the fastest time winning the day. Many events also feature a concours contest, as well as a prize for the most entertaining attempt at the course.

It is not really a personnal livery, but when I came back  in the hobby some years ago, I wanted to create the replica of a famous rally car that won many rallies here in Belgium in the 1980's. Here is the real one:

So when I got a 1/8th buggy that needed another body, I painted it with the same livery as I had some decals left... So here they are, side by side :)

I'm on my 3rd 'group' livery for my on-road cars. Started with orange/blue, then green and black and now blue and... well, more colours.

A part from the few green and black liveries, they usually feature blue and neon or fluorescent colours.

Found on a race car though, I struggled to see the car on the track (my peepers aren't quite what they where...), so went with white with stick on flames -

(The yellow on the roof of the truck, is highlighting Lee Martin's signature, as its the truck I won in a raffle ,he donated the prize 😁

New race bodies, gone with white with yellow, a bit unsuccessfully.. 😬🤦‍♂️🤣

I started down this path,  but it seems a bit extravagant given i don't even drink the stuff...

The place I'm actually now headed down is per the following, but I only have one painted. I'm planning on making the colours common, but different paint styles (TRF201, Agama N110 will get pin stripes; Kyosho TOMS will get something nearer box art). Needs some TRF decals,  I know.

Yep. It's a Leadfinger Racing Retro-mod B6.3 shell.

Modern doesn't have to mean cab forward.

Not a personal livery by a long shot but I do like the way cars with the same paint scheme look together. This is from when my wife brought me a couple of TT-02s and I decided to try and make them look like a pair.

The Ford GT shel has subsequently been raced and doesn’t look quite so pretty anymore.

Wow some of you fellers are super talented. The closet thing I ever came to a personal livery was about 6-7 bodies with a similar theme and the same colors back during my 2WD buggy days. Man I thought I was high cotton lol.

Asked my 6 year old what he wanted in his lunchbox.

He said "smash, bang, boom, and batman,  so I "helped" him do the big lunchbox and when I bought him the little one, I couldn't resist recreating it.

I've been doing some variation of this livery since last year. Didn't realize at first that it's the retro Toyota color scheme, but that just means that my rally and GT Pro Spec cars will just have to be Toyotas from now on (once I inevitably destroy the Ford GT MkII body).

I wonder if it's still valid if the personal livery is only applied to one single car? 😅

I went for this custom paintjob for my Manta Ray back in 2019. I was so happy with it that I thought I'd carry it over to other builds, but when the time came to paint the next shell I ended up experimenting with something else instead.

Similar thing applies to this Hornet shell, which also represents my first attempt at a personal color scheme. I liked how it turned out and intended to apply it to other shells, though it has not happened yet.

The only color scheme so far that is recurrent amongst my fleet is no idea of mine: I just replicated what happens to be my all-time favourite racing livery in motorsport history.

I have two so far, but it doesn't get old in my eyes. If anything, it only gets better with age! I can definitely see myself doing a few more JPS cars in the future.

I've been meaning to reply to this for an age, but in typical Mad Ax style it's a story that goes on so long, it's taken me several months to write it!

I've actually gone back through the archives on this one, so bear with me as there's a few posts to get through...

Back in the day, my race colours were supposed to be yellow with black stripes.  In the late 90s / early 00s I was writing a sci-fi novel, in which the main character owned an El Camino painted yellow, with a black U-shape on teh hood and black stripes continuing up over the roof and down the tailgate.  I'd actually planned to paint my 1:1 Mini Clubman Estate that livery in the early 00s, before I found out how expensive it was going to be to do a full colour change.

So when I got into RC, that was naturally the colours I'd use.  In fact I tried to build a replica of that El Camino, but it never looked right.  Tamiya yellow is sickly and pale, and I was never happy with it.  I don't think I have any photos of the original TT01 version, but later I mounted it on a Blackfoot Extreme.

DSC_0008.jpeg

Years later, I'd have another go - I can't remember why I originally painted this body, but it ended up on my E-maxx for a while.

IMG_20180908_101058.jpg

I never actually made a race body in yellow-and-black, until 2024, when I decided to go an all-new race body for the final round of the Iconic Cup at Halifax.  This is Tamiya Camel Yellow, which is so much nicer than the plain yellow, although people tend to call it orange (it does look more orange in low light, as it is here)

sm_P8140033.jpeg

It's actually not fully yellow and black either - although there are black details around the bumper and grilles, the dark parts are actually gunmetal.  Tamiya Camel Yellow and Tamiya Gunmetal are a fantastic combination, and I had previously used those on other projects, and will probably do more in this scheme in the future.
