I gotta say, I'm having way more fun building things from old leftovers recently than I ever did just assembling kits. My latest creation:

What is it? Well...

  • One of those eBay aluminum chassis for a Lunchbox, got it for dirt-cheap locally
  • Stock Lunchbox lower chassis section and front suspension
  • 3D-printed long-wheelbase rear axle carriers, bought from another eBay vendor
  • Stock Lunchbox gearbox built from leftover parts
  • Cheap (but surprisingly nice) aluminum shocks
  • Old Pro-Line Blackfoot wheels with Traxxas Stampede tires
  • Nikko/Radio Shack monster truck body, because the wheelbase was perfect
  • Old B&R Sportsman 17 turn modified motor

Electronics are a Futaba S148 servo and a Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 ESC. With a 2S lipo pack, it books:

I really like how this photo turned out:

1060 ESCs are waterproof, right?

It still needs a little fine-tuning; the rear springs are too stiff, and I might try to convert it to an A-arm/upper-link front end. And the B&R motor might be a little too much for it, but then again, maybe "a little too much" is just right for something like this. And I think I'd better see if I have another Blackfoot/Lunchbox bumper lying around somewhere, just to be safe...

I totally agree! Builds with no instructions are the most fun. Its amazing what you can come up with just with whats lying around, that things awesome!

      Hi Jon,
In the linked image, I've simply moved the bar forward until it is centered directly over the rear shock tower (approx. 10.72mm) and kept the same height.  Is this what you had in mind?
