Why does the TT-02 only come with one urethane bumper?

Is it optional to use it on the rear?

You can use one on the rear if you want to. Some people don't use any bumpers at all for weight saving or short body. It does come with the fittings to install one.

I had installed a rear bumper on my 01 way back until I learnt not to reverse into walls.

I did not install it on my 02 as it will catch on the short hatchback body I am using.

Because Tamiya sells spares and hop ups? 😅 seriously though, I asked myself the same question when building my TT02.

I ended up building one out of hard blue stereophoam, using the kit one as a template. Once painted black it looked fine and it's been working alright so far.

Why would you want a rear bumper?

I started using one on my TT01 due to multiple instances of body tuck after being rear-ended by competitors in races.

Normally my rally TT's get a rear bumper to make the body rattle less when running on gravel. A snug fit both front and rear keeps the body rattle-free. I've seen some people on Youtube go as far as fitting side bumpers to eliminate every last bit of body wobble.

For asphalt cars, I only fit the front bumper since I mostly hotlap alone. However, as @Starky_UK points out, I've been saved from damage on a few nasty rear-end crashes by using a rear bumper when running with other people.

A rear bumper can help to support certain body that has a long overhang. Also, helps to protect the chassis when I drift backwards into a wall.
